Great little guide making cartoon drawing simple for newbies, an excellent approach which breaks it all down into three simple shapes. Ideal for kids or people who want to gain confidence in their art.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for my review.

Many books on the market advise on how to draw. Why to choose this one?

The author advises looking for three patterns in all objects and shows how to combine them to create own pictures. She displayed that it is no rocket science to draw a human body. A cartoon character calls for some simplicity so that you don't need to draw based on the rules. Nevertheless, the author's recipe still provides us with characters looking realistic.

You still need to practice and practice and practice. But with the know-how from this book, you can see the results soon.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster for a free digital review copy. This is my honest review.

This delightful, colorful, easy-to-read book is perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to draw their own cartoons or comics -- or just to practice with step-by-step projects. By using the shapes of circles, squares and triangles, the author provides plenty of exercises that will help you draw everything from hands and heads to faces and feet.

Circles help make heads (an oval intersecting with a circle), cartoonishly wide eyes, open mouths, fists, bodies, glasses, and whole people. Triangles can be pointy noses, arched brows, long fingernails, high boots, crowns, lapels, hips and jewelry. And squares can help you make a rugged jaw, a pointing finger, body parts, bags, boxes, and ballerinas.

After reviewing this book, you may find yourself seeking out and finding these shapes in everything, which will help you with making quick sketches. I highly recommend this book for all young (or young-at-heart) artists.

Cartooning Made Easy: Circle, Triangle, Square is an odd art guide.

The book has quick pictures of how to turn circles into faces and ultimately entire bodies. It includes how to turn triangles into shoes and both circles and triangles into hands. However, it just shows fully drawn pictures of clothing and accessories like sunglasses with no step-by-step guides. There are only three heads for practice exercises and one dancing couple as an extra credit project at the end of the book. It only covers people though that is not mentioned in the title. It doesn’t seem like enough information for an entire book. I'm also not sure what age group this book is for either.

Overall, Cartooning Made Easy: Circle, Triangle, Square was a 2 star disappointment from a publisher that rarely disappoints.

Thanks to Walter Foster Publishing and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.

Cartooning Made Easy: Circle, Triangle, Square is a beginner manual for drawing simple cartoons.. It is made as easy as possible by using the three basic shapes to develop the characters. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and the book would also be suited to older children. A really good starting place for all budding cartoonists out there.

There was a book my family had when I was young about drawing different cartoon characters based on different shapes. Cartooning Made Easy: Circle, Triangle, Square reminds me a lot of the book, only with more drawing tips and details. I appreciated how easy the steps were to follow and the explanations of how different shapes can be used for different characters, like using more triangles for villains and more circles/ovals for cuter characters. One section I really appreciated broke down how to draw hands from different angles, as hands tend to be one of the hardest things to draw for a human character. Overall, this was a good instructional book for anyone wanting to get into cartooning and drawing.
