This book was quite addictive. Were there some things that bothered me? Yes, like Callie’s age should’ve been older. But overall I still couldn’t really put this down once I started. I think this book helped to cure a book hangover I had from reading other romantasies. I look forward to reading more books by Laura and I definitely think books like this fit what a lot of readers want. Plus mostly anything with fae in it can’t go wrong these days.

I read this one back when it was originally published and loved it, and still loved it upon my latest reread. Thankfully this time I get to go straight into the rest of the series and not have to wait!
I love the alternating timeline of this one between present day and their original meeting/friendship. Des is so swoony for being the morally grey bad guy, and he's exactly what Callie needs both in the past and present. This is such a quintessential romantasy that if you love the genre, you totally need to check it out!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Thalassa but I’ve heard a lot of hype around her so I gave it a shot. All in all this was a fun time. The world building was a little opaque but richly described. The romance between Des and Callie was well developed through flashbacks and present day and I was definitely rooting for them. I would have liked to see more of Temper and her backstory but there are three more books in the series so maybe I’ll get my wish. I definitely enjoyed this world and will be checking out the rest of the series.

I absolutely devoured this series! I loved it so much, I wish it had more depth though and maybe even another book for added world building. I thought about these characters for weeks afterwards and I still do! Love love love!

One of the best authors I have ever read. I will always recommend her works to my friends, customers, and fellow readers.

I really enjoyed this novel. The magic system is fun and unique. The setting was relatable while still being unique when they travel to the other world. It took me a min to fully get sucked into the story but once I was in I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the characters. Especially the way that they interacted with each other. I found the MC to be a complete badass. And enjoyed her development. I can’t wait to read the next book.

This word Laura has created is fascinating and dark, just as one can expect from the author who created the four horsemen. Des and Callie’s love story is beautifully woven through the pages of a truely unique fantasy tale.

"Bargainer, I would like to make a deal." Callie Lillis, has a problem, she's said those words a few too many times and now the Bargainer has come to collect 7 years later. She knew this day would come eventually. Their relationship has always been complicated, the fae king and the siren, but the debts must be repaid no matter what the costs.

I absolutely loved this book! I loved it so much I bought all the other books in the series. It's not something I would normally read but I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did!

Oh my god. I could not put this book down! I devoured it in one sitting! So dark, sensual, heartbreaking and delicious. Perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas!

An exciting, interesting world full of possibilities with danger and darkness and a Bargainer I would fight the Siren for! Wow! A young woman takes her future into her own hands when she refuses to be hurt anymore by her abuser makes a choice that will changer her life forever. She calls on a man of darkness, full of secrets yet she finds herself compelled by him in a way she can't explain. Night after night she calls to him just to feel safe. Until he leaves and she is left broken again. 7 years later her life seems to be where she wants to be, yet the minute Dev shows up again she is found. Something is happening in his world and he needs her. In more ways than she could have dreamed of. Loved the time jumps and their story. I cannot wait to read more!

Rhapsodic is a Siren-meets-Fae romantasy novel with a pair of MCs that I could read about for days. The book is spicy, with some wicked world building and a plot that kept me hooked right to the end. Definitely a series I'll be continuing!

I very much enjoyed Des and Callie's story. I will definitely be continuing the story. I did feel like the beginning of the book was just the same and went on too long.

I think this fills a niche for me and other readers who are looking for a book that is easy to read, with a hot man who happens to be fae. Is the world building great? No, not really. And the plot itself was a little thin at the end, but, eh. That's how I feel. I do not care.

Received copy of this book (ARC of the new cover) from publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Overall did like this book and will be finishing the series, hope as it progresses it gets better. Do think the new book covers fit the story better, the writing is more new adult vs adult, at times can feel just a bit immature in the dialogue externa and internal Which due to our FMC's trauma can understand how she is a bit stunted in some areas. This book is a single POV and think it would be better as a dual POV including our MMC. Thankfully we do get a backstory book in his POV to slightly make up for this. Really enjoy the FMC's best friend Temper and wish she played a larger supporting role in the story.

I seriously love this book! I am such a big fan of the Fae but this was an amazing take, I also really enjoyed the enemies to lovers.

there's potential but i couldn't warm up to the characters and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Beginning this review is hard because I'm going to be honest, this book leaves you with a big ol' open end sooo, I don't know what's going to happen next. That said, it's a great incentive to read onward to the rest of the series! :)

Callypso has a strange bracelet of black beads around her wrist. Each bead represents a favor owed to the "Bargainer" She goes on about her life until one day the Bargainer decides to come and collect.

There is a past that's explored and an uncertain future for these two. There is excellent world building and it flows seamlessly between two time periods. I'm a huge Thalassa fan and I'm off to read the next in this series!

Well, I thought to give this a chance because the concept sounded interesting, but unfortunately this wasn't for me. I ended up DNFing this at about 30% and it was a bit too weird with the age difference and all the secrets. I felt like there was a lot of manipulation from both characters, so I decided to not keep writing. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I loved to hate this one!
There was every bad trope you could ask for in it. I mean:

Evil fairy King with a good heart
She's a siren with a broken heart
Every man wants her
Nightmare kids
Sexy werewolf cop
A private investigation office run by hot women
Marriage proposals
Wingplay
Court of the Night (hello Rhysand)
Banter
A half forgotten plot.

And the writing was so bad! When our Protagonist finally puzzles together what happens, I physically hit myself with the book. It was so darn obvious.

As I said, bad book, but had tons of fun with it.

Rhapsodic is the first book in the Bargainer series by Laura Thalassa. These books were independently published back in 2015 but seem to be getting a refresh since being picked up by a traditional publisher. This was my first experience reading a book by Thalassa but I've had her Four Horsemen series on my TBR forever.

Callie is a Siren. The book starts out with her standing over her dead stepfather's body trying to figure out what to do. She does the one thing she can think of to save herself; summon the Bargainer. He agrees to help her this one time for free but any other requests will require an IOU in the future. It's been seven years since Des flew out of Callie's life. She has 322 IOU's but he hasn't come back to collect them until now. The rest of the story follows Des and Callie to the Otherworld where Des rules the Fae in the land of Night. There's a bad guy, kidnapping, creepy kids, attempted rape, forced impregnation, wings, pining, and magical creatures.

There were aspects of the story that I really enjoyed. The mutual pining was on point. Switching back and forth between the present and seven years prior helped to build their relationship from loathing, to friends, to eventual lovers. Unfortunately, at times the story was a little cheesy and read more like a new adult novel. Part of that may have been the magical aspects for me. The relationship between Des (a very old magical being) and Callie (who was 15 when their relationship started) felt a little off. The entire storyline of assault and forced impregnation of the coffin women I could have done without. My favorite moments in the book were the quiet ones with watching movies and snuggling. In the end, I enjoyed it mostly but I'm not sure it was enough to continue on with the series.

3.5 Stars
