I am an outlier on this book, but it wasn't for me. The plot and characters were all over the place and it was much more a domestic drama than a thriller.
Thank you to Rising Action Publishing and Marie Still for this ARC of We’re All Lying. For a debut thriller in the domestic genre, it was fair. I liked all the characters, however found no depth or follow through on their torrid thoughts. Cass needed to come to her full potential by acting on her dark thoughts. She would have been so much more interesting. Emma was like fluff, added in so everyone could hate her. As far as I’m concerned, I would have been firing Alice for her freakier behavior. She was certifiable. And as soon as I got 10 pages in I knew it was going to be Alice who would be the true nut job of the bunch. I did think it was a heck of a try on a debut thriller, just needed a lot of buttoning up. Looking forward to more from Marie Still in the future. Again, many thanks for the opportunity to be able to read this ARC.
Thank you Marie Still for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I read this as part of a buddy read with a group of lovely ladies on Instagram. I've heard many comments about what an amazing person Marie is, and how she takes the time to connect with her readers. I love when an author takes the time to do that. Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me. The synopsis wasn't reflected in the actual plot, and this was more of a domestic drama, than a thriller of any sorts. All of the characters were deeply unlikeable, but not in a way that seems intentional on the authors behalf.
This book is about a woman named Cass who seems to have it all, a loving husband, two children, a nice home, and a great job at a firm she owns. One day she gets an email from her husbands mistress. She slowly finds out who the mistress (Emma) is and begins to be tormented by her! There is a cat and mouse game throughout the book, didn't even know who the cat or the mouse was though! Emma goes missing but Cass is still being stalked.
The book is told from the perspective of Cass, Ethan (her husband) and Alice (Cass' Assistant). Every single character in the book has secrets and lies! The storyline was great and had lots of potential. Right from the beginning of the book, I disliked all of the characters. They all seemed crazy. The ending of the book was good even if it was a bit predictable. I felt as though some secrets throughout the book could have had more elaborate stories. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was intriguing and a fast read for me! The author did a great job describing the characters and locations.
Thank you so much to @netgalley @risingactionpublishingco @mariestillwrites for providing this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really wanted to like this one, which is why I decided against DNFing it. But I honestly could not get into it. It was a lot less thriller and much more drama. I could not bring myself to like any of the characters and it was a very slow burn. It would have been better for me if some secrets were revealed throughout the books instead of all at the very end, and then it could have led up to a big twist. But instead, the writing almost made me believe there were a lot more secrets than there actually were. The twist at the end was surprising but didn’t really satisfy my desire for a mind-blowing twist. Overall, I feel this author has a lot of potential, but this book just didn’t do it for me. I’m giving this one 2.5 stars rounding up to 3 on goodreads.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rising Action Publishing Co, and Marie Still for providing me with this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book is a fast paced and a drama filled read. It wasn't much of a thriller with the exception of the jam packed ending. It was a fun read kept my attention. I especially liked the ending. Thank you Netgalley and Rising Action Publishing Co. for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
When your picture perfect life is yanked from under your feet what extremes does someone go to in order to gain control? Sometimes things that seem harmless can come back to haunt you and quickly get out of control.
Marie Still’s WE’RE ALL LYING is the delightfully dark thriller you’ve been waiting to sink your teeth into. A cast of characters you know better than to trust, a twist you never saw coming, and an utterly satisfying ending. Still’s debut will leave you breathless.
Bleh 😂 I think I am once and for all going to give up on domestic "thrillers".
They are always the same old diatribe...husband or wife cheats, usually husband. Wife goes nuts and does crazy stuff. Turns out most of it wasn't the wife and is some seriously unbelievable "twist" that is usually predicable. Meanwhile I am bored out of my mind while reading and can't stand ANY of the characters.
We're All Lying wasn't any different. I figured it all out close to the very beginning (minus the one Alice revelation at the very end). I wouldn't have minded that IF the book held my attention but alas ... I was bored and found myself skimming thru parts just to finish this quicker.
For those that love to suspend belief, and really get into all the drama and cray cray, then this book is definitely for you. No judgement here as we all love different books. This genre just isn't for me it seems and trust me I have given it a go.
I do appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own. Really more of a 2.5 rounded to 2.
Cass seems to have it all – a handsome husband, two teenage kids, and a successful advertising agency that she owns with her best friend. It’s all perfect – until the morning she opens a shocking email from her husband’s mistress. Things go from bad to worse as cheating turns into stalking and keeps escalating from there. Everyone has something to hide… including Cass herself.
This domestic suspense story hooked me right away. Multiple POVs alternate between Cass, her husband Ethan, and her assistant Alice. Alice’s vibe is super creepy and really drew me in. The pacing is a bit uneven – starting out strong, losing some momentum in the middle, and then finishing in a big, fast burst of action at the end. Unreliable narrators abound, as you might have guessed from the title. None of these characters are likeable – not even Cass, who you might expect to be more sympathetic as the wronged wife, but I struggled to understand her motivations.
Overall, an enjoyable read from promising debut author Marie Still. Many thanks to NetGalley and Rising Action Publishing Co. for providing me an advance copy of this book.
Thank you Rising Action Publishing Co. and NetGalley for an early copy of We’re All Lying. This was a Great read!!!!! Even though I figured it out early on, I loved how it played out. Very fast reading, it kept my attention and I enjoyed very much. Lots of craziness, which made it more fun to read. A great debut!!!
Thank you Rising Action Publishing Company and NetGalley for an early copy of We’re All Lying. This was a very good debut, I knew who the culprit was early on but it was still captivating!! I did almost stop reading at one point because it got eerie but I’m so glad I didn’t. The characters were an interesting bunch, the husband was a total sleaze. I absolutely Loved the last chapter, Just Perfect!!!!!
This book is phenomenal. From the very first page, I was hooked! I read in less than 24 hours and every chapter had me wishing I could read faster to find the truth. I felt every emotion, from love, fear, heartache, frustration, and suspense. Cass’s story could not have been told better. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a book to immerse yourself into!
I do enjoy a good domestic thriller. All the lies and cheating… makes for a fun story. This one started off really well and I was intrigued. Unfortunately it didn’t continue for me.
This was a fast, page turning book. But it was somewhat predictable and the ending didn’t surprise me. Maybe I have read too many of these kinds of thrillers now, but I picked the who and why quite early on. It was a shame as I had high hopes for a juicy story of betrayal.the characters were so unlikeable and there wasn’t enough from the husbands point of view.
Thanks to Rosing Action Publishing Co for the advanced copy to read. Publishes on March 14th.
I wanted to read this one chapter at a time, but started with the first chapter and from there it was off to the races with Cass. With jaw-dropping twists and characters you alternately question and root for, this book was unputdownable. I loved the narrator voices, and found myself wanting to know about Cass’s cheating husband, Ethan.
This thriller hijacked my weekend and I entirely blame the author for hooking me and then not letting go till I turned the last page with a sigh. I want more — take my money already!
Huge thanks to Netgalley for my advance copy of this addictive and propulsive thriller. I’ll be watching this wonderful new author with interest.
We're All Lying is a terrifying thriller with twists up to the very end. It seems obvious who the bad guy is but there is such a surprise.
Thank you for the digital review copy.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing this ARC to review!
Cass has a handsome husband, two great kids, and a successful career? What could go wrong?
Cass receives and email from her husband's mistress. She is shaken to her core. That is where the fun begins.
Nothing is as it seems in this twisty thriller! You do not know who or what to believe!
The story and characters were very engaging. I could have shaken Cass a few times regarding her decision making, though.
The book kept me enthralled from start to finish. I would definitely read more books by Marie Still.
I appear to be an outlier on this book, but it was not for me. Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review
Thank you so much to Netgalley & Marie Still for the e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I’m going to keep this one short & simple: this book was just ok. I found all of the characters to be super unlikable (especially the main character, Cass), the twists were extremely predictable, & overall, the drama could’ve been resolved if Cass had just left her cheating husband Ethan from the very beginning. I also felt there were some things that could’ve been elaborated on a little more such as Ethan & childhood.
If you’re looking for a quick read with a psychopath main character, add this to your list.
Infidelity, stalking, and a murder - great ingredients for a fun and twisty thriller debut! I think a lot of people will love this book, but for me it was a bit of a disappointment because I figured out all of the twists (and the ending) other than one twist. And the one twist I didn't figure out wasn't that exciting (in my opinion). I also had a hard time connecting to or liking any of the characters - they all had a variety of somewhat annoying characteristics.. But I loved the various POVs, especially having Ethan be one of the narrators. I would definitely read another book by this author. Thanks so much to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC!
