I loved getting lost in the imagined lives of the women of Egon Schiele’s art in the Flames who were each determined and hopeful in their own unique ways. Early 20th century Vienna and small town Czech Republic felt vivid and immersive. I wasn’t familiar with Schiele and his art before reading, but I did a deep dive right after finishing and am so glad to have been introduced.

This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!
