I enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read. A very predictable plot that is similar to a lot of other books. But nonetheless it was fast paced enough that once you start you will want to finish. This is my first book I’ve read by Ellery Kane and I will definitely be reading more.

I enjoyed this one! It started off a little slow, but once it picked up it had me hooked! Highly recommend.

Granted the premise isn't the most original but I still didn't feel like I was reading something I'd read before! The characters were well written and the plot keeps a fast pace throughout. There were plenty twists thrown in, and yeah a few are rather predictable but I still really enjoyed it. Its quite a quick and easy read so o flew through it. It did keep me engaged throughout though and I was dying to see what the secret from the last would turn out to be. I actually would have liked for a few of the things to have bn delved into a bit deeper such as the girls past or why the issues noted in the medical files weren't brought up in court bit meh, it is what it is and it was a pretty decent wee book

While the story is somewhat interesting, it's pretty underwhelming. The twists and turns that were created did not surprise me in any way. The characters were slow to develop, and the cloud that was written in for Cassie was poorly placed. It was too late when the author pointed to Cassie as having harmful intentions by putting in her past. I thought it was just another twist that the author threw in there to confuse the reader, and it was a reach to save the story. Elise's character never developed. She was there as a placement to help the story along, and it felt empty. I wanted to like this story; however, this plot has been done before, and it was done in a much better manner.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me read this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting way to tell the story. From Theo’s point of view starting back 6 months before the murder and current happenings from Cassie’s point of view. Is her husband a womanizer like his father? Is he capable of murder? Cassie is a competitive corporate lawyer who decides to defend her husband. She has skeletons in her closet that he is not aware of. The shocking things she learns causes heartache. I kept reading to see if my suspicions would come to fruition. I felt sympathy for some of the characters and learned to loathe others. Great character development. Good storyline. I just could not figure how Theo’s phone could possibly have gotten into the possession of a certain someone (prior to the plant). Did Theo not remember using his phone to google an event after they got home from their anniversary dinner? They say love is blind. Can Theo and Cassie’s marriage survive a murder trial?

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I loved this book! I loved the development of the characters and the twist kept me guessing until the very end. Way to tie everything together!

Like other reviewers said the storyline seemed very similar to other reads but it was still enjoyable. I liked the way the story was told in different timelines but I felt the ending was a bit rushed and more explanation on a character’s backstory was needed. But I still enjoyed reading it x thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy to read

This was one of those books that is eerily similar to another. You're reading it feeling like you've read it already and as the pages turn, you realize it's almost exactly like another popular domestic thriller whose name I won't speak for the sake of not spoiling anything. It usually never bothers me when I read a book that has the same concept as another because they are still also different in their own ways. This however is almost a little too similar. That being said, I carried on still giving it a chance. I did enjoy the past and present perspectives from the husband and wife. It kept the suspense and mystery up although I did figure out who the murderer was about halfway through. The story in itself was decent but by the end, I felt like I needed more explanation from the wife's past and couldn't help feeling like something was missing. I give this three stars as it was still an enjoyable read, I just wanted more. Three Stars.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

I loved this book! It wasn’t super original and there were parts where I felt like I’d read the same book before BUT it didn’t put me off - the writing was fun and the plot was easy to read. Will totally read more of Ellery Kane in the future!

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it was told before and after with the point of view of two different characters. I worked out the real killer but it didn’t spoil it and I had to keep reading to find out why the real killer had done it.
This is the first book I have read by Ellery Kane but looking forward to reading more of her books.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

Cassie, a corporate lawyer, and Theo, a retired musician, turned full time stay at home dad, to daughter Abby, face their worst nightmare. Theo is accused of killing a neighborhood nanny, and his wife’s former best friend, Elise. The kicker, Cassie agrees to represent her husband in the court of law. Is Theo guilty? Can Cassie win their case to save her family?

I so wanted to love this book. I love the cover art! I love a domestic thriller. But this fell short for me. It reminded me of another popular domestic thriller I read this summer, won’t give away the title, but just wasn’t done as well, in my opinion.

I guessed the whodunnit very early on, hindering my excitement as I read, but was intrigued enough to keep reading to see how the author would ultimately unfold the plot twist. For me, the twist was meh. I wanted more. I also wanted more of an explanation of Cassie’s past. I felt like the author talked it up so much and then just breezed through it.

Overall, I would say this is a quick read, 3 stars.

I also really liked that part of the book was in the courtroom. It is a fast paced, thriller with several twists. This is the first book I have read by Ellery Kane but looking forward to reading more of her books.

Sinfully Lucious! 😳😯🤯😳

I'm gonna be honest, at first I wasn't sure with this one for the first half. Some of it seemed to be predictable and wasn't too shocking, but the ending definitely rectified itself big time for me. With that being said, it didn't pack quite as big of a punch as I had hoped from this novel. A lot of the plot felt "been there, done that" and a lot of predictability. I even figured out the "who" half way through. But Kane still did an excellent job with her writing, the subplot, the weaving & combining of characters and their story. It was definitely a fun read where you didn't have to think too much, and sometimes it's a nice change! This novel gave me some very similar vibes of The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, which I didn't mind at all. While this wasn't all I had hoped, it had potential and I'll definitely give this author another shot. A fun, twisty thriller!

When the cops pull up outside our modest family home and walk up our lawn strewn with our daughter’s toys, I turn to see the look on my husband’s face, and I know he’s done something wrong. In that moment, I have no idea how bad it is, or that I will end up doing something much, much worse…

Theo is a retired musician who had success many years ago. Now he is house husband looking after his daughter Abby while his wife Carrie works as a lawyer with a very busy job. The body of a young girl is found in a dumpster just outside Theo and Cassie's house and Theo becomes prime suspect number 1.

It turns out that the body of the woman is an old friend of Cassie's, who Theo also spent time with. Cassie decides that she will defend him Theo court, even though she is doubting their relationship and wonders what other secrets may be being held from her. Cassie wonders how much she really knows about her husband and her all consuming thoughts terrify her.

I really enjoyed the book and loved the court room action. This is a fast paced book that is very entertaining and full of suspence in regard to whether or not Theo will be convicted. I highly recommend this to other readers. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review.

Lawful wife I, Cassie, take you, Theo, for my lawful husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death does us part. ...Kane will stretch those bonds for you and have you wondering how far is ‘too far’?

Twisty, good and unpredictable!

Ellery Kane has a firm grasp on the precarious balance needed for suspense writing! She has the perfect combination of excitement and apprehension. I was desperate to know who killed the girl in the dumpster and what would happen to the suspect, but I also wanted that sense of dread and mood that Kane is so adept at creating.

At the core of her suspense is hope; hope that the killer will be caught and hope that the protagonist finds happiness. The internal narrative and conflict drive the plot and add to the stakes, often pitting one hope against the other. Kane manages the ‘hope’ aspect very well.

Her thriller is composed of layers of secrets, each unveiled in flashbacks and specifically designed to have you gasp and think ‘now what?’ as the impact of them hits you. You’ll love the tension and impending doom while, at the same time, wishing for the lawyer to get her retribution. As the suspect’s sentence comes into focus, you suddenly see the irrevocable changes and damage it has the potential to create. All of a sudden you can see both sides of the situation and your allegiance shifts.

Kane has ensured that I’ll be thinking about this story for days to come. I’ll be hashing out motives and trying to figure out if her characters are more heroes than villains or vice versa.

Kane has quickly become an auto-read author for me! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next and am prepared for more thrills, chills, and sleepless nights.
