The book you didn't know you needed. I read Sorcery of thorns recently so as soon as I finished it, I started Mysteries of thorn manor. God, this book completely melted my soul. I loved it so much, especially seeing how much the book delves into Silas and Elisabeth's relationship.
With Sorcery of Thorns I couldn't stop laughing and with this novel the same thing happened to me. It's sweet, it's warm, it's funny and it's amazing. The companion novella that a book as wonderful as Sorcery of Thorns needed.
Margaret Rogerson is becoming one of my favorite authors.
I only vaguely remembered the plot of the novel that Mysteries of Thorn Manor is related to, so it took a minute to get into the story and remember who these character were and what happened to them. That being said, once I got into it, it was an enjoyable snapshot of what happens to the characters after Sorcery of Thorns.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
Sorcery of Thorns was one of my favourite reads of 2020. Being back in the world with my favourite characters in this cosy and sweet follow-up made me so happy. The hijinks and the sweet romance between Nathaniel and Elisabeth were so nicely written. I enjoyed myself completely while reading this book and the epilogue makes me hope for Silas's story in the future.
‘Mysteries of Thorn Manor’ was an absolutely adorable, fun, heartfelt, cozy, fully magical slice-of-life glimpse into life at Thorn Manor. I was so happy to be back in this amazing world that Rogerson created with Silas, Elizabeth, and Nathaniel. These three are just the best found family, and I love how much Nathaniel and Elizabeth love Silas - and how much he in turn loves them. That bond is beautiful and makes me all sorts of emotional. The return of the enchanted, sentient tomes made this even better; I LOVE them and the fact that they each have their own personalities. I could read stories set in the ‘Sorcery of Thorns’ universe forever and never tire of it, honestly. This novella was a total delight, and I loved it. Highly recommend!
So freaking good!!!’ I loved sorcery of thorns so much and was always itching for more from this world and I am so freaking happy I got it!! I’m selfish and wish for more more more! Highly recommend!
Book Summary:
Elisabeth Scrivener has truly come into her own in recent months. She and Nathaniel Thorn have formed a bit of a schedule now that they're officially living together. Yet the house seems to have some opinions on their current situation.
Opinions that are speaking very loudly – through the wards. Trapped in their home, Nathaniel and Elisabeth must find a way to calm the wards, and they must do so quickly. Here's hoping Silas has an idea or two.
My Review:
This is the novella for anyone who felt Sorcery of Thorns needed a bit more of a solid conclusion (read: happily ever after, of sorts). I had been content with how things left off, though honestly – I'll never say no to more. As such, I was blown away by how much I enjoyed this book! It was the ending I didn't know I needed.
There are strong bittersweet vibes to this story, but it's perfect. Silas' arc was everything, and the romantic elements in the main plot were super cute. In other words, it's our favorite characters returning to the pages for one last adventure.
I loved the inclusion of the "three impossible tasks" challenge/trope. That was a pleasant surprise, but it absolutely tickled me! It almost makes me wish we could get more from this world or its characters.

Sadly this did not live up to the hype. I loved Sorcery of Thorns so much and couldn't wait to be back in the world This novella was short, but it took me almost a week to read. I just wasn't into the story or how it was written.
This is a really fun novella that takes place after Sorcery of Thorns. You don't need to read The first one, but I highly recommend.
It was fun being back in the world of Sorcery of Thorns. This book was almost a tease. This was a lighthearted and quick read that fans of the original SoT will enjoy. Cutesy moments and humor will keep you entertained. I love Nathaniel, Elisabeth, and Silas all so much and really want an entire novel of them again. The epilogue has me hoping for something more int he future!
I loved this book so much. I loved reading more about the characters and I could not get enough of Silas. It was really well written that I could not put down.
I love Margaret Rogerson. I think she’s a fantastic fantasy writer and I really enjoyed both An Enchantment of Ravens and Sorcery of Thorns. I shared this book on TikTok and insta as part of a book tour so I did not rate it. I think if you enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns and the characters and are looking for a fluffy, low stakes, cozy fantasy, elongated epilogue than you should read this. I don’t think it added much to the plot or was particularly necessary but it was cute!
This was adorable. I recently listened to Sorcery of Thorns and loved it so I was so excited to get a chance to participate in this tour.
As Elisabeth and Nathanial grow closer strange things start happening all around them. It takes the help of Silas and the secrets of the Manor to reveal what is causing all the ruckus. In this novella we get to learn more about Nathanial’s upbringing and the relationship he had with his family before their death. The house starts awakening as the story develops and we learn that it’s not just hiding secrets but actual rooms. It was fun to see Elisabeth rediscover her relationship with the grimoires as well and the connection she has to them and the house was an intricate part to the story.
This picks up just after Sorcery of Thorns ended and it was fun to see more of Elisabeth and Nathanial as they adjust to their new life together. Silas is probably my favorite character and I loved him in this one. He’s such a snarky character and the tone of the entire book is just so light and fun.
If you enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns and are looking for a little more than I definitely recommend this novella!
I LOVED A Sorcery of Thorns so much so I was excited for this opportunity to review Mysteries of Thorn Manor. This book included such a sweet plot about Elisabeth and Nathaniel. It was definitely a warm and cozy read with all of the best bits of each character’s personalities written in to it. I particularly missed Nathaniel’s sense of humor. I enjoyed myself completely while reading this book and I think it’s the perfect written piece of these characters I missed so much
Generally I only find these between novel stories worth reading if I greatly enjoy the world building, as they tend to be short on plot and action.
The world Rogerson built for Sorcery of Thorns is certainly one worth spending more time in though, and I loved this little gem of a novella that feels a bit like a day in the life account of the characters and of Thorn Manor.
This has a lot of Beauty and the Beast vibes but with a unique spin on the story, and I love all the little details of the house, the books, and how they interact with the human (and non-human) inhabitants.
I don’t think, based on the end of the first novel, that this is slated to be a true series, but I wish it were. I adore spending time in this world and loved this little peek into daily life at the incredible place the characters call home.
I have been impatiently waiting for a sequel to Sorcery of Thorns and totally squealed when I got my hands on this copy haha. This novella is a different size than Sorcery of Thorns but it is so cute! In terms of the story, this was absolute perfection - it had great banter, romance (Nathaniel Thorn style lol!), found family and... SILLLAAAASSS. It was fun and fluffy and just what I needed. I actually could not stop smiling while I was reading and if I'm honest, I kinda wish they didn't resolve the issue with the wards so I could stay stuck in the manor with them forever haha. The magical house also gave me a fair few chuckles with its sassiness.
A huge thanks to Turn the Page Tours and Simon Kids for a copy for review. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this edition to the Sorcery of Thorns world! This felt like sitting down with old friends which I loved. I missed this world and these characters! Overall, a must read.
The perfect novella to follow Sorcery of Thorns 🥹 I loved that the romance I was looking for in the first book, I found here. There was also a bit of world-building still too, which was nice.
Oh and yes, I freaking love Silas 😭

Though this book is incredibly short, it is jam-packed with memorable moments, chillingly beautiful quotes, and so much magic, bookish and otherwise! It’s honestly the perfect little fantasy novella. I was able to read it very quickly, which I loved, and there was never a dull moment. It gave me a lot of Christmas vibes, so it may be a favorite that I return to in the holiday season.
This was cute but I had a hard time staying engaged with the story. I love YA but it read a little bit too young for me. I loved the crazy magical house and the grimoires just didn’t care much about the characters.
My original review was just, "Silas is a boss." I stand by that assessment. The rest of the story is pretty fun too.
