Following on from last year's The Christmas Swap, the May Ladies are gathering from around the world to spend this year's holiday together. The destination is Hawaii. While I have a little trouble keeping each character's backstory straight, who is from which country and where they live now, I was happy to spend some more time with this group. In real life, they'd all be way too into PDAs and lovey-dovey names with their partners, but for some escapism romance, it's a fun read. Definitely read The Christmas Swap first, as it gives you the entire backstory and was a stellar book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
Once again it is Christmas and the May Ladies are spending it together once again. This time however they are spending it Hawaii with all their boyfriends in tow and Jules and Will’s dad. They are staying at a friend of Archer’s place which is mansion and has lots of wonderful things to keep them occupied. They meet the wonderful housekeeper Leilani who they spend ages persuading to join them in the christmas festivities. The irritating Audrey also joins them who is the stepdaughter of the owner Sean Alessi who also joins them at the last minute. There is plenty of drama to keep everyone occupied and some surprises along the way.
I really enjoyed reading this book and always love to find sequels to previous books as I love finding out what happens next rather than always wondering. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was a nice story. I just struggled with all the characters having different chapters. You had to be on your toes. An easy read. Three friends who had met as a children , all separated were put together for a hot surprise Christmas by one of the partners. It was a nice Christmas book but did not blow my mind. Loved the Christmas lunch with all the different nations brought together.
I can't believe I'm going to be negative about one of my favourite authors - but sadly, I am.
Really not sure what this added to the first book's story. We ended the previous book with a HFN ending for all three of the girls with the expectation that it would actually be a HEA. what extra was actually gained from this second book puzzles me.
In this book, several new characters were added, and the already busy cast of characters became really top-heavy and I struggled to maintain interest or indeed, keep up wit them all. stories which might have been interesting (Nate and Sean anyone?) were under-developed.
The author writes so beautifully usually, that this is still an enjoyable book to read, but I found myself increasingly disenchanted with the three heroines, as each of them managed to reveal more and more unpleasant traits throughout the story.
It was great to revisit characters we've learned to care about, but I do hope there isn't going to be another book about them.
I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley in return for an honest review and that's what I've written. A good read, but not as good as the first one.
Lucy is all packed and ready for her second white Christmas, with her boyfriend in Colorado, Jules is planning a quiet break at her partner's winery away from the busy Melbourne flat share she calls home, while Chloe is delighted by the news of a surprise Parisian getaway. Unfortunately even the best laid plans can change which means once again the three besties are jet-setting across the globe, but this time their destination is the same!
When your hastily arranged holiday is at the home of a friendly billionaire life is definitely luxurious but even the infinity pool, private cinema, and idyllic location can't mask the problems which also arrive with them. From long distance relationships to intrusive media coverage the May Ladies have had a stressful last twelve months and need to regroup but maybe where you are isn't as important as who you're with and why.
This is the follow-up I didn't know I needed but am so glad was written! The Christmas Swap, which was released last year, was one of the few purely romance novels I read and enjoyed and now there's a second book about Chloe, Lucy, and Jules.
I did feel a couple of plot lines could have been delved into deeper but overall I was left feeling very satisfied with everything which happened and if there are no more travels with the May Ladies I will just about be ok with that! The dialogue was excellent and I loved the way the author used differing perspectives to see things from all sides without making it repetitive or boring.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This can be read as a stand-alone but will probably make more sense if read in order. Both books are easy to recommend.
This book has three main characters, quirky friends…love and romance…friends and family…travel…time together…surprises…the language could be left out…doesn’t fit the characters…a quick fun read. Curl up and get cozy…enjoy. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.
Lovely to catch up with the may ladies. This book was a great Christmas book set on a beautiful island in Hawaii. It was Christmassy, beautiful and each couples stories were gently interwoven. I loved it and the ending wasn’t a surprise but could have had a bit more about it on the story.
Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I had a really hard time getting into this book...it felt like I was missing an entire backstory. If there is a book before this one, the author doesn't do a good job of relating that information, so you'll want to read that story before this one. Three friends head to Hawaii for a Christmas getaway in this light, holiday escape read..
There are times when you just need to read the type of book where you know there will always be a happy ending. This is one of the books that will satisfy that need. The three friends, Chloe, Lucy and Jules are spread around the world, but all loved up. Friends since they were 13 they are still best friends, and trying to sort out where to spend Christmas. When Archers attempt to take Chloe to Paris falls through, he arranges a trip that will bring the three friends, and their partners, together for a magical holiday.
Pure escapism, this is such an easy read, with threads of stories going back to The Christmas Swap, where the three women met and fell for their partners, I read it in one sitting, had a smile on my face all the way through and loved it. A book for all times, not just for Christmas.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I always love a chance to revisit characters who made an impression the first time round, and knowing we were meeting the May Ladies again was a thrill in itself.
I love Sandy Barker's stories. Modern romances with a bit of heat but a lot of love and plenty of hiccups along the way!
This time our ladies are firmly ensconced in their relationships, but so busy the year has flown by with not much chance to be together.
The effects of an ash cloud result in the three of them being together again, for Christmas, on a beautiful tropical island with their plus ones by their side.
Lucy, Chloe and Jules have plenty to keep them occupied, as each is weaving their way through the maze of long-term relationships. Still, we also meet some great new characters, like Leilani, the housekeeper, or Mama to all, and the immature but intriguing Audrey.
And there is always a little drama to keep the action going!
The descriptions of the idyllic Hawaiian island where they spend Christmas make me want to jet off on holiday too!
I really enjoyed the story, and I'd be more than happy to hear a little more about how they get on in the future!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
