Give me everything by Christi Caldwell! I absolutely adore books set at sea (blame my childhood obsession with Pirates of the Caribbean), and THE HEIRESS AT SEA absolutely scratched that itch for me. Such a great book!

Perpetually unattached Lady Cassia McQuoid masquerades as a thrill-seeking lad and stows away on a ship bound for open waters. Adventure awaits. Nathaniel doesn’t want to be the Duke of Roxburghe. Instead, the second-born son pursues enemy ships in service of the war effort. But when his older brother dies, Nathaniel embarks on one last mission before he fulfills his ducal duties with an arranged marriage. That’s the intention, until he discovers that his green deckhand is a fetching but vulnerable woman in disguise. Nathaniel’s new mission is to protect Cassia from the perils of the sea, both above and below the water, by sharing the close confines of the captain’s quarters. When I found this arc on NetGalley, I was very excited. I have read several Christie Caldwell's romances and found them a great distraction and a wonderful way to spend my reading time. I am entirely surprised by this story though. Lady Cassia McQuoid has got to be the dumbest historical romance heroine I've ever read. And, since I need to at least like my heroines in a novel, I could barely finish this book. The character of Nathaniel was much more likable and intelligently written. I didn't think it was right for him to end up with Cassia. If it wasn't for the male character, and the plot I don't think I could have finished this book. "The Heiress at Sea" is a lighthearted historical romance. A different location for me, as I'm more used to historical romance novels set on terra firma. There was strong chemistry between Cassia and Nathan, and I was rooting for them as their relationship developed. Strong banter between them. Tropes all the way through - great fun if you love them.

A historical romance with enemies to lovers.
It took some time to finish the book cuz I didn’t get captured right at the start, but when I got through half it picked up.
The beginning was a bit slow but the second half paced up a bit.

An overall enjoyable read, I love enemies to lovers and some adventures.

Through a string of miscommunications Cassia, “Cassius,” joins the crew of the wrong ship. That turms out to be the beginning of the rest of her life. There is seasickness, superstitions, mutany, person overboard, and personal discoveries for both. Nathan discovers he does want he had not felt necessary.

The grand gesture was epic! Nathan puts himself SO FAR out of his comfort zone truly making Cassiaknow that he not only SEES her, but appreciates thevthings she had only seen as enpugh in herself. Ms. Caldwell can deliver grand gestures that are difficult to top.

A romantic-comedy slash adventurous story circles a gentleman, Nathaniel, and a lady, Cassia, in this lyrical book. I enjoyed my reading as it brought laughter to my gloomy self, and how feeble Cassia seems to be as she is indeed, a prim and proper lady. I liked the contrast between Nathan and Cassia, as they come together as lovers. Despite the cringey moments and some unbelievable scenes i taught should be opted out, the chemistry is quite ample to convince me. The plot seems a bit ridiculous, but acceptable in a romcom.

I've read other stories in this series and thought I had an opinion on Cassia. Boy was I wrong. Cassia proved herself to be strong and confident while posing as a boy. Nathan fell in love hard and fast but complimented him well. Thanks for letting me read this book

I stayed up all night reading it!

As a rule I love books set up at sea.

This was enjoyable, fast, feel good read that checks all romance boxes and has good amount of tension.

If you enjoy ships, forced proximity, false identity, sunshine/grumpy trope this one is for you.

Cassia wants some fun before she settles for being a spinster.
Nathaniel never expected, or wants to be a Duke.
Great book.
Story line was great, interesting and different from the usual location.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, which was the first book I'd read by Christi Caldwell. Happy to say that I enjoyed this one as well. It's just what I want (sometimes) in a romance - it's one of those light, fun, frothy reads that doesn't take itself too seriously, yet there are some serious undertones when it comes to family relationships and expectations. This won't be the best fit for readers who require a high level of historical accuracy in their historical romance, nor it is the best fit for those who want a high steam level. But if you're in the mood for a light, fun historical romance that's set on the high seas, give it a try. I'm looking forward to the next installment of the McQuoid family.

Nathaniel Ellsby is the heir to a dukedom, but still the captain of his own ship. That is until his father, the Duke pronounces that he is to cease privateering and take a wife of his choosing, and create the next heir…

He immediately rushes out for one last voyage before settling into his destiny …

Lady Cassia McQuoid is inconsequential within her family. She is neither smart enough or beautiful enough to catch anyone’s attention. She’s decides to dress as a boy and stowaway on her brothers, best friends ship and see the world…. But I misunderstanding with ship names, find her not on her intended ship, but on the ship of the cranky Captain Ellsby.

Hilarity ensues is Cassia is mistaken as a boy, and is unable to perform any tasks on the ship. This does not last long, and soon the gig is up on her disguise, and she’s taken under the wing of her nemesis, the captain.

As with any force proximity, stowaway romance, these two fall for each other relatively quickly and you know somebody is compromised by the time they get off the ship! Full of the standard tropes and action, you expect on a high seas romance, Christi Caldwell manages to still make it fun and fresh.

This book didn’t reinvent the wheel, but it was a lot of fun and had plenty of steam!

This book was at times fun to read. And other times, I skipped portions of it. While the writing was good, the characters seemed tepid to me.

I loved the premise of it, as I lured into the depths of this novel. I enjoyed and adored yeh characters and the plot was interesting enough too!!

I have been provided with a review copy of The Heiress at Sea from NetGalley for an impartial review. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

Unfortunately, I didn’t finish this one. I read over 50% and decided not to continue. I didn’t like how clueless Cassia was. It seemed like she maybe has a learning disability or autism but I wasn’t sure. Was I supposed to think her struggle to figure out basic communication was funny? Was I supposed to laugh at her humiliation? I just wasn’t enjoying it and felt really uncomfortable. I also didn’t feel anything romantic building up and can’t imagine how a romance could possibly develop between her and the captain. He wasn’t terrible, but he had so much disdain for her and I didn’t like it.

Really enjoyed Caldwells nautical Duke adventure. Cassia was such a naive yet sweet character and I adored her bumbling dialogues. Nathaniel is a privateer, I mean, do I need to say more. Lady disguised as a man, on the wrong ship, on a dangerous mission, chaos ensues! Great read and looking forward to reading more of McQuoid family!
