I enjoyed this book so much! Who doesn't like a self-help book, especially one for women?
As a woman in the medical profession, I AM always asked to work extra, do more, and help more, and this book has helped me establish healthy boundaries without feeling guilty.
In the introduction, she discusses how society has not reached women and how to set boundaries. Even if we learn how to lead, save lives, and teach others, there are no classes for women to be/become a BOSS LADY who puts herself first in any situation.
I can't wait to own a physical copy of this, def. I will be annotating many things in this book.
Brave Boundaries is definitely one of the best books on boundaries I've read. I enjoyed the author's narrative voice and I think it would be a helpful book for professional women who are also mothers or homemakers who homeschool, or those kinds of blends of working life and home life, if that makes sense. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book.
I started reading this book with anticipation because the topic is really interesteing and I heard about Dr. Shillcutt's work in this field, but unfortunately I found the book quite redundant and not so to the point. I felt as if it was really personal and could not find so many useful self-help guidelines. I found it informative and it gave me some inspiration tho (the boundaries checklists are useful especially if you're not used to introspection or if you don't go to therapy) and I appreciate that.
This book is wonderful, it has loads of tips to set healthy boundaries and shows us how the society's image of women is unfair. Women are expected to do more without any acknowledgement, or pay. There were many facts at appropiate paragraphs, which I liked a lot as the underlined the paragraphs nicely. I think every women should read this book, but also men. So they would understand the difference between the expectancy of women and men, and how women are always expected to say yes.. It might be terrifying to set boundaries but this books will help you a lot. I completly recommend this book to everyone, even young people.
This book provides a helpful guide to setting and maintaining boundaries. Shillcutt obviously has personal experience with setting -- and not setting -- boundaries, and those experiences plus the experiences of countless others in her community inform the lessons in this book. I've already found myself setting better boundaries, communicating about them more clearly, and more.
Dr. Shillcutt has a beautiful way with words while also teaching an amazing lesson about protecting physical and mental health while providing opportunities for joy and growth. Easy read with great information. A great book about boundaries, empowerment and being your own advocate
I thought this would be more about boundaries in general, but it focused mainly on setting boundaries at work and home specifically for women who struggle with balancing their work and home/motherhood obligations.
For the LONGEST time the leading book on boundaries has been by a Christian which absolutely blows my mind. Brave Boundaries takes an approach divorced of Christian Folk Tales and applies logic and psychology to the proof that boundaries will lead to a healthier, happier, longer life! Boundaries WILL save your life.
I love books like these! It really gave me insight into things that I do without thinking and how to set the boundaries I so desperately need to set. This book provides encouragement and tools for being confident in your decisions and standing firm in your boundaries. I would highly recommend.
This is a great book if you feel overwhelmed at times by other people's requests and/or expectations of you. Boundaries are difficult for many of us who have not been taught how to make and use them. "Brave Boundaries" provides a different mindset and encouragement that creating boundaries is the most empowering way to live. Highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC>
