** “To put it in simple terms, there are so many broken and hurting people in the world who need God’s touch to heal and fix that brokenness.” **
Lynette Eason delivers an incredible third installment in her Extreme Measures series with “Critical Threat,” a fast-paced, action-packed read.
When former acquaintances Grace Billingsley and Sam Monroe find themselves joining forces to find a serial killer, they find themselves drawn not only into the case but toward each other. But as the case gets closer and closer to them personally, they must work through the clues to figure out the identity of the horrific killer.
As always, Eason does an incredible job of developing a plot filled with heart-thumping twists and turns, leaving the reader guessing until the very end. She creates relatable characters with deeply riddled pasts.
She also fills “Critical Threat” with some great themes, like God helps and heals the broken; everyone is troubled in their own way; and we must offer people grace and love.
Fans of authors like Terri Blackstock, Irene Hannon and Carrie Stuart Parks (whom Eason references in this book, which is due out Jan. 3) will love “Critical Threat.”
Five stars out of five.
Revell provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
Eason is almost too good at creating serial killer brains :)
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book!
From the very beginning, this book was intense with lots of suspense, romance, and faith. Grace and Sam are psychologists racing against time to prevent another death by a deranged serial killer. For Sam, it is personal because he has suspicions that his father, although in prison, is somehow involved. This is the third book in the Extreme Measures books by Lynette Eason. She is a favorite author of mine and never disappoints. I highly recommend this book as well as the first two in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Revel for the opportunity to receive this ARC and give my honest review.
Another well written romantic suspense that like all of Lynette's books draws you in and has you on the edge of your seat as you try to solve the who what and why.
Years earlier Sam Monroe a prison psychologist change his name after all he wants no one to know that his father was a serial killer but that does give him inside knowledge So when someone is killing women exactly how his father did he is called in to help along side FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley who is also a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst. Soon they are both trying to track down who the killer is and if it is Sam's father peter pulling the strings from inside prison and it becomes much more urgent when Grace is targeted to be the next victim. meanwhile the connection between these two is growing as well Can they build a future together
I loved "Critical Threat" by Lynette Eason! This is the 3rd book in the Extreme Measures series. This book caught my attention from the first page throughout the entire book. There was non-stop suspense and mystery. I had a hard time putting this one down and it had a big twist at the end. Lynette Eason did a really good job with this one. This is my favorite one of her books..so far! I highly recommend this one!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Sam changed his last name years ago so that no one knew who his father is. But now someone is killing women in almost the same manner as his father did all those years ago. Grace met Sam on another case and is shocked to find out his given last name. They are both convinced his father has something to do with the killings even with him being in prison and isolated from everyone now they just have to prove it before another woman is found dead. Thank you for the ARC copy.
Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors and she doesn’t disappoint with her latest book Critical Threat. Well written edge of your seat page turner with fantastic character dynamics. If you enjoy romantic suspense I recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
A string of murders has Grace busy developing a profile. What she doesn't expect is that the murderer has become fascinated with her, and she becomes a target. Alongside her team, a prison psychiatrist is called in, because he's got insider knowledge of a similar serial killer - his father. They work together to figure out what's going on while working through tough memories of the past and fears for the future.
Recommend for those who enjoy Christian suspense.

The story of Grace Billingsley and Sam Monroe is one that is a fascinating characters study as well as a fast-paced suspense thriller. The clever way the author builds the story, with layers and unexpected twists, is absolutely brilliant and addictive. I enjoyed getting to know the characters who were the FBI agents and was intrigued by the personality of the villains. Sam’s father, an inmate in prison and a serial killer, was a complicated character who added to the terror that unraveled in the plot. The plot was tight, with misdirection in just the right places and a satisfying mixture of romance building just as the suspense ramped up. I also enjoyed the signature humor of the author, like the dinner date that seemed to always get interrupted. This is a compelling book to read with edge-of-your-seat action and uniquely complicated relationships that are explained well and thoroughly. The suspense gets intense at times, but that must made the story more enjoyable for me. With well-developed ideas and clues throughout the novel, this book kept me guessing and absorbed. I did not like all of the characters but all of them were fleshed out and made me see them for who they were created to be. I enjoyed the resilience of Grace and her reliance on her faith and her colleagues. And I enjoyed seeing Sam develop into a man who deserved her trust. Unpredictable and heart-pounding suspense make this book the perfect addition to the series! It can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend the entire series and getting to know all of the characters who are friends and who support each other in their quest for justice.

My favorite of the Extreme Measures series, Critical Threat is the story of FBI Behavioral Analyst Grace Ballenger and FBI Special Agent Sam Monroe as they track a serial killer.
Lynette Eason always gives us great characters and a riveting story, and this is no exception. Critical Threat is action-packed and suspenseful, with some romance and faith lessons woven in. I loved that there is a hint of a possible fourth book in the series coming!
Critical Threat is romantic suspense at is finest! Highly recommended.
Many thanks to Revel and Net Galley for my copy of this book. The opinions are my own.
Read this book but be prepared to do nothing until you finish it because once you start it, you won't want to put it down! The characters in the story just keep taking so many hard times but it is so interesting to read how it all comes together and who is behind the murders! Grace and Sam were phenomenal characters in the story!
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
Whew! This book definitely took me for a ride! This is the third book in Lynette Eason's "Extreme Measures" series. Of the three, #2, Crossfire is my favorite so far. The action, twists and suspense in this one were great, but some of the crime details were honestly a bit gory.
I wouldn't really recommend this to young readers.
Prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe/Romanos was interesting, and his kids were amusing. I loved Grace's character as a advisory special agent, and her tenacity for crime solving was admirable. Hers and Sam's dry humor was to die for. This mystery constantly kept me guessing until the last few chapters.
Age rating: 16 and up for blood, violent deaths, and crime scene details.
Thank you to the publisher and author for the complimentary paperback as part of Lynette's launch team. Thank you to Netgalley for the complimentary e-book. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own.
"Critical Threat" is the third book in Lynette Eason's "Extreme Measures" series. This book centers around FBI Agent Grace Billingsley and prison psychologist Sam Monroe, who must work together to stop a serial killer before he strikes again. But it's not as easy as it sounds when the killer begins to target Grace, and Sam has to communicate with his imprisoned serial killer father to ask for help. I enjoyed the sweet relationship between Grace and Sam, although I thought it built a little slowly and didn't have much chemistry. I enjoyed reading about the characters from previous books and getting updates on their lives.
Overall, it was a good book but the storyline wasn't quite as strong as the previous books. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Grace Billingsley is the fourth of the friends who we finally get to meet in Critical Threat by the award winning, highly talented, Lynette Eason of her action packed Extreme Measures series. Grace is a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst who works diligently to get the bad guys off the streets. She is often called in to consult when a suspected serial killer is being pursued by the FBI.
Psychiatrist Sam Monroe works at the prison and is keenly aware just because someone is behind bars doesn't mean they're no longer a threat to society.
Sam and Grace are called in to consult when a threat shows up similar to his notorious father's killing spree and his fears surface once again. Will the chaos that ensues be too much for them as they seek to find the truth about whoever is behind these latest threats?
Eason sends us racing against time, personalities, and family dynamics as we seek to discover who is behind these mysterious deaths. Her style and talent are showcased through the pages of another romantic suspense that keeps readers engaged and guessing. I enjoy her writing and I like this series though I'll admit it isn't my favorite of her writings.
Thank you Revell and NetGalley for the opporunity to review this title. All opinions are my own.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
This has been my most favorite book of Lynette so far. The suspense in this book is on point and it had me guessing right up to the end. The plot was well thought out and kept you engaged throughout the book.
Grace and Sam previously met at a conference but a serial killer case brings them together. As they work to solve the case their lives and those around them are thrown into danger.
Edge of your seat suspense and a great overall read in my opinion!
FBI Agent Grace Billingsly is back and on the hunt for another serial killer. Working with prison psychiatrist, Sam Monroe, she is trying to find clues to the gruesome killer who abducts middle aged women and cuts out their tongues. Sam seeks a connection between this killer and his father, serving life sentences for his serial killings of young girls. When the killer starts targeting Grace, and trying to abduct her, it becomes personal and a race against time.
Suspenseful and good character parts but too repetitive, for me, in some of the Grace related
incidents.
She's an FBI agent with security and he repeatedly manages to get close enough to attack?
Too much of a stretch for me, in parts.
This is a Christian romantic suspense and the third book in the series but it could be read as a stand alone. The book grabbed me from the start and was hard to put down. FBI Agent Grace tracks serial killers using her skills as a psychiatrist. Sam is a prison psychiatrist and they are called to work together. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one.
Review:
Critical threat is the third book in Grace Billingsley's story. I haven't read any of the previous books but I didn't feel like I missed any crucial information about Grace and her story. This chapter in her story is very self contained. I loved her passion for what she was doing and how capable she was at her job.
I found Sam to be such an interesting character who has a crazy backstory but is a genuinely capable and interesting person with a rich and varied life which is central to the plot and story of the book. I loved his relationship with his kids and how open and honest both he and Grace were about their faith and how it impacted their lives and their jobs.
The mystery of the serial killer in this book is intriguing and Sam's perspective as the son of a convinceted serial killer and a prision psycologist gives the story a unique perspective I don't feel like I've heard before. The final conclusion to the mystery was a really well done twist.
Synopsis:
FBI Special Agent Grace Billingsley tracks serial killers, using her skills as a psychiatrist and behavioral analyst to get dangerous people off the street and safely behind bars. But prison psychiatrist Sam Monroe knows that just because a killer is incarcerated doesn't mean they're not a threat. His own father, Peter, is a serial killer--in prison but certainly not out of Sam's life, as much as he wishes he was.
When bodies start showing up with Peter's MO, Sam and Grace are both called in to consult. They've met before--and though Grace thought they'd made a real connection, Sam ghosted her. They'll have to get past the awkwardness and mistrust to solve this case--especially because it's about to get personal.
Critical Threat by Lynette Eason is the third book in the Extreme Measure series but can easily be read as a stand alone novel. It follows the characters of Grace, an FBI agent, who uses her psychology background to profile criminals and Sam, a prison psychiatrist. They work together to figure out who is behind a recent string of brutal killings of women in their area. Sam is no stranger to serial killer since his father is currently in prison for being one himself. This fact is something that Sam must work through over the course of the novel. Grace works to forgive herself for what she did as a teen that led to her brother becoming a drug addict. Both of their internal issues are wonderfully written and resolved.
I greatly enjoyed both main characters and loved Sam's interactions with his children. As always Lynnette Eason does a great job with the mystery and suspense of the novel. It is pretty dark with the serial killer aspect but still quite enjoyable. Overall I really loved this book and can't wait to read the fourth in the series.
I’m loving this inspirational romantic suspense series featuring four strong female protagonists who met as teenagers in juvie. It’s been wonderful to see how life has turned out for them. I’ve always appreciated that Eason writes about characters who are flawed and work hard to overcome adversity, learn something about themselves and then live to fight for justice.
Check your queasiness factor at the door for this one! I’ll admit to skipping a few paragraphs when the serial killer was ‘at work.’
Things I enjoyed:
✔️unique characters; a prison psychologist and an FBI profiler
✔️clean, Christian read
✔️authentic characters
✔️plausible plot and ‘non lovey dovey’ romance
✔️action-packed suspense
✔️twisty mystery
✔️allowed readers to get inside the head of a serial killer
✔️gave the readers room to figure out the killer
✔️true crime feel
I enjoyed the focus on forgiveness and the exploration of guilt as much as I liked the acknowledgement that we need to deal with our past so that it doesn’t hamper our future. What stood out to me most was how one decision can put us on a journey towards a completely different life.
I’m eagerly anticipating book four.
