I'll admit that I knew nothing of the real Prancer before reading this but if you put a cute dog and the word demon together you have my interest. This was a really cute quick read. The art is adorable and honestly, to me Prancer seems like a total sweetheart, he's just got a lot of spirit.
I'd recommend this for anyone who loves dogs (children, adults).
Due to the books length I'm not really sure how else to review this, I may come back and be a bit more detailed later.

Everyone is going to love Prancer the Demon Chihuahua. He’s got BDE (get your mind out of the gutter, it stands for Big Dog Energy, of course!) Everyone loves him including Ariel his victim, er, owner. She loves him even though he likes leaving surprise puddles in unusual places like her shoes and her bed.
Sure, Prancer may have his faults, but every chihuahua owner will recognize his traits—those both annoying and endearing. Children will also adore Prancer. So be careful who you let read Prancer the Demon Chihuahua as it may cause your children to insist on a little Prancer of their own. 5 stars!
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for a digital review copy of the book.
If this title doesn’t make you crack up, you’re wrong. We all know that one little dog that is just a menace, and this one will have the little ones buckled over in laughing (and also wanting a dog if they don’t have one – be warned). This one is completely interactive and has jokes, activities, and more, to keep the kiddos busy and entertained while having fun and book in hand. The story is based on the real life pup Prancer, who was originally advertised as lovable, gentle, etc….. but this story is all about the real Prancer, in and the his demonic ways. This one is hilarious, with a section entitled “why cats are the worst” and a playlist of Prancer’s: Push It by Salt N Puppa, Love Yourself by Justin Beagle, Basenji Rhapsody, Hey Yorkie! By OutKat, and Someone Like You by Akita. Another favorite: Break Free from My Leash – Ari-yawn-a Grande. This one is precious and fun for child and adult alike.
As an owner of the best lady chihuahua in the world, there were quite a few of Prancer’s fun facts that I found quite amusing. I lucked out, my lady is missing her demonic half but having known other chihuahuas, the less wonderful qualities are stereotypes for the breed for a reason.
I was expecting more activities based on the description, and I did find some of the pages to be quite redundant, but overall this was a fun read.
Would recommend to any chihuahua/most small dog breed owners, and of course fans of Prancer himself.
For anyone who's had a Chi, groomed a Chi, looked at a Chi the wrong way- this is a pretty spot on representation thanks to Prancer!
Hilariously written and explosively honest- Prancer is the poster child of how Chih's get their reputation.
I never judge a dog breed, I've seen MEAN golden retrievers and Shih Tzus and SWEET AS PIE Chihs but they are absolutely a breed that needs proper socialization, exercise and an owner just like Ariel who will love them for their spiciness and also continue to work with them on being open to change.
Very cute and fun book- loved the puns, the stories, the pictures- A++ and so glad Prancer found THE BEST home (and VICTIM) for him!
Review to come to blog/goodreads/other places in January 2023 closer to release day.
I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I was instantly drawn in by the title. I am sorry, but demon chihuahua? Sign me up! I needed to know more about this cute puppers!
And this was a very fun book told from the POV of the dog, Prancer. We read about his likes (bacon/egg/cheese sandwiches) and dislikes (cats, 100% cats), we read about plans against his victim, um new owner Ariel, we get fun quizzes and fun jokes. There are tons and tons of adorable illustrations and a handful of photographs. I laughed, I giggled, and I liked that we also got some personal stories about things that happened. I don't know Prancer, but I feel like I have learned just a bit about him.
However, I would have liked just a bit more about Prancer. I still don't fully get why he is famous or why he is a demon. Sure, he does some bad things, but to call him a demon? I just didn't see it. I think it would have helped if the book was a mix. Part told by Prancer and then part by the owners/the shelter. Now it just felt very one-sided. We are just to believe he is a demon.
And I would also have liked some more photographs. The illustrations were supercute and I liked them, but photographs would have completed it for me. Especially since we read that Prancer loves modelling. Show me some of those cute outfits! Show me the prancing! Go!
SO yeah, good things, and some things that I feel could be improved. I did enjoy the book but I sadly just cannot read it very high. 2.5 stars is all I can give.
