A great thriller - I would recommend it!
This is a psychological legal drama. There are a lot of twists and turns. All the characters are flawed. I loved the ending. It is a gritty read.
Wonderful thriller that will keep the reader engaged throughout the whole story. The characters are diverse and well done.

Cassie seems to have it all, an ex-rockstar husband Theo, a beautiful little girl, Abby and a well-paid, although time consuming, job as a corporate lawyer. However, the day after Cassie and Theo celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary the police are knocking on their door. A woman has been found murdered in a dumpster right next door to Theo’s music studio and by the evidence it seems the murder took place inside the studio. When the police identify the victim as Elise Sterling who nannies for a family down the street, the neighbourhood is shocked just as much as Cassie and Theo. Elise was a childhood friend of Cassie’s and due to Theo being a stay-at-home dad, he spent a good amount of time with Elise while he was in the park with Abby and was also giving her guitar lessons. Suddenly Theo is in the frame and is desperate for Cassie to represent him despite her not being a criminal lawyer. Cassie knows how important this fight will be mainly to keep the father of her daughter out of prison, but can she separate being the wife of the defendant and his lawyer? And more importantly can she trust what Theo is telling her?!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
Kind of boring and the characters were predictable. I expected more from this author. I have read her books before and was intrigued but this one missed the mark.
A good thriller and one that keeps you guessing. Good twist at the end. I'm new to the author but will look out for more based on this.
I enjoyed reading this. I guessed the outcome a little early but it was probably around the intended timing. It was good to see how it unfolded and the lengths people will go to. Unusally I liked the ending which left a few questions unanswered.
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
Like other reviewers this book seemed similar to others but was an enjoyable read.
Story told in different times regarding the characters but easy to follow.
Theo a former rock star in the band The Sluggers, is now a stay at home dad to Abby, whilst Cassie his wife is a corporate lawyer.
When a body is found outside the back of Theo's studio he is the main suspect. The victim was Elise, a friend of theirs, who he had spent time teaching how to play the guitar.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this gripping read.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
Cassie and Theo appear to be the perfect couple. They have a an 18-month old daughter and have been happily married for two years. Theo was a former rockstar, who gave up his music career to focus on raising his daughter. Cassie is a partner in a large corporate law firm.
The morning after celebrating their two year wedding anniversary, Cassie and Theo receive a knock on their front door. The police inform them that a woman's dead body was found in the dumpster outside of Theo's music studio. It turns out the woman is Elise, Cassie's former friend from high school. Elise was a nanny in the neighbourhood and was receiving guitar lessons from Theo.
Theo is arrested for Elise's murder. All the evidence points to him. Although Cassie is a corporate attorney, she agrees to defend and represent Theo. As more evidence comes out, Cassie battles with the notion of whether Theo is guilty or not. Is Cassie's husband the man she thought she married? Or is he a cold-blooded killer?
This was an exciting and juicy read. I was super invested in finding out whether Theo was the killer or not. As the book goes on, more and more secrets come out. This is definitely a page-turner!
The author tells the story from both Cassie and Theo's point of view. A dual timeline is also at play - starting 6 months before Elise's murder and then post-murder. This kind of story-telling made for a very enjoyable read.
This was my first read by Kane but definitely not my last. This is a great thriller filled with lots of dramatic twists and turns!
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
My first book by Ellery Kane and definitely not my last. I really enjoyed this.

I really enjoyed this book. I really didn’t like Theo however, I felt he came across very much as a “man-child” expecting Cassie and his mother to do everything for him despite being a father himself. Also, I felt he was totally oblivious to certain situations which were very very obvious to the reader, and it drove me crazy that he never stood up for Cassie when his mother Gloria was just being plain mean to her. But as I have said in other reviews to provoke me to have such feelings about a character shows great writing by the author I feel! I also really enjoyed hearing from both Cassie and Theo, and I loved the different timelines too.
Overall, this was great and definitely deserving of 4 stars. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the twists and turns of a psychological thriller. I will be looking out for more books by this author, and I have already bought her other book “The House Sitter”.
Thank you to NetGalley, Ellery Kane and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.
What a spine tingling physcological thriller. It has so many twists and turns that you will have whiplash. You can't get enough of this and just want more and more.
This is my first book by Ellery Kane and I'm currently adding more to my tbr! Not just a domestic thriller but a legal one as well with some courtroom drama thrown into the mix. I really liked the way the story was told from before and after the murder from two points of view. They blended very nicely together to tell an enjoyable fast paced read!
An easy read although the plot twists were very predictable, the characters could have had more depth. A story that has been done many times and I didn’t feel this one gave anything new to add the the retelling of it!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy of this book!
I enjoyed this read, at times it seemed a bit slow and other times, it picked up and kept my attention.
I can't wait to read more by this author.
I really liked this one!
The police show up at the Copeland’s door. There has been a murder behind Theo’s studio, when Theo and Cassie follow them to help the investigation they learn that the murdered is Elise, a nanny in their neighborhood, a good friend of a Theo and an old friend of Cassie. All evidence points to Theo and with rumours of an affair it’s hard for Cassie to know that to believe. Corporate lawyer Cassie decides with Theo to represent him in court, but what does she even believe?
Being told between Theo leading up to the murder, and Cassie after the murder, the differing perspectives paint the full picture. We see the truth behind Theo and Elise’s friendship, and see the effect of a possible affair and murder has on a young family.
It kept me interested and intrigued to find out the truth. Definitely recommend.
This book definately held my interest and had me flipping the pages. With a timeline of before and after the murder. Told by 2 POV'S it made it interesting. The ending was a complete suprise for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Good Wife by Ellery Kane from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I absolutely loved this book from the very first page. There were so many OMG moments throughout this book!! I loved how fast paced this book was and kept me guessing until the end. You will absolutely love this book and I highly recommend you read this ASAP!
Wow, how have I not read any of Ellery Kane’s books before? This kept me on the edge of my seat, it was so fast-paced and twisty.
Theo has been accused of murdering a young woman and Cassie will do what she can to defend her husband. But can Cassie be trusted? I can’t say anymore without revealing any spoilers, but this is an excellent book.
Five stars *****
