Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard is the first book in the Missing in Alaska series. Police Chief Autumn Long is being harassed by a town counsel member in her home town of Shadow Gap, Alaska. He wanted his nephew to be named chief instead of Autumn. But with wanted International criminals in town causing havoc that's definitely the lessor of Autumn's problems. Then there's Grier Brenner, a stranger in town who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Combine those things with the fact Autumn and Grier are attracted to each other and you have the makings of a super romantic suspense story. This is edge-of-your-seat suspense with lots of action. I really enjoyed this book.

Kudos to author Elizabeth Goddard who correctly titled the medical personnel at the local hospital physician assistants. Too often the incorrect title physician's assistants is used.

Set in Alaska where some people go to disappear Police Chief Autumn Long is dealing with a string of murders. Grier is there to disappear but ends up helping Autumn but at a possible risk to himself. The book is full of twist and turns and at times I had to go back and reread to catch up.

Cold light of day is a book with mysteries abounding and keeps you turning the pages until you reach the end. The story contained interesting side characters with their own backstories which added to my enjoyment.

The only thing I would say is that one of or two of the storylines were a little bit easily tied up - I know there's only a certain number of pages but a sentence or two (and this is hard to explain without giving spoilers), would give the stories a little more depth. That said, I did enjoy the book and I will be making a recommendation that it appears in my library.

I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.

Elizabeth Goddard keeps getting better with every book! Her latest novel, Cold Light of Day is a fast-paced, heart pumping ride that readers of suspenseful Christian fiction will enjoy.

The main character, Autumn Long is the police chief of a small Alaskan town. Her father was the chief before her until he was injured and Autumn intends to continue his legacy of excellence. Grier Brenner hasn't lived in Shadow Gap long, but he would be content to live the rest of his days in this quiet town. When suspicious things begin to happen in Shadow Gap and people start dying, Autumn isn't sure who to trust. She feels she can trust Grier even though she knows he's hiding something. Grier knows that he is supposed to be hiding out but Autumn is alone in this fight and needs his help. So with the body count increasing and the town board about the fire Autumn as chief, she and Grier team up to defeat this unseen foe and keep Shadow Gap safe.

I enjoyed reading Cold Light of Day very much. Autumn and Grier are great characters and the plot line is first rate! Goddard is very talented and I look forward to reading her future books.

This is a riveting, gripping page-turner! If you are a fan of Christian romantic suspense, this is the book for you! From the first page, you will be hooked on this facet-paced, action- packed thrilling story.
Police Chief Autumn Long took over the job of Chief when her father, the former, long-time Chief of Shadow Gap, a small town in the Inside Passage of the Alaska panhandle, retired. Returning from an overnight trip to Anchorage for a meeting, she was now on the last leg of her trip home on a bush plane, piloted by a local pilot, Carrie James. As they flew over a body of water, Carrie points out that someone is in the water frantically waving. As they fly in closer, they notice someone else is swimming out toward the person. The woman is saved and Grier, a newcomer to Shadow Gap, becomes a hero.

Grier Brenner moved to the remote area to hide out while clearing his name of a serious crime he was wrongly accused of. According to the locals, he arrived in Shadow Gap a few months earlier to fish in the Salmon Derby and as occasionally happens, he was one of the tourists who decided to stay in their friendly, welcoming little town.

Rescuing a drowning woman wasn’t the last heroic endeavor as several other criminal activities surfaced in this small, peaceful town, including murder and kidnapping. Grier can’t help but get involved with offering help to the Chief in solving the onslaught of unexpected criminal activity that is occurring in this generally peaceful town.

The strong cast of characters are well developed including the intriguing locals, to felons’ intent on their devious acts. This is a book that is difficult to put down until the last page is turned.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed and comments are my own.

This book does not disappoint!
There is mystery, suspense, and intrigue from the very beginning.
Why is small town Alaska suddenly dealing with multiple murders? Who all is keeping secrets?
This fast paced read will have you turning the pages to the very end.
I highly recommend this book!

His uncle telling him to come to Alaska, the world is at your feet, fish, hike.
His snowmobile got stuck, no cell, the path was soon covered with fresh snow.
Lost, his need to survive, when a shot brought his attention, and then murder.
The new police chief, between the city counsel, budget cuts, they didn’t think she was needed, not enough crime.
Grier risking life or limb to save a woman in freezing water. No boat and not wearing proper clothing. The chief instinct telling her he was trouble, or was it just a personal feeling.
Once again the author has given us a chilling look into the land of Alaska, the magic, and how one could easily vanish. Readers will love this story, and the characters from the first page you are swept into surviving.
Given ARC for Revell and Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Cold Light of Day of Elizabeth Goddard is a romantic suspense novel featuring characters in Alaska. I love the concept of Alaska with the wilderness and no one around for miles. I would love to live there. Anyways, Cold Light of Day features Autumn Long, the police chief, in this small town. She has followed in her father's footsteps by becoming the police chief. She fights the stereotypes and wants to make a name for herself. Along the way, she meets obstacles that want to stop her from succeeding. With a dead body showing up on the scene, she encounters Grier. A hero who is running from his past. The characters move around in the nicely written scene. Goddard does a wonderful job at telling her story. As for the plot, I wanted more dead bodies or action. It was a pretty tame suspense novel. Many moments of why are we still thinking about this. Why isn't there life in more danger? Similarly, the romance was not top priority, which I highly thank Goddard for doing, but then the hero and heroine fall in love, and I did not believe. Overall, Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard has the potential to be a pretty awesome series, but as for the suspense element, it was lightly covered.

I received a complimentary copy of Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard from Revell Publishing but the opinions stated are all my own.

What an excellent book! It’s a great mystery, with many hidden secrets and twists and turns. It’s an emotional romance, with two people searching for answers and finding unexpected attraction and support with each other. I liked getting to know the characters of Shadow Gap and very much look forward to reading more in this series!

She's police chief with a city council trying to oust her. He's a newcomer to the small town, ad he's got skills and secrets. When criminal activity uncharacteristically ramps up, there's increasing pressure on her to unravel the mystery, but his secrets and those yet to be revealed, prevent the truth from coming out, until it does.

Here's a suspense story that will keep you guessing, and if you've enjoyed her previous novel, you're sure to enjoy this one as well.

It didn't quite check all the boxes though for me. Their relationship felt forced with a lot of mistrust. that simply evaporated and an ending that just seemed too predictable.
