A brilliant thriller that keeps you gripped throughout, I couldn't stop reading this one until I reached the shocking ending. Full of twists, turns and shocks, loved it!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
Whoa this book is a trip! I loved the twists and turns that kept me guessing. I would definitely read more from this author.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of My Husband’s Lover. I Loved the title and couldn't wait to read the book. I figured out one event at 26% but then it got very slow, then picked up then slow, etc. I was kind of glad when it ended, a few twists and shocking moments but really too slow for me.
I enjoyed this book and whizzed through it in a few days. I did really enjoy the story. Great atmospheric setting. But Sophie, the main character frustrated me somewhat which did leave me irritated. Great story of female friendship and when some friendships aren't quite what they seem.
3.5* rounded up to 4.
I really enjoyed Jess Ryder’s latest novel. It’s a gripping thriller that will grab you from page one and keep you guessing. There’s plenty of twists and turns and a plot that moves at pace. I’d rate this book 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
I was provided with an ARC through NetGalley from Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.
This book grabbed me from the beginning. Sophie is struggling with her husbands dishonesty, so she creates a group for wild swimming. What is wild swimming? Basically the act of swimming in any body of water formed in nature, rather than a pool. For Sophie’s group, their meeting place is a lake. Meeting these women and jumping into the frigid waters brought them close enough they decided to take a vacation together to an extremely remote loch in Scotland.
Very shortly after their vacation began, Sophie finds out she really doesn’t know anyone in her group, or how far her husbands dishonestly really goes. One of the swimmers in her group is her husbands lover. The Who and the why are revealed, but not without shocking twists.
This book was fast paced and kept me engaged. It also left me with a craving to jump into a lake (not a good idea for me- I live in Florida). I will be watching for more from Jess Ryder. She knows how to write a thriller and I expect this one to be a hit.

Sophie is still reeling from the fact her husband Ryan has had an affair. He says it was just sex but Sophie is struggling to forgive or forget especially as he won’t talk about it. Despite therapy. To give her a chance to escape her family life she begins open water swimming. Where for a short space of time she can forget her troubles. She also gets to meet new friends.
The group decide to go away. They find a secluded cottage up north. No electricity or running water. A two hour walk from the nearest road. But a chance to swim in the loch or the beach. Walk in the open air and spend time with others. It’s the first thing she’s looked forward to in months.
Ryan isn’t happy. Especially when she shows him a picture of the group. On the journey up he confides in her that the woman he cheated on her with is in the group. But he refuses to name her.
Sophie must now come to terms with the fact that one of her new friends is her husbands lover. Is she safe or will truths come out.
A gripping read. Until very late in the book even the reader doesn’t know who the other woman is. Will you guess?
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC
Wow, this book exceeded all expectations. I finished reading it in one stretch till the early hours of the morning and it even had me go and check the doors and windows and look through the windows to check that no one is prowling in the yard with a penlight. The descriptions of the loch, the cottage, the beach, the shack, and the paths are so beautiful that I could visualize them as I read without ever having been to Scotland. I highly recommend this book.
Female friends spend a week in a holiday property miles from civilization to go wild swimming, what could possibly go wrong?
A proper who done it in which i changed my mind several times. Twist and turns galore.
Set in Scotland so brilliantly written i could visualize the scene perfectly.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher.
A really enjoyable read.
As my girlfriends and I sip wine and share secrets in the flickering candlelight of our remote Scottish hideaway, we all agree we need this break. Every morning we will swim in icy cold lochs and hike to remote beaches and each night we will sip wine and share stories, cosy beside the log burner. It will be a break none of us will ever forget.
But behind my warm smile, there is ice in my heart. One of my friends is my husband’s lover, and it’s only a matter of time before I discover which one. She thinks she has me fooled, but she’s not the only one with secrets.
I don’t let my smile slip, but as I get closer to the truth, it becomes very clear that in these remote Scottish hills, far from help, someone is going to pay for their lies with their life…
Really enjoyed this book totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture
I just reviewed My Husband's Lover by Jess Ryder. #MyHusbandsLover #NetGalley
“My Husband’s Lover” is a thriller/mystery by Jess Ryder. There’s a lot to like in this book - secluded area without easily accessible outside contact and a group of women who claim to be friends, but are they really? There are a number of twists to this story and it was engaging. What I really liked was that this book is a two person POV - the main character Sophie and “the swimmer,” the person having the affair with Sophie’s husband. It took me a bit of time to get into the story - and at times I felt it was a bit too long - but once I got in, it was a fast read. There were a number of red herrings sprinkled throughout the book, so it was rather fun to figure out “is this a real clue or not?” I was not a fan of Sophie’s husband, Ryan, mainly in that he seemed so “whatever, don’t rock the boat, go with the flow” about everything that it rather drove me to wonder why anyone would want to be with him (but that was kinda the point, I guess). Overall, an engaging read, if perhaps a titch too long for me, but lovely descriptions of Western Scotland were thrown in too.
Good book! This book has suspense, action, intrigue, murder, and a great who done it! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I will definitely recommend reading this one! I really enjoyed reading this book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Jess Ryder is an exceptional author and this novel confirms her outstanding ability to write a story that grabs you and doesn't let you go. The story is so tense and exciting I had to take a Xanax to calm my nerves whilst reading. Impossible novel to put down and read in one sitting. And Wow! What a ride … Deception, revenge, fear and marital affairs all come together to create a brilliant story. Highly recommended read and more than worthy of five stars.
My Husband's Lover is an exciting, page-turning thriller filled with lies, betrayal, toxic friendships, and death. After a long year of couples counselling with her husband, Sophie decides she needs a holiday. Sophie joins her fellow wild swimmers on a week-long digital detox in the Scottish Highlands. However, her holiday soon turns into a nightmare when she discovers that the woman with whom her husband had an affair (the reason for the couples counselling) is one of the swimmers on the trip. The story is told mainly through Sophie's POV; however, there are a few chapters from "the swimmer's" POV, which were some of my favorite chapters and provided necessary background information. There is definitely a lot going on throughout the book - way more than simply "who had an affair with my husband?" Be prepared for lots of twists and turns. I'll not only be recommending My Husband's Lover but also reading more books by Jess Ryder.
This is another fantastic thriller by Jess Ryder. It started slowly but quickly picked up pace and had me racing to the end.
I loved the atmospheric writing and intriguing characters.
The ending was fabulous and brought all the twists together.
A great read and one that I’d recommend.
Sophie and Ryan are having marital problems. He’s had an affair. Her and her wild swimming group decide to go on a secluded trip to Scotland. Halfway there she gets a call from her husband telling her not to go and that one of the women is the one he’d been having an affair with and that she was in danger. Sophie doesn’t want to know who it is and goes anyway.
This was a very gripping thriller and kept me guessing. Thanks NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for this ARC!
