In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, there's something truly magical about a well-crafted romantic comedy. "Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner" by Kathryn Freeman is the perfect pick-me-up for fans of the genre, offering a delightful blend of humour, heart, and a generous sprinkle of pop culture references.
Sally and Harry, the central characters of this charming romcom, couldn't be more different. Sally is a quintessential romantic, while Harry is an unapologetic cynic. Their worlds collide when a drunken bet leads them to awkwardly (and hilariously) recreate the iconic lift from "Dirty Dancing." Little do they know that their clumsy re-enactment, captured on video and shared with the world, will thrust them into a world of romcom-inspired adventures.
As they embrace the accidental fame and embark on a journey of epic romcom re-enactments, Sally and Harry's chemistry becomes increasingly undeniable. What begins as a staged performance for their social media following soon evolves into something real, as they find themselves living out their own romcom.
Kathryn Freeman's writing is a delightful blend of wit, charm, and emotion. The banter between Sally and Harry is both entertaining and endearing, and readers will find themselves rooting for this unlikely pair. The clever integration of classic romcom moments, from iconic diner scenes to grand gestures of love, adds a delightful layer of nostalgia for fans of the genre.
The book is a delightful rollercoaster of emotions, providing not only laughs but also moments that tug at the heartstrings. Freeman skilfully weaves themes of love, friendship, and personal growth into the narrative, making "Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner" a well-rounded and satisfying read.
In a world where we all need a little more love, laughter, and light-heartedness, "Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner" is a heart-warming and utterly satisfying read. Kathryn Freeman has indeed "NAILED IT" in delivering a romcom that will leave you with all the feels and a smile on your face. This book is a delightful escape into the world of romance and humour, and it proves that even in the most unexpected places, love and laughter can bloom.
Another cover and title got me. I didn’t hate this one but I didn’t love it either. I think it was a quick read but I didn’t feel very connected to the main characters in the book. I give the author credit for trying and creating a fun premise but I had a hard time staying engaged.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinions. This was such a fun read with the Dirty Dancing cover! I absolutely loved this story! I found it to be funny and heart-warming, and the love story is so cute. I absolutely recommend that you take the time to read this!
DNF. I have tried five or six times to start this book, and I'm giving up. I loved the premise and the idea behind it but I just could not ever get into the characters nor did I buy any of the chemistry they were trying to sell.
Harry has split up with his girlfriend, but she refuses to move out of his house. As he is not a fan of confrontation, he hopes she’ll change her mind and goes to live somewhere else in the meantime. Sally’s sister has moved out and she needs a lodger to help pay the mortgage. When a drunken attempt at the ‘lift’ scene from Dirty Dancing goes viral on tiktok, Sally persuades Harry to re-enact other pivotal scenes from well-known romcoms with often hilarious results.
If you are a fan of romcoms, this is the perfect book for you right from the title onwards. On the other hand, I’m not sure it would make a lot of sense if you didn’t get the references. Both Harry and Sally have issues relating to their parents that affect how they see the world, particularly the possibility of finding love and romance. Harry has been materially well looked after by his parents, but never shown any love so he does not recognise it. Sally’s parents died young and she has an idealised view of relationships, but despite her obsession with romcoms she runs a successful business so is in touch with reality.
One of the themes explored in Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner is that actions speak louder than words – not everyone can put how they feel into words, but it doesn’t make it any less true. Another is that nobody can guarantee that their relationship will last forever – all you can do is take a chance and hope for the best.
The characters are well drawn and believable, and both main characters do change and grow as the story progresses. As the story is told from both their points of view, we get a rounded picture of what they are thinking and feeling. There is a lot of humour, occasionally verging on the cheesy, and some serious issues as well. The films referred to are all ones I remember, and overall this was an enjoyable trip down memory lane. Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.
From the title, I just knew I would enjoy this book. The perfect rom com characters, Harry and Sally, a plethora of rom-com references, this book was a fast read with fun dialogue, quirky characters and a cute plot. Having read a previous Kathryn Freeman book, I did not expect the level of steam that was experienced, but I’m not complaining! This book was a fun ride and makes me want to watch a few rom-com classics myself!
I will be coming back to this book when I am in the right head space: for now I was not able to finish it unfortunately.
Fake dating supremacy!! This romcom was well done and I liked the characters. I also liked that it was mentioned that just because someone loves love, doesn’t mean they don't acknowledge reality. I also liked the body positivity :)
This was my first Kathryn Freeman book and what a gem , a romcom ( understandably) but a fun easy read which engages the reader from the start. Harry and Sally were opposites, but with some chemistry between them which grew as time and the book when on! The plot re enacting old rom com plots , initially as a dare , had me laughing out loud.
Really well written and highly Recommended, I’ll be looking for more Kathryn Freeman books
Thanks to Netgalley, Harper Collins Uk , One More Chapter and Kathryn Freeman for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review
I wanted to like this one a lot because who doesn't love rom-coms? However, it was a little too cheesy and I felt like the characters didn't go through enough development over the course of the book.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were really well written and the story line was brilliant. A really cute read. Recommended.
This was hands-down one of the most enjoyable romance books I've read in a while. My first experience of a Kathryn Freeman story and it did not disappoint!
It seems to take me forever to read this but for the first time ever I wasn't complaining, as I never wanted this book to end. The characters are perfect (bar that annoying best friend!), and the plot completely absorbed me.
The cover seems like this is going to be a complete cheese fest (sorry!) but it really wasn't. I enjoyed this from start to finish and really recommend it. It'll be going on my list of books to gift at Christmas.
[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
This was a DNF for me, unfortunately. I can see the potential in the story, and the idea (and cover!) are super cute, but alas, I got stuck at about 30% and couldn't make it past it.
Harry is in need of a place to stay. His ex refuses to move out of his house so he decides that he is leaving. Sally has a spare room and her friend’s boyfriend had a friend needing a room to rent. Harry comes and visits the room and decides that he likes the room but not the decor but soon accepts and he moves in. He does not understand Sally’s obsession with RomCom’s and one night after they have had a few drinks they decide to recreate a famous scene from a movie that Sally has just watched. She videos it in case she needs to sue him if it goes badly wrong. However it is a reasonable scene and they decide to post it online. Following the success of the post they recreate other romcom scenes and post them. They say they are doing it as friends and to entertain people and earn some extra money. What they do not realise is that they are falling in love with each other. With Harry saying he does not believe in love, will they have a future together or are they destined for hurt.
This is the first book I have read by this author and also the first romance book I have read. I did like it but it is not really my genre. I would however highly recommend it as it is well written and is very funny at times.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for access to this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so cute. It was an amazing rom com that makes every hopeless romantic believe in love and happy endings.
I loved this book! As soon as I read the 2 main characters were called Harry and Sally I almost couldn't believe it. The title kind of gave it away, but there were SO MANY romcom references, my little heart almost couldn't take it. I loved it all, the opposites attract, the build up, the troubled soul, the protective friend, the short breakup in between and the big romantic gesture that wasn't that big but still make me all sappy: I'm here for it. I'm a sucker for these kind of books and Kathryn Freeman nailed this one. Would highly recommend!
DNF. It took me about a month to get 30% in. Love the premise and the idea but something about it wasn't hitting for me.
If you love your romcoms then Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner by Kathryn Freeman might be the story for you.
I initially requested this book because I love the take on the title and the cover, if you have watched Dirty Dancing then you will understand why. 🥰
When Sally lets Harry ( yes another romcom mentioned - When Harry Met Sally) to be her new lodger, they start making iconic romantic movie scenes together on TikTok and the videos go viral.
I loved reading all the mentions of the romance movies and reading Harry and Sally’s take on the iconic scenes. It made me want to binge watch romcom movies.
It was the perfect blend of romance and comedy all rolled into the one book. I did however find the characters to be stuck in this time loop of decision making which made the middle of the story slow, other than that I enjoyed this romantic comedy novel.
Thank you @netgalley , @onemorechapterhc for the digital copy of Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner for reviewing purposes.
A book where you go from one sort of feeling to another laughing in bits and sad in bits.
Harry moved into Sally’s flat as a lodger. Sally is into her romcoms and feels that life would be like this. Sally and Harry end up videoing parts in romcom films to make money he does not believe in love or romance.
I enjoyed the book could not put it down and the ups and downs of the relationships. You kind of knew the ending which was good.
