Oh heyyyyy now. Look at this domestic thriller with bones and teeth!
Cassie and Theo are married with a baby girl. Theo gave up his career as a Rockstar to be a stay at home dad while Cassie works the ridiculous hours at a law firm. They have ups and downs like any marriage, but they are essentially a cute little family who make it work.
Enter Elise. She was one of Cassie's best friends growing up, but they had not seen each other in many years. Elise lands a job as a neighbor's nanny and slowly starts inserting herself into their lives. That is, until someone bludgeons her in the head and leaves clues pointing at Theo.
Though inexperienced with criminal law, Cassie believes that she will be his best shot at exoneration so she takes a leave of absence from her big fancy job to defend her husband and she doesn't miss a beat in the courtroom (yassss girl!).
We piece together what happened, by listening to Theo's version of events in the months leading up the Elise's murder, and Cassie's after he has been charged with her murder.
This book was fast-paced and twisty with characters who all have a little something to hide.
Thank you #Bookouture #netgalley and #ellerykane for allowing me to read and review this ARC of a novel being published 10/25/22.

I was sold on the title and the fact that the main character was a lawyer kind of reminds me of the CBS show of the same title starring Julianna Marguiles.
I enjoyed the alternating timelines and POVs between Cassie and Theo. Although I got a good sense of the ending, it did not take away the intrigue and the fun.
Definitely a fun and twisted domestic thriller. Ellery A. Kane did a great job on this one.
This is a. Edge of your seat read about the murder of a young woman and the husband who is put on trial for his murder. As his own wife tries to defend him even she starts to doubt that his friendship with the victim was not not just friends. This is dark and full of twists and turns as I tried to work out who was the murderer and why. Loved it.
Decent thriller and writing. Not the most shocking but your basic thriller. Still good and enjoyable. Like the characters and storyline. Would read from author again. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC
My first read by this author and even though I enjoyed it i found it was no different to other books out there at the moment,I kept hoping it would warm up abit more but saying that I would still read other books by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC
This was an ok well written book which had an interesting storyline. A bit slow burner for me and it wasn't as thrilling as I imagined until about over half way through when the tension picked up a bit. The characters were interesting and well developed. I guessed the culprit quite early on which was disappointing.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
This was my first read by this author and I enjoyed it! Definitely a page-turner. I loved the back-and-forth timeline and alternate POV. The husband had me so angry at times! As was the point. Clever plot twist! Which, I admit, I figured out (only because I read all the time. Someone who doesn't read as much likely won't). I couldn't find anything wrong with this and will be picking up more of her books!
Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy. My review will be posted on Goodreads.
I only gave this 5 stars because that was as high as I could go! I would give it 10 stars if I could! I enjoyed this book from start to finish. It kept me entertained when I should have been doing other things!
Incredible thriller that immediately pulls the reader into the plot. I absolutely enjoyed this story and could not wait to enjoy the rest of the book
I was SO excited to read this book and so was really chuffed when an email popped up saying that they had approved my request and so with that, I have to say a massive thank you to @bookouture & to @netgalley for providing me with this free E-copy, I was not disappointed.
I kid you not, I could not put this book down, from beginning to end I was hooked. Were introduced to our boss babe and MC, Cass, attorney, mother & woman scorned by her husband Theo and his apparent illicit affair with a local nanny, but all isn’t as it seems and when the nanny turns up dead, Theo finds himself the only suspect in a mounting case against him, painting him nothing but guilty & Cass finds herself in the fight of her life, trying to keep both herself, family and marriage together whilst it's falling apart at the seams.
I don’t want to go into as much into detail as I would normally in my other reviews because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who wishes to eventually read it but, WOW, the twists and turns in this story and the ending I DID NOT see coming. I had a few theories and was glad to have been proved wrong!
The only thing I would have loved to have seen, well in this case read, would have been an entry from the victim, the dead nanny, Elise, I would have loved to have seen what was going on in her mind in the events leading up to her murder.
Theo, a former rock musician, is now a full carer for his baby daughter while his wife Cassie a corporate lawyer, who’s just made partner works long hours. He gets to know Elise, a young nanny in the park while they watch their charges play and agrees to give her guitar lessons at his studio. When she is found dead in a rubbish skip behind his studio, he is suspect number one and finds himself on trial for murder. He claims he was framed, but is he really as innocent as he makes out.
Kane provides us with the events leading up Elise’s murder and to the trial from both Cassie’s and Theo’s points of view. Elise is clearly quite manipulative (and she has her reasons), but then Cassie and Theo aren’t always honest with each other either. The plot is somewhat predictable but it is well done with plenty of suspense and tension between Theo and Cassie. I did wonder at the plausibility of a corporate lawyer taking on her husband’s murder trial with an alleged affair at the heart of it, especially since she was his alibi for the night of the murder (and you think would have been called as a witness). Also, that she had no junior counsel to assist her, despite a short six week court date. However, I nevertheless enjoyed the courtroom drama and seeing the layers of secrets and lies peeled away. The shockingly twisty ending was also very well done.
I enjoyed the story very much, found it hard to put down as I wanted to see what happened next. very interesting story.
This is a fast paced, twisty and dark thriller. I raced through it to get to the ending.
The plot was fairly predictable but did give an unexpected twist at the end.
It’s a really good read and one that I enjoyed. I’d recommend it and will look out for more books from this author in future.
The Good Wife by Ellery Kane
I have read all of this authors books and have yet to be disappointed. This is another good read that kept my interest and made me want to know for sure who done it. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher and author for another great read that I would recommend to all.
The Good Wife is a fast-paced, mostly enjoyable thriller. While the premise isn't the most original, it is still interesting enough to keep the reader hooked. Elise, a neighborhood nanny is murdered behind a music studio owned by former musician Theo Copeland. He is instantly the prime suspect. His wife, Cassie, then opts to defend him, even though she is a corporate attorney, not a criminal lawyer. As secrets are revealed and Elise's complex relationship with both Cassie and Theo is unraveled, Cassie attempts to put together a full-proof defense for her husband. Who is the victim and who is the villain in this book? The story is told through two POVS: Cassie (in the present) and Theo (in the past). Like I said, while I enjoyed the book, it felt a bit "done-before." There was nothing new, and the ending was quite predictable. Overall, I rate it 3 stars.
I read mostly thrillers and for the most part can guess the clues as they are happening. But this book kept me guessing all the way to the end. While I had my suspicions, to read it all unfold had me hooked.
Did Theo fall to his temptations of a beautiful nanny or did he stay faithful? Was all the evidence of an affair a set up by Elise or Theo being careless? Is Cass a liar? So many twists and very satisfying courtroom drama! I look forward to reading more from Ellery Kane.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
This was actually a very interesting and gripping psychological thriller.
The story starts with Cass and Theo who seemed to be having a happy married life with their eighteen-month-old daughter Abby when the police arrest Theo for the murder of Elise. Cass is a lawyer and even though the evidence are mounting against Theo, she chose to defend her husband even after finding out that Theo and Elise had been having an affair. Can Cass trust her husband?
From start to finish the story was gripping and the author did a good job of drawing the reader into the story. This was fast paced, and the story divides between the present and the past when Theo met Elise. What made it more interesting in my opinion are the court scenes. The story is mainly told by Cass's point of view. The ending and the most unexpected twist at the end made me rise this book an extra star--totally unexpected twist! Overall, I enjoyed reading this domestic thriller as it was one hell of a roller coaster ride I had with this book.
If you like a good domestic thriller with a part where the wife defends the husband, then this book is highly recommended--worth 4.5 stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
I read a lot of thrillers. Many of them blend together. There are a few that I figure out and become bored with. The Good Wife is in a league of its own. Is Cassie a good girl or bad girl? That was the question. Did Theo succumb to Elise's flirtations? More questions that went around and around throughout the pages. The Good Wife is one of the best thrillers that I have read this year. The novel is brilliantly written and kept me guessing. I look forward to reading many more of Kane's books.
A digital ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and Bookouture. The opinions are my own and freely given.
Cast of characters:
Cassie - Corp lawyer/partner; Theo's wife
Theo - stay-at-home dad; former band front man of the "Sluggers"; Cassie's husband - the accused
Elise - nanny of neighbor family; high school best friend of Cassie; murder victim
This is told from 2 different POVs. Cassie - After and Theo leading up to the murder/arrest.
The body of Elise, the nanny in the neighborhood, is discovered in a dumpster and all evidence points to Theo being the murderer. Theo is arrested and begs his wife Cassie to represent him. The only problem is, Cassie is a corporate lawyer and not a criminal lawyer.
This story tests loyalty and trust in a marriage. From having suspicions of unfaithfulness to suspicions of a murderer. Lies? Probably. But are they enough to send Theo to prison?
I spent the whole time wondering, Did He, or Didn't He? Reading Theo's side of the story made me think, "He is innocent" and then seeing the evidence (circumstantial at best) stacked against him, made me think he so guilty.
I couldn't wait to find out what really happened to Elise. I didn't figure it out until right before it was revealed. (Literally the page before.) I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this if you like a book that makes you wonder through the whole thing.
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Ellery Kane.
Thank you for my copy of this book to read and review.
Although I did enjoy this book, it felt similar to books I’ve read before. It was a bit predictable and I’d guessed quite early on where it was going. It was a bit slow to begin with but picked up half way through. I did like the alternating chapters of ‘before’ and ‘after’.
I feel like there were a few questions left unanswered but a well-written, easy to read thriller.
