This a perfect book for someone looking to learn more about cocktails and how to make them at home. I had a blast with some of my friends doing those at sleepovers or small parties. It's very easy to make them, especially since most of the cocktails don't need a lot of ingredients or utensils. I really enjoyed the small tips and twist Faith would give us to either enhance the aromas or to modernise the drink.
I will definitely keep using it in the future for more gathering with family and friends !!
Cocktails anyone? After reading this book, I feel as I could make the drinks in this book. There are cocktails that I have not heard of . I enjoyed learning about the bit of history she gives with each drink. It makes for interesting conversations while drinking that cocktail. The information about setting up a small bar for drinks is so very helpful as I never knew all the things she suggested. She arranges the cocktails by the main liqour used. She also suggest which cocktail for different occasions. She does include a brief bibliography. There is a chart on volume equivalents. I found it very helpful to have an index so if you know the name of a cocktail, you can find the recipe for it. The pictures of the cocktails with their recipes was an excellent idea. I am definitely happy to say that the cocktails I made are delicious and not hard to make. I found this book to be delightful and delicious. I also have much more respect for bartenders making drinks as I never really thought about all the different cocktails there are to make.
I loved this book of classic and new cocktails. The book described the different tools a good bar set-up requires. It explained the different glasses and liquors. The recipes were for classic cocktails and offered ways to make them slightly different. The lists of ingredients were manageable. I enjoyed reading the different recipes and will definitely use the recipes.
A great mix of cocktail recipes — includes some classic ones that are harder to find recipes for! The photography is also fantastic.
"Classic Cocktails Done Well" is a must-have for any home bartender looking to perfect their craft. Written by Faith Hingey, the book is a comprehensive guide to creating classic cocktails with ease and precision. The book is organized by the main type of spirit used in the cocktail, making it easy to find the recipe you are looking for. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow, and the book includes a variety of recipes, from the classic French 75 to the more obscure Doctor Funk. Hingey's recipes are simple to follow with beautifully captured photos to help you achieve just the right crafted cocktail look yourself. It's a great introduction to the world of classic cocktails and a fantastic resource for anyone looking to improve their home bartending skills. I highly recommend it.
Awesome read! I've always been curious about cocktail making, so this was a no brainer for me to read. First of all, the photography in this book is so beautiful! And I really appreciate that there is a photo for every recipe, as the presentation is important, especially for beginners. Other than that, the book is very well written and contains every piece of information one might need to begin their journey in cocktail making, including different techniques and equipment. There are a ton of recipes in the book so there is definitely something for everyone, and I also really appreciate the categorization of recipes by occasion and inclusion of volume equivalents at the end of the book. All in all I think that it's a very useful book that would make a great gift for anyone interested in cocktails. I would definitely recommend it! Thanks to NetGalley and Zeitgeist for providing me with a copy.
I have a number of cocktail and bar books; this one is not my favorite. It would be GREAT for beginners who want opinions on what bottles and brands to purchase to set up a bar. The opening discussion of cocktails in America is interesting and the list of needed equipment is spot on and includes pictures of what you will be looking for in a store. Gin, whiskey, brandy, and rum recipes are featured, with an “other spirits and liquours” chapter rounding out the list. This is fine for starter home bartenders for quite a while. Enjoy!
I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book to review.
A great, informative book...filled with recipes, information about different styles of drinks, the appropriate glasses for each one & so much more!
I appreciate how the book is laid out & sorted by different spirits such as gin, brandy, etc so it's easy to find what you're looking for.
Also includes a helpful list of equivalents & index at the back so you can easily find any & all of the drinks! A great resource have for the home bartender.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great book for those looking to make delicious cocktails at home! The book breaks down the basic tools, glassware, and spirits to build a good home bar. The cocktails are great and accompanied by beautiful photos as well as hints or variations for the drinks. If you are someone who already has a good knowledge of cocktails and has other cocktails books, I don't think this fills any gaps in what you would have/know how to make. However, it would be great for beginners who want to expand their repertoire and would also make a great gift!
Thanks to NetGalley, Zeitgeist Publishing, and Faith Hingey for an advanced copy of the book. All thoughts in this review are my own.
This was a really cool and handy book! I had a good time making these drinks and even learned their history. The author did a good job of compiling information and providing it in a pattern that made sense but never was overwhelming or boring to look at. Sometimes I feel personal anecdotes or history in a cookbook or mixology book can be annoying, or even useless, but the context this history provided was really great and enjoyable.
75 classic cocktails done well. That’s it! That’s the review!
Faith Hingey organizes what could be just another cocktail recipe book into something useful and down-to-earth that every novice home bartender should include in their resources. With pictures and easy to understand recipes, broken down by main ingredient and the classics, made me want to expand my bartending skills.
The only thing I would add as a drawback is that I read this on a Kindle and you definitely lose the aesthetics of this book and the pictures in that. I would absolutely recommend picking this up in “real life”.
Thank you to NetGalley, Zeitgeist, and Faith Hingey for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to both #NetGalley and Zeitgeist for providing me an advance copy of Faith Hingey’s cocktail recipe book, Classic Cocktails Done Well, in exchange for an honest review.
#ClassicCocktailsDoneWell is an apt title for a book explicitly written for the at-home bartender. Gorgeous photos of timeless cocktails gloss the pages, or in the words of the author,
Classic cocktails provide a window into the past. Consider the underground bar, the hidden bar behind a rotating bookshelf, or the windowless bar decked out in nautical adornments. These charming places provide a glimpse of life in another era, where drinking a storied libation is really a form of time travel.
Such an evocative quote! 🤩 The chapters are divided by types of liquor. Unfortunately, there is no chapter dedicated to vodka, so I had to deduct one star. Other than that, super interesting and informative #cocktail work!
Christmas starts here ! A well written selection of cocktails suitable for anytime ( but especially Christmas) . Will practice a few to serve at our Christmas celebrations, Cheers !
I am not a big imbiber of alcohol myself but I love knowing how to whip up good cocktails for friends and family. This was a well put together cookbook full of good recipes to know for popular drinks. Great photos too with clear recipe instructions.
**thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review.**
Classic Cocktails Done Well is filled with great recipes for tons of classic cocktails. I enjoyed how each recipe included a little blurb of the history of the cocktail. Sometimes in these types of books the tools are listed and explained at the beginning, so I enjoyed that each recipe had the list of tools you would need for that specific cocktail. It made it easy to prep before beginning to craft the cocktail! The book was broken into sections based on the type of alcohol that was in each cocktail. Classic Cocktails was filled with recipes for classics that most people will recognize and recipes for classic cocktails that are less well known! The recipes were easy to follow! A great short read for the cocktail enthusiast.
I do enjoy a good cocktail on occasion and the classics are classic for a reason. This book really walks you through the basics before the first recipe. I enjoyed the history behind the drinks as well. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to mix a drink.
An excellent book containing all those classic cocktails. The beautiful pictures entice you to try these amazing drinks!
This is a great little book for anyone who enjoys a cocktail!
The recipes for each and every cocktail are easy to follow. They are accompanied by beautiful photography which illustrates the cocktail and how to garnish it.
Where the recipe that calls for syrups such as simple syrup or honey syrup, elsewhere in the book gives easy to follow instructions on how to make these syrups.
For anyone who has decided they want to set up a home bar, this book will tell you the basic tools needed without going overboard. Likewise, it divides the cocktails by their base spirit. Thus, if you like a gin based cocktail or a whiskey based cocktail, all you have to do is buy a bottle or two of the suggested spirit.
A great guide on how to make the standard repertoire of classic cocktails. I liked the fact that the author included some history behind the drinks and how they came into being, as well as providing a photo of every cocktail. A good book to have at hand when you need help or inspiration for the perfect drink.
This is an excellent primer on classic cocktails. Almost all cocktail recipes are accompanied by a picture and there is a short explanation of each cocktail, often with a brief and interesting origin story. The instructions are clear. It’s good to have a solid foundation of classic cocktails and this provides that while being interesting as well as informative.
