This is a really solid psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns, it was very easy to read. I really enjoyed the premise and would certainly read more from this author. The murder was quite shocking, and that definitely amped up the tension. I enjoyed Day's first book too and look forward to what she writes next.

Becca Day's second novel, All Her Little Lies, packs plenty of twists. Any fans of a classic domestic thriller with a mother at the centre will love this confident second outing from Day.

It's the age old question: what would you do if your child committed a murder?

Alex Forrester finds herself in exactly that position at the start of All Her Little Lies, when she discovers the body of her son's girlfriend - the daughter of her oldest childhood friend.

Her snap decision to hide the body and clean up the crime scene sets the wheels in motion, and Day's novel quickly gathers pace, as Alex struggles to cope with her own guilt, the desire to protect her son and her growing suspicions about everyone around her.

The opening of this book had me hooked. I especially loved the rural setting. On the one hand, there is a sense of isolation, as the farms and houses are so far apart - but it's contrasted with the fact that in a small town, everyone knows everyone. Or at least, they think they do.

Day wastes no time in setting us up for the drama - the first chapter's subtitle tells us it's "the day of the murder". These touches keep the tension high, but also mean the story is easy to follow and you waste no time orientating yourself in the story.

Alex is a great lead character - the perfect blend of frazzled, unpredictable lead battling a thousand emotions at once.

Day handles multiple point-of-view characters confidently, with enough viewpoints that we're constantly seeing the crime from different angles, but not so many that it becomes confusing or frustrating.

The book also has a police-procedural angle to it, with the character of Stefani. Day explores the interesting idea of how police in a small town deal with a crime, when they know the families and suspects involved. It's nice to see an author really exploring the private live of their detective character - and in the end I wanted Stefani to solve the crime for the sake of her career, as much as I wanted justice for Hannah, the victim.

I did enjoy the ending of All Their Little Lies - but blimey, there's a lot that goes on! There are a lot of plot lines to wrap up, but the complex ending is well handled.

There was one major plot twist that I saw coming from very early on. It didn't spoil the book for me, and there were other twists I didn't clock - but at times the red herring on that particular story line felt a little heavy handed.

What I did love about the ending was the agency the characters had in solving it - everyone who needs to be there is there, the tension is at fever pitch, the stakes are high.

I thoroughly enjoyed All Their Little Lies, and devoured it in two settings. Embla Books is an exciting new venture for Bonnier, and if they continue to publish novels like this, I can only predict they'll do very well.

Overall, I think Day has created a cast of believable, fragile characters and placed them in an impossible situation. It's thriller-writing-101, and she doesn't miss.

Twisty twisted!

Another crazy ride from Becca Day! I had to read it after enjoying her debut, The Girl Beyond The Gate.

Best friends Cynthia and Alex are as close as sisters. Two lionesses protecting their cubs. They live on the same farm, raising their familes and navigating life. And then Alex makes a bad decision, her emotions running high, screaming like someone in a horror movie as she does the unthinkable.

I was hooked from the beginning and playing detective alongside Alex and DS Stefani. The feeling of something isn't right, something is off was running high.

Chapters filled with tension and hidden clues, omg moments, toxic family issues, screwing with crime scenes and my suspects changing faster than the channels when the hubs has the remote. A few chapters were a little too detailed, a few eye rolling scenarios, but then she'd throw in another hoop to jump over. I was judging everyone............

I wasn't able to read this book due to the formatting. When it's uploaded as a pdf and not an e-book, it's very difficult to read on my phone.

First of all I would like to say a huge Thankyou to both @authorbeccaday & @emblabooks for allowing me to read this ARC copy of All Her Little Lies!!

After reading The Girl Beyond The Gate (also from this author) and loving it, I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this one!

This book is a tangled web of murder, lies, deceit and twists!!
One things for sure - when you read a Becca Day book, you know you’re in for a twisty read! 😉
I did have an inkling that I had guessed the plot quite early on in the book and was worried that because of that, it was going to become a very predictable read.
Although part of my guess was right, at the same time, I was also very very wrong! 😵‍💫
I really enjoyed this book & it kept my inner detective hooked & keen to find out what happened next 🤣🕵🏼‍♀️
Another great read from this author.

Keep your eyes peeled later this month for the release date and get this added to your tbr!

All Her Little Lies
by Becca Day

Thank you Embla Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was one I thought was ok. It could have been more. The story was predictable and felt I was reading one of "the only names have changed ... " books at the slow book, left me thinking, well it passed time. I did not make any characters stand out as I felt they should as it was meant to be a serious, thriller/ mystery.

I'm a bit split about this. There's nothing bad about the book but it didn't change my life and I'd forgotten half of it before I even got through with writing this review. It's the domestic noir, normal people doing normal stuff and then something is throw into their lives to make then doubt everything they knew about their normal life. The a bit predictable and not reinventing the wheel or anything but it is still a really decent book and does do exactly what it says on the tin

Cackling Cats! 😳😯🤯😯

Fluffer doodle! Doodleboppers!I was absolutely enamoured with Day's first debut novel and knew I had to get my paws on her second! And naturally, it has NOT disappointed at all! This was another incredible ride of a thriller Day has concocted. Deliriously delish! The crazy weave of how she did this, causing such suspense and mystery makes you question every character and even when it's revealed she throws another massive twist to bring it up a notch. The ending was so satisfying, yet heart breaking and completely spine-chilling. I will admit I needed definite chocolate reinforcement while reading this tasty novel at times because the tension kept getting more and more intense & I needed sustenance! Day has already become another favourite author of mine in my long list & she keeps proving it with every novel. Get ready for some real sock-twisting & mind shocking revelations and truth with this burner.

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Cynthia and Alex have been friends for years, and their teenagers, Hannah & Daniel, have been dating for a while. But all of that is threatened to be torn apart when Hannah goes missing and speculation falls on Daniel. Alex knows her son and he wouldn't have done such a thing, even with his past. What lengths a mother will go to to protect her son and family will be put to the brink when everyone is under scrutiny.

Thank you to NetGalley & Embla Books for this ARC.

Thank you Embla Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

HONDA CIVIC RELIABE 3 STARS. THIS IS NOT A BAD BOOK. DO NOT BE DISSUADED BY THIS RATING. If you like Shalini Boland or Samantha Hayes, you will most likely vibe with this one.

SYNOPSIS

Alex's son Daniel is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Hannah. Detective Stefani (not to be confused with Gwen Stefani) is in charge of what seems to be an open and shut case. But nothing is what it seems in this sleepy lil town.

MY OPINION

I have NOTHING bad to say about this book; it came and did what it's meant to do. So then why 3 stars? Well, like a Honda Civic, it's solid but it's not an Audi R8. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to someone for a vacay read or to help them escape a reading slump, but I'm not gonna get on the stand and say this was what Shakespeare could only dream of writing.

I must give the kudos of all kudoses for an author that knows what type of book they want to write and stays the course. I've discussed (more like ranted unprovoked) on here before, but I am willing to put my critical eye aside when I'm presented with an ordinary mom with a normal job who just genuinely loves the crapola outta her kids. I am NOT willing to put my critical eye aside when an author tries to write about a super smart psychologist with the ego of Kanye West ... and the knack for stupid choices as Mr. West.

When an author tries to go for literary masterpiece with poser ass characters and melodramatic writing, you lose me. When an author, like Becca Day did here, goes for enjoyable popcorn read with relatable salt-of-the-earth characters and straightforward writing that matches the straightforward plot, I'm down for it!

Sooo all that to say... this book was going for popcorn thriller/guilty pleasure read and it solidly delivered. No, there's not a lot of depth to the characters, and it is pretty predictable, but it's perfect for a crisp fall afternoon cuddled under a furry throw with a steaming cup of lemon ginger tea. I've read her debut [book:The Girl Beyond the Gate|60058528] and this is a totally different vibe, but I found this one more enjoyable. The ending was surprisingly NOT OTT and she didn't throw 104904 twists into the last 10% in an attempt to shock the reader—I call these hail mary twists in a last min attempt to leave the reader shooketh and trick them into thinking the book was actually good when it wasn't.

PROS AND CONS

Pros: writing stays the course... doesn't try to be too ambitious, solid popcorn thriller/guilty pleasure read, good pace, quick read, enjoyable lil plot

Cons: nada it just is what it is... Honda Civic Reliable.

"All Her Little Lies" is one of those books that appeal for its premise that nothing is what it seems to be. I would recommend this for fans of Sarah Bonner and of Mytsery/Thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I did not expect that! Wow! What a book! This book had suspense, intrigue, murder, a great who done it and so many crazy twists! The storyline was so very interesting! It definitely had me glued to my Kindle! It was a crazy read but not so much that I didn't understand! I have two grown boys and I get where the story went! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
