I wasn’t sure about this book when I first started it! After a few chapters I was definitely invested. I honestly disliked the main character but the story all tied together and it ended up being pretty good
She was the perfect wife, with the perfect life. You would kill to have it…
And it looks like someone did just that.
Ciara Dunphy has a perfect life. It would seem. Loving husband, well-behaved children, and a lovely home. She is the go-to person for all things mother, style and influencer related. But her hold on the perfection trophy is slipping. She knows it.
Ciara’s bestie, Mishti, has a life Ciara envies. She raises her young daughter on her own in her own way after a divorce from an arranged marriage and Ciara wants that ease. Mishti wants what Ciara has.
Enter Lauren Doyle, Lauren is a hometown girl with kids and a husband. Lauren is the opposite of Ciara. She finally feels that she may have a friend in Mishti.
Then the perfect woman is found murdered in her perfect house made entirely of cards. And everyone is pointing fingers and airing dirty laundry. But oh my the convoluted mess at the end!
I could have whacked Ciara within minutes of reading the book. She is that unlikeable. She is the person on social media that we all hate. Judgemental and screaming perfection while all of her dirty skeletons are climbing out of the closet.
This author is good at creating characters with no moral compass at all. And I think I like that.

Three couples in suburbia, not one person was likeable, and their marriages were all terrible. 'Two of the women were friends but there was no depth to their friendship. Overall a lot of superficial relationships, people using each other. One ends up dead and while I was curious as to the how and why of it, it was hard to care about it. the writing style is easy to read, and i hope her next book , the characters are more relatable.
This sounded so good. I was so excited to read a debut. I really wanted to like it….I really, truly wanted to like it. Talk about characters you just can’t stand from page one. Whiny, immature, obnoxious, and petty … it was difficult to find any redeeming qualities to make you want to root for any of them.
With that being said, I think this author has a lot of potential. I enjoyed her writing style and the character development. As much as I disliked the characters, the author does a great job bringing them to life.
I’m curious to see what she comes up with next.

This debut book by Disha Bose is appropriately called Dirty Laundry for a reason! 3 moms and their spouses live in a suburban neighborhood and all seem to be living dysfunctional lives. There is Celia who is a popular influencer who everyone looks up to. She pretends everything is perfect but it’s far from it. Mishti is from India and is in a pre-arranged marriage. Then there’s Lauren who seems to be an outcast with 3 children. One of them shows up dead, who killed her? This kept me on the edge of my seat even though it moved a little slow in the middle. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. I look forward to more books by this author. To be published April 2023.
Perfect life, perfect life, would could go wrong with that???? Good read and the characters were very relatable.
Dirty Laundry is exactly that. A group of families lived in a neighborhood in a suburb in Ireland. Ciara, her husband and children, live in the largest and most stately house in the neighborhood. Mishima and her husband immigrated to the neighborhood from India. He is a psychologist and University professor. Her daughter was born in Ireland. Finally there are Lauren and her partner, the father of her three children. The novel tells of their backgrounds both the good and the not so good and their lives and truly does deal with their dirty laundry. It is well plotted and well written. Thanks to Net Galley and Ballantine Books for an ARC for an honest review.
First off, I love a novel with unlikeable characters and these were highly unlikeable! Lots of envy, greed, selfishness and the pitfalls of social media are present throughout this book. It was an easy read and fun!
If you're a Desperate Housewives fan (I AM!!) You will not be able to put this one down- then pass it along to your nosy neighbor! Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was immediately intrigued by the summary of Dirty Laundry, but I just couldn't connect with the writing. Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me, though I'm looking forward to seeing if the author's next one is a better fit.
Dirty Laundry by Disha Rose was a story about 3 women and their spouses. One woman Claire was seen as the queen bee, perfect and beautiful. She's a social media influencer that dishes advice about life. She especially shows off her perfect life by posting pictures of her children. However, not every thing is as it seems. She is in a loveless marriage.
Mishti is an Indian lady who is married to her prearranged groom. This couple has one child. Lauren the third woman was seen as an outcast. She has 3 children with her boyfriend. Claire and Lauren seemed to not get along as Claire post passive aggressive content in her Instagram seemingly pointed at Lauren.
Dirty Laundry is a story of how dysfunctional the thre couples relationships were. You also get to see how they each intersect with each other. There is also some darkness below the surface.
On a whole, the story had a great story line. I would perfer if we had more background on Mishti and Lauren. Claire's was definitely seen as very fickle and I wished we had more information in the end. I did not like how it ended. Also Claire's husband is not fleshed out so there was no connection with him.
In summary, I liked the concept but I believe there could have been more character development for some of the players.
Dirty Laundry by Disha Bose is a thriller that kept me captivated enough for it to be a one day read! A neighborhood group of moms appear perfect on the outside, but it are far from perfect behind closed doors. Mishti is struggling in an arranged marriage, Ciara is a successful social media influencer, and Lauren is a townie who has always been an outcast. A crime is committed early in the story, and the rest of the book describes what happens to lead up to it. I was prepared to give the book five stars, but the ending was not for me and drops it to 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.. I am interested in reading future releases by Disha Bose as I enjoyed 90% of this book very much. Thank you to @netgalley and @penguinrandomhouse for the ARC!
This was something different that caught me right from the start. If this is a debut novel, I look forward to more from this author. Grab this and be prepared for one great afternoon read.
Social media influences and Queen Bee Celia is found dead in her Irish village. Turns out many had reason to want her dead as she is a horrible, immature woman stuck in a bullying Mean Girls mindset. But who did it? This novel delves into the unpleasant world these women live in and while I didn't like any of the characters, I did enjoy reading about this toxic world. Thankful for my normal, nice neighbors!
Man, talk about unlikeable characters! This story fell flat for me; more teenage-type drama than I care for in grown women. It didn't feel especially realistic or well-paced, and I found myself skimming a fair bit.
This was easy to read, the characters were described in detail, without the description being "too long" or "too boring", since you as the reader got to know about each one a little more, while the story played out.
In short: They all came alive in my mind, including their looks, habits, and quirks.
However, I would not consider this as a slow burn, because things happened in a fair and timely matter.
Throw one "influencer" in there, a bunch of neighbors - friends as well as foes - and someone dies in the end. But how did they die, why, and who is responsible ?
Well, that's for me to know after I read this story - and for you to find out !
Meaning: Would definitely recommend to read.
On the surface, Ciara has it all; marriage, children, and dream job as an internet influencer. But, what goes on behind closed doors? Ciara has a tight group of friends, other mothers in the neighborhood and she has also welcomed Mishti into her friend circle. Lauren however, another mother in the neighborhood, is not in the “in moms” group and she is often ridiculed and gossiped about. When Ciara turns up dead in her house, some truths will come to light. Behind closed doors, there is so much more happening in this neighborhood including, infidelity and issues with alcohol. Each of the main women in this story have their own storylines, challenges, and successes. It was such an interesting read with good character development. I couldn’t put the book down because I was interested to see what would happen next. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
If you’re one of those who admire what appears to be someone’s perfect life then this book is for you. This had just enough twists and turns to hold my interest until the end which was a bit disappointing. I didn’t like any of the characters but they were all interesting in a variety of ways. This wasn’t my favorite book of the year but for a debut novel I was pretty impressed and would definitely read more. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
Do you ever wonder about those social media influencers who have those oh so perfect lives? Their hair, their makeup, their clothes, their children are always perfect. Is that real life? Dirty Laundry explores the question. Ciara the influencer is the favorite among all the women in her village. Her life is perfect, but is it? No, of course it’s not, but Ciara is willing to do whatever’s necessary to keep up the illusion. And the harder she pushes the more cracks appear and the more her life is on the verge of falling apart.
Dirty Laundry is a good fun read. It’s tight, not always pleasant but definitely worth the effort.
Dirty Laundry builds slowly, but reaches the tensions of the stories and characters as it goes along. There are no good guys, ultimately. It gives a new meaning to the expression, "it takes a village." A mean girls and mean guys twisty tale.
Dirty Laundry was a captivating read, and it kept the pages turning, so unlike many books I didn't end up liking, I finished this one to the end. I ultimately really disliked this book once I finished it. The characters fell fat, there were too many storylines happening at once, and ultimately I didn't feel satisfied with the ending - it was honestly very lackluster. I felt that each of the main characters were either underdeveloped or inconsistent - Ciara was nice, but cynical. She had a social media addiction but we didn't really talk too much about how she felt about her followers. We don't really get to understand why Ciara hates Lauren so much - is it really just about that first interaction, and the fact that she's cheating with her husband? I felt these were unrealistic grounds for a hate that felt so deep, so ingrained in history. Gerry had no purpose other than to be proof that Ciara was cheating on her husband - his little cameo at the end didn't validate the lack of attention this character was given. Lauren was a misunderstood character, but still, we didn't really get much closure on her storylines, and I didn't really understand why we needed all of the back story on her childhood once I got to the end. I would have liked to see more development of her relationship with the O'Brien family. Lauren had violent tendencies in earlier anecdotes in the book but that doesn't extend to her later fallouts with Sean or even with Ciara. I also felt that Parth's character was underdeveloped, I wanted to hear more about how he got to be the way he is, how he got to wanting what he wanted, but maybe that's saved for another book. I would say the best developed character in the book is Mishti, she had a lot of the Indian immigrant archetype I see in a lot of recent South Asian literature. Even so, I wish we'd spent more time about her and dove more into her wants and desires. I feel like a book could easily be written about each of the characters Bose developed, but since we were jumping around too many different storylines, I felt unsatisfied with the conclusion.
