Wow this one was incredible. I am so happy I was able to read this. Now I know why so many people talk about this author. The maid's diary is so dark and twisty while also feeling unique (which is not easy). I loved that everything made sense in the end. I need more books by Miss White!!!!

This books makes you think about everything. What we do and don’t do in are daily lives. Who we just pass by and those we pay attention to. As you set out hating one you cheer for the other all your want is the truth and you think you know untill you don’t

The Maid’s Diary is an intricately crafted thriller that kept me on my toes as I tried to unravel all of the many twists. This is a story of vengeance, and redemption. “Perfection is deception. An illusion. It’s a carefully curated but false narrative.” This alluring view point is illustrated time and again throughout the plot. “ Our little game is a foot. Our private joke against the world of money and false narratives, because things are never what they seem. Mine is a game with purpose. But sometimes a game turns dangerous. Not everyone likes being tricked.” Intense, intriguing and unpredictable describe this twisty, dark and entertaining thriller. Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I couldn't get into the story. It was more of a me than the author for this reason alone. I liked Loreth's writing and will try another of her novels in the future.

Thank you Netgalley & Montlake for an eARC of The Maid's Diary by Loreth Anne White. I LOVED this book! I immediately went to the author's Goodreads page and added all of her books to my TBR.

The book follows Kit, a maid with a serious snooping problem. Her days of snooping come to a head when she learns a secret about a wealthy, pregnant couple. Would they kill to keep the secret?

The story follows Kit's story and her diary, while at the same time following homicide copy Mallory Van Alst and a violent scene she's been called to unravel. I loved the police procedural portion of this book and found myself really rooting for another book that has Mallory in it - Now I am invested in her work and home life!

Loved the twists, turns and the ending. Great book that I easily binged. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley, Loreth Anne White and Montlake for the free e-book I exchange for an honest review.

This is an easy, bingeable read and I loved being left wondering who actually was murdered right from the beginning. All the characters kind of sucked, but in the most fun way. I loved all the twists!

I had very high expectations, and while this was definitely a solid thriller, I didn’t love it as much as I had hoped.

Let’s start with the good - the core mystery was interesting, and although some twists were predictable, I didn’t know what was going on until the end.

Something that put me off from the start was the large amount of characters and POVs. There were around 5 or 6 POVs going on, and it took me a while to memorise everyone and figure out how they’re related to the case.

I also had some trouble with the writing style, especially when it came to dialogue. Everything was over-explained. For example, when two cops are talking to each other, they explain every single step of the process. I know it’s for the benefit of the reader, but it felt unnatural.

The characters were mostly terrible, and I couldn’t connect with any of them.

Overall, I enjoyed the plot, but the way the book was structured and written didn’t really work for me.

THE MAID’S DIARY by Loreth Anne White is a contemporary, adult, psychological thriller focusing on maid Kit Darling, former Olympic skier Jon Rittenberg and his wife Daisy, Vanessa and Haruto North, and Vancouver, BC homicide detective Mallory Van Alst.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from several back and forth time lines, and numerous third person perspectives, as well as first person diary entries by the maid, THE MAID’S DIARY follows the search for a possible killer, and a missing body. An elderly woman, with dementia and not much time to live, believes she has quite possibly witnessed a murder next door but when the police arrive the woman is clear headed and knows exactly what she saw. Vancouver PD Detective Mallory Van Alst, alone with her partner Benoit Salumu begin an investigation that reveals an enormous number of clues, lots of blood, intersecting pathways and trails, and several suspects all claiming to know nothing about a murder or a missing body. As Mallory and Benoit begin to ferret out the truth, secrets reveal a decades old crime that has come back to haunt them all.

THE MAID’S DIARY is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, secrets and lies, twists and turns, and an extreme case of ‘gas-lighting’ planned out for years. Loreth Anne White pulls the reader into a thrilling, intense, dramatic, shocking and intriguing story of retribution and revenge-karma as the ultimate target.

I haven’t read a thriller this fast in a long time! What a breath of fresh air to read a quality book. Did I guess all the twists? Absolutely. But I still enjoyed the reading experience. Will this book blow you away? No. Will this book be a quick and fun read that I would recommend? Absolutely!

I can't say enough great things about this book. I highly recommend. The different POV's and timelines made the story itself compelling. Just when I thought I had it all figured out...I totally did NOT. I love that!! Looking forward to more from this author

What a fantastic page turner full of twists and turns. Told from multiple charactrrs points of view crafted over multiple timelines. You are drawn to the maid desperately to find out the truth has the snooping discovery's caused something terrible. Whete is she?
Fast pasted full of heart. You felt and understood each character and then felt you knee the truth and then realised you were so very wrong
I liked the way the characters and situations were true to life and everything was explained.
Highly recommended. Thnk you net gallery and publisher for my arc

The mystery surrounding a "snooping" maid and a Glass House was too good to pass up. Unfortunately, this wasn't a fit for me. The first four chapters had four different narrators at four different points in time, which made it hard to invest in any of the storylines or to feel compelled to keep reading. It sounds like a lot of other reviewers really enjoyed this book, so I'm hopeful that I'll connect better with another of the author's stories.

Over the years, there has been plenty of hype for Loreth Anne White books, and while I have been interested in discovering what that hype was all about, The Maid's Diary is my first, and again, I seem to have started with the wrong one. I enjoyed this one; however, that overthinker prevented me from enjoying it as much as I wanted to.

My two cents

The Maid's Diary is an intriguing, suspenseful page-turner uniquely told to keep us guessing right up to that final reveal. The clues are layered in to figure out that reveal, and whether you or don't, it is a rewarding twist. What makes it intriguing is we know someone is murdered, but there is no body discovered. So we don't know who was murdered by who. We are then taken back in time before the murder as we learn the events leading up to the murder, eliminating who the murderer and victim could be. We also follow the clues in the present as homicide cop Mal solves the crime. Things do get convoluted as that final twist is revealed, and it is hard to buy into that could happen and feels over the top.

The motivation for the murder is a sensitive theme, and that is not handled so sensitively. It is not one I like to see as a plot device, but because I try to avoid anything that might tip anyone off, I will not say what those themes are. There are plenty of other reviews that do.

Overall The Maid's Diary is a thrilling, suspenseful, twisty plot that is expertly woven together with multiple storylines from unlikeable characters with a rewarding payoff in the end.

This book is a must! It’s filled with so many twists and turns right up until the very end. Homebound Beulah Brown spends her days spying on the neighborhood especially on her next door neighbor’s home of Vanessa and Haruto North. Beulah enjoys the small interactions of the North’s maid, Kit Darling as Kit will look up at Beulah’s window and wave. One night Beulah is woken by a woman’s scream and witnesses two people covered up by rain coats dragging a heavy rolled up rug out of the North’s home and thrown into a dark colored car, and why is the maid’s car still parked in the driveway at night, and who are the people driving both cars away? This book is told from two time lines. Kit Darling ( Katerina Popovich) cleans clients homes. She snoops in their personal belongings while cleaning and even imaginary interjects herself into their lives. Kit also begins to keep a “therapeutic dairy” after taking on new clients, Daisy and Jon Rittenberg. Kit realizes who Jon Rittenberg is after seeing a picture of him winning the Olympic Downhill Ski competition. Jon has a past that once know can never be erased. Kit sets out a plan the couple never sees coming and neither will the readers.
