Another great volume filled with even more ridicoulous humour and demon fighting! I am constantly surprised by this series and what unqiue ways the author tells this story. Can't wait to continue.
Such a big fan! I find this a funny parody of the genre. Its so serious about this rooster's quest for revenge. Can't wait for the next ones!
Ok, I'm rating this M for Mature, if only for the bird sex, that is mentioned WAY more than once AND is a plot point, not ONCE, but TWICE. It's also SHOWN on-page and that is NOT something you can un-see once you see it.
I'm not a prude, but really? Is that something that the artist has a need to share with the rest of the world, really?
Other than my old Grandma self that can't seem to understand the joke re: bird sex (I get it, he's a rooster, he thinks with his...sigh), I really did like the story and I really want to know where the demons care coming from. It kind of reminds me of the series by Gini Koch that starts with the book "Touched by an Alien" (SUPER awesome series, I highly recommend it!), so I want to see if it's a similar origin or not.
Also, I didn't realize the little chick was a FEMALE chick. Thought it was a male chick for some reason. That made things...awkward. Though the panel of the rooster, hen and chick all in the hot spring was TOTES ADORBS!!
I do want to continue on with this series, but I really REALLY hope they pull back on the bird sex.
3, I get the joke but don't find it funny can we move on please, stars.
My thanks to VIZ Media LLC and NetGalley for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
It is another helping of the fun dumb action of a super-power rooster now with a posse including a side"chick" and the sidechick. Everything that was enjoyable from the first comes to the second - comedically dramatic flashback sequences, highly-detailed action scenes, and monster lore. In essence, if you want fun, this is the series you have to have.
Another great volume about the demon hunting rooster!
Following the events of the last volume, we are introduced to new characters, new threats, and a sticky situation that could mean the end for our rooster. The new characters bring their own humour to the series, from an adorable little chick and the scorned lover who wants revenge on our main character.
The demon designs are still creepy and terrifying. I'm really curious to see where this series goes, and how it progresses. Definitely a manga worth picking up.
Keiji, the rooster, continues his quest to find the demon who took away his sister. But now he has companion. First there is then little bird with Duty written on her back. Then Elizabeth, a hen Keiji loved and left who shows up with an electric prod and a smartphone! And there are plenty of demons to face - a very strange slug demon that almost took out Keiji, and then the zipper demon that had enthralled a village in a search for buried treasure. But people are noticing the demon fighting group. What danger will this pose in the future? Read and find out!
Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title!
Rooster Fighter is one of those series that hit me by surprise and won’t let me go. This new volume adds a lot more to the package, with a new protagonist to help Keiji as well as some great battle scenes and a surprisingly heartfelt story arc.
While Keiji the superpowered rooster is powerful… he’s still a rooster. After succumbing to injuries, the little chick he rescued in the first volume runs to his aid, trying to nurse him back to help. However, an old flame reappears, initially wanting her revenge. While Elizabeth is a hen scorned, it seems her history with the womanizer (hen-izer?) Keiji has brought them back together. With an electric baton and sassy attitude, she’s a great foil to Keiji’s stoic character.
Honestly, I love this volume more than the first due to how the three main characters interact with each other. They’re basically a family brought together by tragedy, and it’s a genuine treat to see how the characters fight back against the demons. The battle scenes are amazingly drawn, and even as a parody, Rooster Fighter shines as an action manga. This is one rooster you don’t wanna cluck with.
Rooster Fighter Volume Two continues to follow Keiji the rooster as he fights demons during his quest to get revenge on his sister’s killer.
Rooster Fighter Volume Two

The volume opens with the little chick that wants to join up with Keiji following him. A demon appears, but it seems to be a mutated version. Because of the mutation, Keiji isn’t able to defeat it like he normally does. While Keiji does defeat it in the end, he becomes injured. The little chick drags Keiji to safety and nurses him back to health. The little chick (who we learn in this volume is female), ends up accompanying Keiji on his journey, and is given the name “Chicken Little” later in the volume.
Volume Two also introduces a new character: a hen named Elizabeth. She has an axe to grind with Keiji, because at some point before the start of the series, she fell in love with him after he had saved her from a demon. Keiji left her behind after a one-night stand, and now Elizabeth has a broken heart and is out for revenge. But her revenge doesn’t go as planned, and Elizabeth ends up traveling with Keiji and Chicken Little. She may be a hostile ally at times, but she’s determined to exterminate the demons after what she experienced. Elizabeth is really handy to have around because of the smartphone she has, and she shares some information with Keiji that could potentially lead to his sister’s killer.
Remember how I mentioned that Chicken Little is female? This becomes an important fact in Rooster Fighter Volume Two, because she seems to become jealous of Elizabeth. The jealousy is strongest at the times when Keiji and Elizabeth seem to get a little closer.
When Chicken Little is kidnapped by a cat, it’s up to Keiji and Elizabeth to save her. This event leads the main characters to the next storyline in the manga, where a demon has taken over a village. The adults seem to be brainwashed and digging holes, and the children are locked up in a shed. It’s up to the protagonists to save the children and work with them to try to take down the demon and save the adults from the brainwashing. Amidst the seriousness of this storyline, we see that Keiji’s animal instincts are hitting him hard, and Elizabeth uses this to her advantage to get Keiji’s cooperation for the mission. This element adds a brief bit of brevity to what is otherwise a slightly darker and more serious storyline.
The ending of Rooster Fighter Volume Two has a cliffhanger that, at least for me, makes me want to read the next volume of the series in order to find out what’s going to happen next to Keiji, Chicken Little, and Elizabeth.
At the end of the volume, there is a page explaining the Japanese proverbs that are used as chapter titles. This appeared in Volume One as well, but I believe that I forgot to mention it in my review. Each chapter title is a proverb about birds, and I appreciated getting the explanations for the proverbs.
I thought that Volume Two was a strong continuation from Volume One, and I found that I became invested in the story right away. It probably helped a lot that the story, as well as Keiji as a character, were already established in Volume One, so this volume could jump right into the action. While there is some character development, especially with the introduction of Elizabeth, there are still plenty of action panels to help make Rooster Fighter Volume Two a relatively quick read.
I also think that Elizabeth makes for a great addition to the cast. She and her smartphone are both quite handy to have around, even if Elizabeth has her issues with Keiji. She at least understands that she needs to set her revenge aside in order to get done what needs to be done. And I think the character relationship between Elizabeth and Keiji is a great addition to the series. While Chicken Little is cute, I’m not entirely sure how much she’s truly adding yet. Yes, she was the one who nursed Keiji back to health in the early part of Volume Two, but that’s really the most important thing she’s done up to this point. I hope future volumes of the series will find ways to utilize Chicken Little and develop her more as a character.
If you read Rooster Fighter Volume One and enjoyed it, I think you’ll appreciate how the series continues in Volume Two.
I thought I was over the demon wave in manga. Turns out it was just me
Issing a chauvinistic rooster.
I'm honestly not sure why I continue to read this series. It's just ok. The story has just enough substance to keep me hanging on to see what happens. If this goes over five volumes though, I'm gonna get bored. What more can happen in each volume other than, a rooster fights a giant monster?
I'm still not sure how Rooster Fighter got greenlit, but I'm so glad it did. The absurd adventures continue in volume 2, where we learn a bit more about our new characters. The absolutely disgusting (I mean that as a compliment) yet detailed character designs also continue in this volume, and we finally get a sign of what may be the overarching plot of the story that makes it more personal other than rooster vs monsters. Again, this is an amazing read, and I'm glad the publisher and NetGalley gave me the opportunity to get into this when I would not have otherwise.
Loved it - makes no sense but full of heart. And rage. Reminds me of that old Kung Fu TV show where the dud just roams from village to village, helping people out. Didn't expect him to take on a family in this one. Curious to see where it goes.
It is the second volume of Rooster Fighter and you know what? The joke still lands! This volume introduces the love-scorned, smartphone using, hen-fatale, Elizabeth. She, along with the little chick, add a fun back and forth for our wandering warrior rooster. This volume continues to be a fun take on the genre. Help a staving family? Check. Tragic backstories? Check. Lone Rooster basically has a found family now? Check! The story is shaping up to be interesting as well, with more on how the demons work, and the first real glimpse of the main demon he's looking for and his missing sister! I've been recommending this title to other since I read the first one. Volume 2 isn't changing my mind. It works very well as a parody, but it's got enough pluck to stand solidly on it's own.
This book was amazing. It takes the fantastic humor of the first volume and keeps it going. The action is very exciting and well done. This book works very well both as a serious fighting manga and as a jokey parody. I really liked the new dynamic Keiji had with Elizabeth and Chicken Little. I was really interested in the new information we learned about the worldbuilding. Very well done.
