Alison Mukherjee is an exciting new literary voice bringing special magic to an overcrowded genre. This is a beautifully written novel and hopefully the first in a series.
I loved all the characters - good and bad - and the premise didn't need any of the graphic violence of a police procedural or psychological thriller whilst still managing to avoid all the twee tropes of a Cozy crime novel.
Bringing the portraits to life in the Whitler Gallery is pure genius. Alison is a writer with a glittering future.
This was my first book to read by this author but won't be my last! The story and its characters will stick with you long after you finish the story. Highly recommend!
A decent mystery but the true appeal is in the fun writing style. A nice change from the hard boiled thrillers without being too cosy.
This is an entertaining and well plotted mystery that kept me hooked and guessing. i had fun and found it entertaining and well written.
A bit slow at the beginning, gripping after some chapters.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This book was such a fun surprise of a read. It started a little slow but once I got into it I was hooked. It felt like the an adult version of The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler, which is indeed one of my favourite middle school books.
It has a museum, mystery, mistakes and some characters that you can’t help but fall for. Robert might not be the ideal burglar but his blunders and heart draw you in.
This was a fun, feel good read that I recommend you pick up.
Thank you @netgalley and the @bookguild for the ARC!
