From the beginning of the book, I didn't expect any of what happened - which is awesome! It wasn't a typical romance but I loved the fast paced and thrilling ride of a book. I was happy to learn this is a series and we will be getting more of Cash and Callie. If you like a chase with high stakes and smart dialogue, you'll definitely enjoy this one!
Callie James is one bad a$$ character! Danger In Plain Sight was a great start to what I expect will be an explosive series that will be one to watch!
This was a great start for a new series. Callie and Cash make the perfect team as they wade through the action in this clever plot.
Many thanks to Rare Bird Books/ Blue City Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
The first in a series that revolves around Callie James. Callie owns a popular Seattle restaurant and leads a life of safety and security with her son. Until her ex comes to the restaurant asking for help. Wanting nothing to do with him, she throws him out of her restaurant, and he is hit by a car. This is just how it starts. The book is wild and fast paced. So much happens that you need to keep turning pages.
With a cast of memorable characters, non-stop action and a twisty turny plot, Weissbourd past as a movie screenwriter and producer come through on the page. There is just the right balance of drama, tension and humor to keep you sitting on the edge of your seat and hoping till the last that Callie and Cash will not only survive their enemies but prevail. This is an intense read so be sure to check the Content Warnings. The only drawback for me was that romantic storyline was too brief; it could have a bit more time to develop. Overall, if you’re looking for a cinematic read check out this first book in the Callie and Cash series.
I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley & Rare Bird Books/ Blue City Press, Rare Bird Books in exchange for an honest review.
I’m always up for a good thriller and this story has thrill, mystery and also romance. From the first chapter I was Intrigued, I was captivated if you read it you’ll know why!
It is a fast pace read that will have you flipping pages wanting to know what happens next.
I love how Callie is a working woman and single mom. She’s a strong character which I love. The romance can be hit and miss but I can not wait to read the next story!
What a ride this is! Callie is a badass and I want to see a screen adaptation of this so bad! @burtweissbourd do you have any plans for that?
I loved the fast paced, highly likely, and yet at times unlikely, story that unfolds here.
This romantic thriller lands us in Seattle at a posh French restaurant where suddenly the owner’s ex-husband is run down and flies through front windows.
All HELL breaks loose in Callie’s life as the danger her ex-husband was running now intersects with a life she’s kept safe for fourteen years. The only person who can help her his the man she fired as her bartender two-years ago for his side hustle he was running out of the bar, Cash Logan (Terry).
Together, they work to uncover “who” and “why” nefarious people are after her and the man she left in France years ago. There’s hired assassins, terrorists, international smugglers and an unlikely romance.
A fast pace read that has you turning the pages. Thank you Get Red PR Books, the author and Rare Bird Lit for the #gifted copy of this novel. Book #2, Rough Justice review coming soon!
What an exciting, action-packed kick-off to this series! I loved the cinematic feel; Callie is not unlike the heroes we see and love on the big screen. I’m excited to continue on with this series and see what Callie James gets herself tangled up in next.

This is a very good thriller. It's been out for a couple of years so there are a many helpful reviews out there. I don't have much to add except to recommend it.
Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!!
This wasn’t my usual type of book but I liked the premise and took a chance. That was a great decision. The story reads like an action movie from the first chapter. Callie needs a plan when her ex brings trouble to her doorstep she only knows one person with the skills to save her family. Sure, her ex is a cheating jerk but he’s still her son’s father so she doesn’t want to see him get taken out. But Daniel Odile-Grand has made a lot of enemies in his career so it’s going to be tough just figuring out where the threat is coming from, let alone what to do about it.
Enter Cash and his band of misfit mercenaries to the rescue. Except when things don’t go as planned, Callie ends up saving his hide just as much as he saved hers. There’s some intrigue, lots of suspense and near-constant action with a romance in the middle of it all. From terrorists to smugglers, this story has a little bit of everything and I really enjoyed it. The fast pace kept me turning pages because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I received an ARC from Get Red PR in exchange for an honest review. This review was posted to Amazon, Goodreads and Bookbub, in addition to posted on my blog and bookstagram.
Callie James has worked hard for years to make her French restaurant in Seattle one of the best. It has provided the security and safety she needed to raise her son after divorcing her cheating husband, Daniel in Paris.
Daniel shows up in Callie’s restaurant after fourteen years and asks her to hide him bringing danger to her door. Not knowing what to do, she does know someone who will, Cash, her former bartender. She is not sure if he will be help her though since she had him arrested for smuggling two years ago.
As Callie’s world spins out of control, Cash and friends pull Callie into the fire. Callie and Cash deal with international money launderers, illegal weapons dealers, professional killers and terrorists. Cash will find out what Callie is truly made of and he may never be able to call her “Frosty” again.
This was such a wild ride. I found it original in material and storyline which I appreciate in a thriller because many have been over done. It is definitely worth your read. A fast paced thriller, I won't soon forget.
his is the first book in a series from the author, and it’s summary caught my eye. Recently, I went to a domestic violence luncheon where key speaker, Rachel Louise Snyder, a journalist and author of NO VISIBLE BRUISES: WHAT WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CAN KILL US spoke in her powerful speech how it continues to be a systematic issue. Weissbourd’s novel also explores this crucial subject.
Once I picked up the book, I could not put it down as the characters were os engaging with an unexpected climax.
As a restrauranteur, Callie James has worked for years in a French restaurant in Seattle, but she makes the decision to remove herself from her violent husband, Daniel who shows up after fourteen years in hiding. Pushed in to a corner, she escapes from the restaurant with her former bartender, Cash. As her world unravels, they plunge into the world of international true crime dealing with money launderers, illegal weapon dealers, and terrorists. This book was unexpected and shocking as the events unfolded. I absoluely loved how morally gray the characters of the novel were, and cant wait to finish the next one in this series!
I really enjoyed this book!
It made me nervous a few times.
Restaurant owner Callie's ex-husband showed up without warning, and now crazy people are after HER.
So she has to swallow her pride and get help from one person she knows can protect her. He's very good-looking too!.
Great Book!
Danger in Plain Sight is a very cinematic book! It’s a fast-paced, action packed novel that is thrilling to read! Thank you to Rare Bird Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this novel.
Book Review…Danger in Plain Sight by Burt Weissbourd
Callie James is a little thrown when her ex-husband, French investigative reporter Daniel, shows up asking for her help. Even more disturbing: as she throws him out, Daniel is deliberately hit by a car. He flees from the hospital and breaks into Callie’s apartment, where reluctantly, Callie hides him. When she gets back to her restaurant, two assassins walk in, insisting that she find Daniel for them by tonight.
Hopelessly out of her depth, Callie hires the only man who can help her: Cash Logan. The assassins blow up her restaurant. It’s Callie’s nightmare. And the worst is yet to come as she and her unlikely, incompatible ally discover that the most perilous dangers are far closer to home than they’d imagined.
This is the second book in the Callie James thriller series and it's a little different than what I would normally have read. It was a good story. I like Cash and Callie's character. There is quite a bit of action. The only thing I didn't really like was that some of it was a little unbelievable but other than that it was an interesting and entertaining story! Thank you Get Red PR and Burt Weissbourd for sharing this book with me!
This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope he writes more! I am totally hooked!
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Rare Bird Books/Blue City Press and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
A mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Review
I love domestic and psychological thrillers. This one took me outside my comfort zone. Money laundering, weapons smuggling, and terrorists.
I didn't care for the romance. I don't like them in thrillers. Overall,it's a solid thriller.
Restaurant owner Callie James is shocked when her ex-husband shows up in her restaurant. She hasn’t seen him in 14 years and he needs her help. Shocked, she kicks him out only to witness him being hit by a car. Only then, Callie reluctantly agrees to hide him in her apartment. When she goes to work, two men are waiting for her, telling her to take them to Daniel or pay the consequences. Overwhelmed, Callie turns to the only person she thinks can help: Cash, the former bartender she fired for smuggling in her restaurant.
This story was exciting from the very first few pages! It was action packed and the short chapters kept me reading quickly. I love when there are twists that I don’t see coming and this book fit the bill completely. I’m excited that it’s part of a series and I’m looking forward to seeing where Callie’s story goes! If you are looking for a quick thriller, check this one out. Thank you to
