I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, as it kept me on my toes, intrigued to know more, excited to figure out the mystery!
Most of the characters were not extremely likable to me honestly, but I do think that was a necessity to getting the point done with this book.
I know I'm being a little vague, but I did went into this book blind, because I was more intrigued by the premise than anything, and I think if I hadn't known the promise and the beginning I would have enjoyed it a lot more! So if you're picking it up based on my recommendation, don't look up the premise, go into it blind, and have a good time!
I was not a big fan of the ending, it came a lot shorter than I expected, but the build up on the suspense and intensity kept me on it, in a good way!
I recommend!
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Minka Kent for letting me read (Gone Again) in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Gone Again by Minka Kent. The different points of view and alternate timelines were interesting. The book has a great pace; I was never bored by the characters and story. Celia is a likable character. I felt myself cheering for her the entire novel. Finally, I like the cover. Thanks for the advance review copy. I'd read another Minka Kent novel due to the writing style.
I love Minka Kent books. The unmissing is one of my favorite thrillers. This book was good and I enjoyed the relationship between Cecelia and Genevieve. Maybe I have been reading too many thrillers lately but I guessed all the twists which always bums me out. I look forward to her next book.
Minka Kent has done it again. I enjoyed Gone Again just as much as I’ve enjoyed all of this authors other books which is a whole lot. Fast paced, unique, and unputdownable, Gone Again is a must read.
This was a great read. It deals with a woman who goes missing after receiving a mysterious note on her 40th birthday stating "you don't deserve any of this"
The story is written from the point of view of two sisters Celia and Genevieve and alternates between past and present and shows the girls dysfunctional childhood and the affect this has on them.
The plot cleverly weaves together threads from past and present and comes to a satisfying ending that I did not see coming. This isn't high action but a very gripping suspense novel that I did not want to put down. The book makes you think and will stay with me long after it's completion.
Highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
I have read a number of books by this author and have enjoyed them. This one was just ok for me, a woman disappears, and her sister and her husband try to find her, it alternates with present day story and her religious repressive upbringing. It seemed a little over simplified to me. people were all good or all bad. Not terrible but not her best
This was a real edgenof your seat thriller. I loved every second of it. A well written word a really relatable protagonist. Highly recommended xx
Minka Kent never disappoints!
This book is no different!
I loved the family dynamics between Celia, Genevieve, and Celeste.
The timeline and character perspectives changing make this a fast paced and great read!
I couldn’t put this book down and finished it in one day!
Celia, Genevieve, and Celeste are raised in a religious cult. Unsurprisingly, this means suffering for all the children involved. Harsh punishments for breaking nonsense rules (like wearing nail polish) and loads of hypocrisy. So how do these children fare as adults? This story is toldwith a dual timeline, in three character viewpoints. I really enjoyed and was engrossed in the early setting and feel that the switch back to “present day” really took away from the story. With twenty-five years between the timelines, it seems too big of a jump and too much is lost to keep it connected the way it was intended. That being said, the plot was top notch with a twist I was not expecting. Thank you to the publisher, Thomas Mercer, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book ahead of publication date in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a great book! I love everything by this author and this book was no different! I couldn't put this down and was up all night waiting to see how it ended!
Gone Again by Minka Kent had so much potential, but it left me desperately wanting more. Celia, Genevieve and Celeste are three sisters, raised in a conservative Christian community. On her 40th birthday, Celia has long since fled the religion, and is beginning to mend her relationship with Genevieve. Only Celeste, 14 years younger than Celia, remains with her father in the community. On Celia's 40th birthday, she receives an unsettling note that she takes off to investigate. But when she doesn't return, Genevieve decides to open her own investigation into her appearance, facing the realities of their childhood past.
I really don't know what to say about this storyline other than there are so many gaping holes and missed opportunities. Just when I thought the plot was heading in an interesting direction (Christian reform camp, religious cult, missing person, creepy father, etc.) Kent seemed to abandon that idea and switch gears. I have loved some of this author's other works, but with Gone Again, I wish she would've picked a direction and stuck with it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest feedback.

This oddly intriguing story is a somewhat enjoyable, quick read centering around three sisters and their dysfunctional, strict religious upbringing that greatly impacts their lives in very different ways. The backstory offers up a few interesting elements, but ultimately there are no real surprises and felt a bit anticlimactic. While I loved the premise of “Gone Again,” unfortunately, it did fall short of my high expectations.
Gone again definitely grabbed me right away. I kept waiting for Celia to reappear to find out what really happened. I liked the dual timeline as you really learn a lot about the family and from the perspective of both sisters. I wasn't a fan of the ending. I felt that it ended rather abruptly. All in all a good book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
And here it comes ….
I have been waiting a LONG time to review this book and keeping this secret has nearly killed me. I’m not sure how I was even able to keep my lips sealed and contain excitement on one of my favorite books of the year .
Gone Again
This book is what nightmares are made of . How does this sassy little lady come up with these dark, dark thoughts inside her head? All I know is that after concluding this masterpiece I was straight up scared .
I’m talking, sleep with the lights on, check every window and sleep with one eye open kind of scared. To say this book is twisted is an understatement .
We all know how much I adore Minka Kent but I promise you my review is in true fact and not biased, this will always be one of my most favored books and one I will never stop thinking about .
Yes, my little blood suckers… this one is haunting to say the least.
Out March 27, 2023, this is not one you want to miss! .
My Review ✨
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas &Mercer and Minka Kent for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fast paced thriller with multiple POVs and multiple time lines that was put together very well.
It read like a popcorn thriller because I devoured it in one sitting, yet it was much deeper than that.
The only reason why I rated it 4 and not 5 was due to the fact that the ending wrapped up a tad too easy. The plot line was good and the reason behind what happened was good, but the ending felt very rushed.
I very much enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading her backlist now.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love this author. This was a quick, entertaining thriller about a woman that goes missing. As her family looks for her, they begin to untangle the web. This is not the first time she has gone missing…
A 40th birthday party ends with a cryptic message. You don't deserve any of this, it read. In yhe wee hours of the morning, Celia disappears. As we read through the book Celia's childhood secrets come to light. Good book 3 out of 5 ⭐️
"Everyone has secrets. Some stay buried. Some are unearthed when you least expect."
For me, the mark of a good psychological thriller is one in which the reader can't anticipate the twist and one that cleanly wraps up all of the reader's questions. "Gone Again" accomplished one of the two of these things, which is why I'm rating it 4 stars instead of 5. When I finished the last page, I still had lingering questions about what had happened to one of the main characters; I'm not a reader who can live in uncertainty!
Celia Guest turned 40 and her husband threw her a fantastic birthday party. All of her friends were in attendance and gave her beautiful gifts. Among the gifts was a card --unsigned-- that left Celia feeling unsettled. She took a drive and then disappeared, leaving her husband and sister to try to put together the pieces to locate her.
This isn't the first time Celia has disappeared. The product of a super-religious, but also loveless and abusive, household, she tried to leave as a teen but failed. She found success a few years later and never looked back, leaving behind two younger sisters, one of whom felt a huge loss, guilt, and some resentment.
Kent does an incredible job with both dual point of view and flashbacks in this novel. The chapters are narrated by either present or past Celia or present or past sister Genevieve. Doing this creates fantastic dramatic irony; the reader knows the details of Celia's disappearance, which makes watching Genevieve try to get to the bottom of it both sad and frustrating. The sisters' relationship is so realistically layered and Kent does a great job of building a lifetime of history between the two. I wasn't able to correctly guess the secret that Celia has kept buried. I was surprised by its reveal and impressed by what a huge role it played in developing the plot of the novel.
Fans of thrillers can't go wrong with "Gone Again"!
Loved this book! Have been really into thriller/drama as of late and this book hit the spot! Highly recommend.
I love Minka Kent’s books and I wanted to love this one too. While it is fast paced and kept my attention, I just didn’t love it. Once a specific character was introduced in the book, I guessed where the story was going. The sisters had moments where they were likeable but overall they just fell short for me and I didn’t connect to any of them.
