Nobody Puts Romcoms in The Corner was such an enjoyable read. I loved the 2 main characters and I liked the honesty around what they were feeling. It was very romantic and a little bit of a steamy read, I loved it!
I found this to be a fun & light read. At first I thought it was a bit too cheesy but soon found myself cheering for the main characters and wanting happiness for them both. If you love romcoms, there is no shortage of references to all the best classic love scenes on film.
I liked this one. It’s a solid story. I loved the romance and the dirty dancing theme the book had. I felt the characters were developed well and overall it was a good book.
Dirty Dancing is one of my absolute favourite movies, so course Thad to read this! The cover and title alone brings me joy.
When new roommates Sally and Harry film their reenactment of the memorable Baby & Johnny lift (I legitimately laughed out loud while reading this scene), they unexpectedly go viral, sparking an idea to continue bringing popular rom-com moments to life on social media.
This story was filled, and I mean filled, with nostalgic movie scenes! It was so, so fun.
With Harry being a love cynic and Sally searching for her soulmate, these opposing roommates brought so much fiery tension as they attempt to ignore their mutual attraction!
Harry was a big man with a down-to-earth personality, and I loved seeing him adorably confused by his growing feelings for Sally. It's a lot of push and pull between them, but their dialogue was incredibly addictive. There's a perfect amount of depth to their personalities, too.
All the warm fuzzies while reading this one! A book truly made for rom-com lovers!
I thought this was a really cute book! The premise of the book was great, especially as a lover of rom-coms! The banter between the two characters, Harry and Sally, is wonderful, and I love the cynic and hopeless romantic trope.
Overall I thought was a light, fun read! I thought the idea of replicating scenes from classic rom-com was really clever and enjoyed the nostalgia of some of the classic movies we all love! However, I did have a hard time getting into the story at first. It was cheesy at times and could have had more character development.
This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
A nice fun read about two house mates who start reenacting famous rom com scenes on TikTok. Harry is not into romance and doesn't believe in love, whilst Sally is just waiting for her one true love to come and ring her bells. In the meantime they discover each other.
“Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner” was such a cheesy, fun time! Honestly this book had almost everything I look for in a romance: humor, angst, drama. This cutesy grump-sunshine/romantic-cynic romance was just an all round good time filled with laughs and all of those warm fuzzy feelings. Then why the three star rating you ask? Honestly, as fun as it was, this book is in desperate need of a good round of solid editing. There are multiple instances of place holder or just outright incorrect names being used, grammar mistakes galore and just odd wording and phrase choices that took me out of the story multiple times. Additionally, it took me a long while to figure out exactly what the relationship between Harry and Isabelle was because it seemed like perhaps the author had originally written them as married and then changed them to only dating based on various scenarios. Good read but it needs a little work to make it better.
I received a copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner via NetGalley to read and review.
As most people can tell by the title Romcoms play a huge role in this book. Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner reminds me a little of The Rom-Com Agenda because of how much classic romcom movies play a part in the story. While The Rom-Com Agenda was about making someone more like a romcom hero Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is two people doing terrible renditions of popular romcom scenes.
I loved Harry’s dry humor and Sally’s ability to just go with it. The commentary between the two is a little cheesy at times (which is definitely the point) but a lot of fun to read.
3.75 stars
This was a sweet and fun romcom to bust the winter blues!!
I really, really, really liked the relationship between Harry and Sally along with Sally's friend group. All of the characters in her novel seemed pretty true to life and not two dimensional. While, of course, you have an idea of where things are going, it was still a delightful ride along with these two as they moved along through the book.
It was witty, charming and a fun read.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollinsUK for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
It's a light romance, quite cute. (though Sally's sister is difficult to read about)
It has all the nostalgia of old romcoms and all those scenes and nods to films you know you so well which I loved, and there's tension, theres romance, there's comedy. It's a really good balance between them all and I feel if you love old cheesy romcoms, this is a book for you!
It's very British and I love that, it adds to the feel of the story and makes it more realistic for me, I wish we had a tad more backstory to the characters though!
I feel Harry provides a good balance to this as he is a bit more cynical about romcoms and romance and it gives the much needed balance to what could easily be too much cheesiness
This was a delicious and delightful read. Perfect for women’s fiction and rom-com fans. There’s many laugh out loud moments in this one.
The love cynic and the romantic, forced together because they live together. This is the premise of Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner. What happens next can be described as a totally dreamy and yet totally blunt and honest love story... and I loved absolutely everything about it!
I loved Sally, the female protagonist: she suffered serious loss and yet she is sweet, joyful, and hopeful. She loves romcoms and she believes she'll get to live the fantasy herself, one day.
I loved Harry, the main male character: as soon as I got to meet him, I understood there was so much more about him than just the cynical attitude he displayed. He's a very well written character. He's got so many layers and I'm sure you'll want to peel them off and see what's beneath them just like it happened to me.
I loved the completely non-trivial way
in which Sally and Harry are so different and yet so perfect for each other. I loved the great chemistry between them (as a matter of fact, I kinda wished for a couple more spicy scenes)! What I loved the most, though, was the constant communication between them. I mean... I can't help but love a story in which there's no room for useless miscomunication! In this book, both the swoony moments and the sad parts are equally beautiful and meaningful. Plus, they're both essential! To me, this book is the perfect example of how romance, hope, disenchantment and cynism can (and must) coexist. It is the perfect example of how coping with s**t life throws at you is a little bit simpler with a little help from romcoms. It is the perfect example of how different love feels for everyone and it doesn't really matter how you find it or how long it will last... the only thing that matters is that it is the right kind of love.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What a fab dedication to all things romcoms! As an avid watcher, I loved all the references to my favourite films and enjoyed seeing them through a different view point. Fast paced, laugh out moments, coupled with some sauce and of course a HEA (sorry spoilers but of course it was going to happen!) I liked the supporting characters as well, especially the redemption of Kitty.
Really looking forward to reading more from the author.
This was honestly the sweetest book and I couldn’t put it down. While I haven’t read many romcoms to compare it to, it is an instant five stars. Highly recommend for lovers of romance, it’s definitely converted me.
I love Romcoms and this story was too cute. The couple starts out as roommates who decide to reenact romcom scenes for TikTok. They didn't expect to fall in love. It was a forced proximity slow burn. It took Harry the majority of the book to realize he was actually in love with Sally. I enjoyed the scenes the decided to act out. He was too easy on his ex. He should have thrown her stuff out while she was at work and changed the locks. That would have fixed her early, but she had to be around for conflict. All in all, this was a funny and spicy romcom all on its own.
I found both characters to be extremely likeable! It’s a rom com in the most perfect way, gives all the feels and you’ll love it. Funny, cliche but in a good way.
Confession time, I have never been a huge Rom-Com fan. I'm not saying I haven't seen many of them or that I didn't enjoy the ones I've seen. What it boils down to, I find them a bit cheesy. Why then, do I just love this book Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman? So many wonderful reasons. This book had me laughing out loud one moment and wishing I was Sally the next.
Sally is in need of a new flatmate to help make ends meet and Harry is in need of a room. Since Harry is a friend of a friend, is reliable and drama free Sally agrees to give him a chance. These two couldn't be more opposite from one another. Sally is a rom-com die hard and a hopeless romantic and Harry, well Harry is just Harry. What these two do have in common is dependability, loyalty and a strong sense of duty. From the start they are able to poke fun at one another as they continue on a never ending debate about love.
The real fun begins one night when Harry is poking fun at Sally as she is swooning over the lift scene from Dirty Dancing. After a challenge the two find themselves recreating the lift in their living room, cushions abound. As they view the video Sally has recorded for critique they can't help but laugh and on a whim Sally uploads it to TikTok. Next thing Harry knows he's agreed to recreate many more of these silly iconic scenes in an effort to raise a little extra money they both desperately need. This book is a fun trip down Rom-Com lane as the two recreate many infamous scenes.
I had so much fun reading this book I could not bare to put it down. Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is the type of book that has me reading 'just one more chapter" as the clock ticks by and morning fast approaches. This is not a cheesy book and the characters are not just full of fluff. This story does a wonderful job exploring all types of relationships from friends, to family to found family. Admittedly I am not the Hallmark Movie kinda gal, but I do love love and I also love a good laugh. I'm so happy I gave this book a read because Kathryn Freeman truly delivers both.
I am grateful to have received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher One More Chapter a division of Harper Collins Publishers. I am leaving my review here voluntarily.
This book was so adorable, and emulated everything a good romcom makes you feel. I loved every second!
Sally and Harry (yes you heard that right) are roommates who end up recreating iconic romcom moments on TikTok for a little extra cash.
The characters were so cute and charming, and it was so great to see how their relationship progressed throughout the story. I loved that the book wasn’t heavy- just light and fluffy and fun the whole time.
Also shoutout to the cover artist because it’s absolutely adorable and 100% why I requested the book.
