Cute holiday romance that will fill your time! I didn't find it overly memorable but I did enjoy all of the characters and supporting cast as well. The setting was fun and I felt like it was just the right amount of holiday "magic" without it feeling too over-the-top. I didn't *love* the chat and dialogue between the characters I thought that could've had some more depth to it but overall it was fun. I recommend this if you're looking for a quick holiday read to scratch the Hallmark itch. BONUS: At the time of this posting it's $2.99 on kindle! Go go go!
this was such a cute holiday read, I got soooo excited once I figured out the direction of this story. The back and forth banter in this story was incredibly funny. It was also incredibly obvious that he has always been in love with her, how she did not see it I don’t know!! I wasn’t a fan of the third person POV, it’s just generally not my favorite. I also think the transition into the relationship could have been smoother & some things did not add up. Overall, a really fun holiday read
I did not really find the romance believable. The story didn’t seem developed enough and the ending was sort of rushed. It was an easy and enjoyable read but definitely could be improved.
It took a while for this book to grab my attention, but once it did, I loved it. The Christmas vibes were fantastic. I loved the take on Santa and the North Pole so much! In fact, the Yule vibes stole the show for me more than the romance. That said, this felt like true enemies to lovers, which was fun. My main complaint is that it was too short. The ending felt super rushed. I just wanted more of the two of them. Overall, though, this was a really fun Christmas read.
4.5/5 ⭐
I chose to read this book on NetGalley.
Woah, this made so emotional... I really really loved Kate Callaghan's writing, It was so sweet and yet so powerful. There were so many good quotes. The last 10 chapters were so addictive, I couldn't put the book down.
Mason and Lyla are what I expected in love: a thunder of feelings crushing into your heart. The way both of them protect each other... I just can't handle it 😍. And can we please talk about their "sweet nothings" (such as Mason dying a dress because Lyla's favourite colour was green or Lyla cleaning Mason's wound).
I would love a spin off book about Kevin. He's so sweet, I love him so much. The family was amazing!!
I took half a star off because I didn't really connect with the last two chapters. I can't understand why Mason couldn't let Lyla ring the bell, because I'm 100% sure she would have rung it.
But overall I think this will be a Christmas reread for sure.
A fun Holiday novella featuring some genre favorite tropes like enemies to lovers, a marriage of convenience, and a grumpy love interest with a complicated past and a soft spot for those he cares about. Rivals Lyla and Mason who can't seem to get along at work end up back in Mason's home together, an idyllic holiday setting for romance and family. Lyla discovers that this cold-hearted man is more than he seems, much like the village that he is from.
This was a really fun read and the holiday storylines were surprisingly grounded. I did feel like the ending was rushed, and would have loved some more time and development for our characters right at the end. It felt a little rushed and I didn't think that Lyla's ending made much sense when considering her development but overall it has the happy ending you want when you pick up a romance for the holidays!
Give me all the festive reads! This one was an easy and cute enemies to fake relationship to lovers read. It even made me laugh a few times. However, it had more magic than I usually enjoy and it left me wanting/needing more in the romance department. Neither Lyla nor Mason were the most likable characters. I also found the ending to be incredibly abrupt. Overall, I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favorite holiday read. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
If you are looking for a festive read and love a good grumpy/sunshine romance, stop here! This is the Holiday read for you!
Lyla has been running her father's Toy company with fellow investor Mason Klaus. Klaus may be his last name, but he's more like the Grinch to Lyla! Canceling Holiday parties and focusing on numbers above all else, Lyla dreams of being able to take over Mason's shares of the company. But when the Christmas Party she threw behind Mason ends in a building fire, she's lost her bargaining chips.
Distracted by a letter indicating familial issues, Mason agrees not to hold her part in the fire against her if she accompanies him to his family reunion. This is where the festive part comes! As Mason lives in a fanciful, Christmas Village (not unlike the North Pole!). We learn that Mason is next in line for the Klaus family business (we'll call it that!) and Lyla's role in smoothing things over between he and his family.
Sparks begin to fly, but of course, conflicts also emerge -- but hold tight to your reindeer sleigh, for a happy ending is coming!
Mason and Lyla lovingly reminded me of Luke and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls, and it made this read even MORE fun for me! I found the magic was done in a way that was fun, but not TOO campy. There were explanations for all elements of Christmas Magic, which helps to keep me in the world. A recommended read for your Holiday List!
The Naughty or Nice Clause was my most anticipated festive read of the year and sadly I didn’t love it. It was definitely ok, and the speed of which I read it was absolutely a bonus. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite as magical as I’d hoped.
This took me no time at all to read, which at first was confusing, but then I realised that there weren’t many descriptions of anything. I can tell you that Mason is blonde and Lyla has curly hair, and that’s about it. There’s not much in the way of character descriptions and background details are unheard of.
The village of Yule would have been the perfect place to really get the festive vibes going with descriptions of powder-white snow and twinkling lights. But no, this didn’t happen. It’s really a shame, because the concept of this is really good, it just wasn’t executed too well.
Unfortunately, the romance also wasn’t executed very well. The book moved far too fast for Lyla and Mason to move from hating each other to being in love within literally a week, if that. I get that festive romances are meant to be over the top and they fall in love quickly, but it didn’t work here.
I did like them together and I think given time their relationship would make sense. But he pretty much kidnapped her, forced her to be his fiancee after threatening to have her memories wiped, and his ex almost killed her. That’s a bit much if you ask me.
The Naughty or Nice Clause is a Hallmark movie in written form; outrageously ridiculous with a weak romance plot. Don’t get me wrong sometimes this works, those types of movies aren’t guilty pleasures for no reason, and honestly this was a decent read. It’s just sad that you don’t really get to learn anything about the characters or their surroundings.
If you want a very quick Christmassy read that you don’t need to take too seriously, then I’d definitely recommend The Naughty Or Nice Clause. Don’t ask me why it’s called that though, I have no idea.
Yes it’s time for my festive reads 🎄📚😂 I had high hopes for this but I wasn’t blown away by it! I’m all about magical stories, especially at this time of the year but I didn’t love this, it felt a little forced and the ending in particular was a bit rushed.
I enjoyed this book, it's super cute and a nice easy holiday read. I loved the enemies to lovers trope in the book and I also loved the forced proximity and faking dating also. The world building was good and the banter was also. Overall good easy holiday read
A late Sunday night post with another cute Christmas romance - thank you @callaghanwriter and @netgalley for the gifted e-copy. This book is available now.
Lyla expected to get her dads shares of the family toy company when he retired, but they went to a grumpy investor, Mason Klaus. He cancels the company Christmas party, but she throws one anyway, almost resulting in the destruction of the building. Mason makes her a deal - join him for Christmas with his family, and he’ll forget about the party. Lyla agrees, and finds herself in a magical Christmas land pretending to be Mason’s fiancé. And did I mention his last name is Klaus??? Mmm hmmm.
This is a cute enemies to fake relationship to lovers romance that will definitely give you festive vibes!
This was such a fun quick read. Perfect for when you want something you can finish in a day. There's romance, Christmas and some fantasy wrapped in this book, and its perfect for the holiday season. Tons of tropes to pull you in: workplace romance, enemies to lovers, forced proximity and a few more. I enjoyed this title so much that I will go out and get a physical copy.
2 stars
An enemies-to-lovers romance in a Christmas wonderland.
The concept of this book was interesting enough to make it irresistible to me. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic, the office romance and the fake relationship were what further reeled me in.
Despite the exciting plot, the writing style didn't do the book justice. There was barely any background about the characters which made it confusing and hard to read. Coupled with the lack of descriptions about generally anything in the book, I felt as if I signed up for a frustrating read. It was difficult to make sense of the characters and their actions, the events, or the chemistry between the characters.
Thank you Netgalley and CallaghanWriter for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute Christmas novel. I love that it was a bit a different to your normal romance Christmas book. It was sort of like rivals to lovers and I love that it took time for them to realise their feelings for one another rather than just rushing straight into it. I loved the build up.
It's set in Dublin and the North Pole and it just made me feel so christmassy with a loving family, Christmas activities, snow and a bit of romance. I think it was a lovely read to start off December.
Thank you @netgalley for gifting me this arc! I really enjoyed it. Definitely check it out if you're in the mood for a Christmas read!
Thank you to @netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is my first Christmas read of the year, and I loved the way the traditional elements of Christmas was brought to life in this book, with a twist.
The small, secluded village that we would know as the North Pole was written in a way which was so descriptive that I'm longing to go to a place that doesn't exist (or does it?)
However, the romance for me fell a little flat. I didn't feel any chemistry or sexual tension between the two main characters in a way that had me yearning for them to get together - I was just reading it with no emotional interest.
5/5 for the festivities and writing style but 2/5 for me on the romance!

Started off great and I was intrigued by the idea of a hate-to-love/ fake dating story but once they travelled by bells and landed in the North Pole I realised this probably wasn't for me right now. Maybe I'll give it another chance when I'm in a magic-y mood. However, if you want a magic filled festive read with a bit of spice then maybe this'll be your cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows.
Are you looking for enemies to lovers, workplace romance, forced proximity, fake dating, holiday romance, a scenic setting and.....Santa? Well, look no further.
The Naughty or Nice Clause by Kate Callaghan is a (relatively shorter) quick read that contains our favorite guilty pleasure romance troupes with a modern take on what'd it be like to meet the Clauses. Grab a copy and get cozied up with these holiday romance vibes.
I finished this book a few weeks ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it.
I love the magic of the season in this book. How both characters needed to work through things to be able to end up where they did. I love a great holiday rom com. This one will not disappoint for someone looking for an easy holiday read with a touch of Christmas and North Pole excitement in it.
Overall the book was cute and had a fun twist on dating Santa Claus. I could vividly picture this book as a Hallmark or Netflix Christmas rom-com.
I really enjoyed the plot of it and the twist on Santa/the north pole, it was definitely different than any other book/movie I've seen with a similar premise.
It just needed a little more to it. It was a rather short book.
I received an ARC copy from NetGalley to review.
