This is a sweet story - despite the title and character names, the story is not a re-imagining of P&P. The Austen inspiration comes through in the characters' interest in her novel.
For the romance fans: this is a clean, insta-love-y story. The main character kept putting off the relationship, which was frustrating for me. The MMC is all-in and leans more towards golden-retriever energy than bad boy.
Although not my favorite tropes, I had fun reading. I would have liked to see more personality in the love interest: his main function seemed to be loving Charlotte. I was also intrigued by the B-story between the main couple's siblings, but it had no conclusion. Maybe the author is planning spinoffs? I would read one for Beth and Rhett - that's a love interest who seems more my type (morally gray).
Thanks to Stockton, the publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Cute book! I loved the references to Jane Austen and Pride and Prejudice, although there's not really a direct tie-in/retelling of the story, though the focus is less on Darcy and Elizabeth's relationship and the peripheral character of Charlotte Lucas and how the modern-day Charlie desperately wishes to not end up like her namesake in the famous book. The main characters are both a little older (late 20s) and have had their own struggles with finding romance. I loved spunky neighbor/grandma Vera and Charlie's younger sister Mariah and would have even loved to see a bit more of both of them than what was featured. I enjoyed the humor and how all the characters come together in different ways/situations throughout the book. There's nothing surprising or any twists to the plot, but it's a very enjoyable, clean, fun, light read!

Charlotte Lucas has the unfortunate luck of sharing a name with the pitiable character from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

When her elderly neighbor asks her to go on a blind date with her grandson, Charlotte can't say no. When Liam Connell shows up, he is full on main character material with a movie star ex-girlfriend to match, and way out of her league. Charlotte likes to play it safe in the background. Will Charlotte find the courage to become the main character in her own life?

A charming romance with wonderful dollops of Jane Austen inspiration throughout in this fresh read about love and believing in yourself. A clean romance, with a likable heroine, and a wonderful cast of characters. I adored Vera and her matchmaking ways!

Overall, a quick enjoyable read for fans of clean romance and Austen-inspiration. Full of heart, and sure to bring a smile to your face.

This story, loosely based on characters from Pride and Prejudice, was a fun read. It was fun to have the twist where the main character shared a name with Charlotte Lucas instead of Elizabeth Bennet. I think this allowed the author to have more leeway in her story, so it was much more original than many other Pride and Prejudice retellings.

Liam was everything you want in a MMC. I had a harder time relating to Charlie, the FMC, and choices she made that I didn’t think weren’t fair to Liam. However, the author did use these choices to help her grow by the end of the story, so despite my frustration with her, they probably needed to happen.

Well that was just utterly adorable! It was a quick and fun read, finished it in one afternoon. It checked all the boxes that I love in a closed door contemporary romance.
-Plenty of P&P references.
-Blind date to friends to lovers 🥰. Great banter and Swoony kisses.
-A set of delightful side characters.
I’d love for Charlie’s BFF Beth to get her own story 🤞🏻.

Fantastic, Fantastic, FANTASTIC!! There was so much to love about this one! The adorable romance, charming Liam who helps the Charlie see how amazing she is, the swoony moments and living out dreams. Kasey turned a classic romance, Pride and Prejudice, took a character who’s not often highlighted and developed a beautiful story around it, incorporating the theme into so many aspects of this novel. I truly loved this one and I think she totally nailed it!

*I received an ARC of this novel but all opinions are my own.*

I’m Not Charlotte Lucas is a fun contemporary rom com with lots of nods to Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice.

I really enjoyed this book! There were many moments when I laughed, swooned and cheered for the characters. I like that there were lots of similarities to Pride & Prejudice without it being a full retelling. It made it relatable without being predictable. I mean what reader doesn’t love a tall dark handsome guy and a Jane Austen loving girl?

I loved the meet cute and how genuine Liam always was with Charlie, even when she was in denial about her feelings. I love that he’s the one who finally inspired her to start painting again. Liam and Charlie are just so good together and I love that they just kind of click! I do wish Charlie would’ve come around faster and hadn’t been so hasty to break up when they had a disagreement. But overall they’re just swoony and have great chemistry!

I liked the plot and the variety of conflicts. I felt like they made the people feel real. They both made mistakes and acted on assumptions and they shouldn’t have, but that’s a challenge most couples face. I really felt for Charlie and understood why she was so upset with Liam at the height of the conflict, but I kind of wish it had worked out differently. Of course we get a happily ever after, I just expected to go differently.

I loved that although Liam technically fits the millionaire role he was so genuine and modest and didn’t try to throw his money around to win Charlie’s heart or to try and make his brother like him. He had money, but he didn’t act like it was his defining feature. He was just a normal guy using his resources to help kids learn to read. Which I think is awesome!

There were a lot of side plots and details in this story that definitely made the characters more complex, but I wish some of those plots had been explored more. Like Teaching United, or Liam’s relationship with his brother, or the conflict between Liam’s brother and Charlie’s sister. I would’ve loved to see Charlie get involved with Liam’s humanitarian work! It would be so cool if she taught art to the kids he helps! I liked that these other plot lines made the characters more robust, but wish they would’ve been explored more.

Overall this was such a cute story! I really loved the characters, the chemistry, the references to pride and prejudice, and the unique plot. There are a lot of aspects of the story I would’ve loved to see more of, but overall I really enjoyed this story!

This was the perfect book to get me out of my romance novel slump. It was a quick read and I absolutely adored every Pride and Prejudice reference. I thought the plot flowed well too and I never found the story dragging. Liam was INCREDIBLE and literally one of the best book boyfriends. He wasn't perfect, but he felt real and I found him super thoughtful and sweet. Charlie was a little over the top at times, but she pulled it together in the end. Would definitely recommend to clean romance fans.

I have to admit, at first I was trying to remember who Charlotte Lucas was in the Jane Austen books, but then it clicked. I loved how Charlie was a lover of Pride and Prejudice, the Office, ice cream, diet coke. Now that's a realistic character! This book was BEAUTIFUL! I think we can all relate to Charlie on some level. She's always giving to others, is afraid of her dreams and rejection, and compares herself to others. We all do a little of that. But then Liam. Oh, Liam 😍 He sees and points out the best in Charlie. He pushes her to be better. He's the MC of all of our dreams. ❤

I absolutely loved this fun romcom. Charlie Lucas loves Pride and Prejudice, but is also terrified of ending up like he namesake, Charlotte Lucas. Charlie is down to earth and relatable, and Liam is the perfect book boyfriend. I also liked that Kasey Stockton references Pride and Prejudice, without making this a retelling.

incl was swoony!! if you are a fan of pride and prejudice this book is for you, because it goes heavy on the references and the style is reminiscent. i wasn’t the biggest fan of charlotte as a main character, but she was still a decent character to read. liam was the swooniest from the beginning!! overall, this was a nice read with a sweet romance!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

Charlotte "Charlie" Lucas, is a woman determined to avoid spinsterhood like her Austen namesake. She is back living in her parents attic, working a flexible job, and taking care of her family and neighbour. When her neighbour talks her being a blind date for her grandson at a charity ball, Charlie finds herself wanting more than the sensible life she is settling for.

The romance in this story is often held back by Charlie's own self-doubt, but the kind, gorgeous, and rich Liam comes through to show her she is worthy of her dreams.

If you like your romance with frequent pride & prejudice references (movie AND BBC series) then check it out.

If there was ever a book that needed to be photographed with cherry blossoms, it's I'm Not Charlotte Lucas. I read this beauty months ago and I absolutely adore it so much! Honestly, I have been wanting this #bookstagram photo since I stepped foot onto Japanese soil. My patience has paid off I think. ( Even though I have my painter's sweatshirt on, I-feel-creative-today outfit).

I was beyond thrilled to see what Kasey Stockton was going to do with this plot and characters. She definitely combined my expectations of a comfort read and yes-I-feel-this character-wholedheartedly! Like Charlotte, I also feel the weight of being named after a literary character. Being a Ruth and a Charlotte Lucas... geez can't we be the OG of OGs??!!! Nope but we certainly make our own way and talents.

Overall, this book was a pleasure and I will be rereading it soon 🥰

Sincerest apologies to Kasey for my need for this picture and having to wait for a book review. 🤣🤣 I can't be tamed.

Thank you to Net Galley and Covenant for the ARC.
I’ve read a number of Jane Austen-inspired books and retelling; I’m Not Charlotte Lucas manages to bring something fresh to the table with its focus on side character Charlotte and a twenty-first century setting in a Northern California where Austen’s works exist and the main character is doing her best to prove that name is not destiny. I occasionally felt frustrated with Charlotte’s lack of action; but was invested enough to keep reading to see if she could create a happy ending for herself.

I had super high expectations for this book. I'm a huge pride and prejudice fan so I was really looking forward to reading this book. It was super sweet & cute, but it wasn't my favorite book ever. I found it occasionally dull & boring at part and I really hate love triangles.

I really enjoyed this book by Kasey Stockton. I loved how Charlie started out thinking that she was like Charlotte Lucas from “Pride and Prejudice” but as Liam helped her to see herself as he saw her she learned that she is a beautiful, worthy of love young lady. I loved seeing the romance develop between Liam and Charlotte and I loved seeing these characters grow. I know that some times I feel a little like Charlie so I loved how Kasey showed her perspective of herself changing as she started listening to those who loved her. I loved the characters and really enjoyed reading this book.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Charlie is not Charlotte Lucas. Except that maybe she is? She finds herself a supporting cast character in others' lives. Between living with her parents and her unfulfilling job, Charlie has found herself stuck. Things look hopeful when she agrees to a blind date and discovers hunky Liam.
I enjoy Kasey's contemporaries. She has a great sense of humor and her love for Jane Austen might just surpass my own. The references were constant and delightful. I can't quite put my finger on why this wasn't an immediate favorite, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
Thank you to Covenant and Netgalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

A beautiful homage to Pride and Prejudice! This is my first Kacey Stockton book and I was not disappointed! I love retellings and though this wasn't exactly a retelling, the Easter eggs and such are very satisfying. Charlie is a fun and hilarious character! The whole set of secondary characters was delightful! I love Liam and Vera and Beth. I hope that beth gets her own story in the future. I really loved her. Looking forward to reading more from this author!

This was an adorable romance with some heavy nods to Pride and Prejudice that made the book both fun and poignant. Charlie’s emotional journey particularly resonated with me, and Liam was—of course—SUCH a swoony lead. I can’t wait for book two!

A fun, upbeat romcom with plenty of heart, a heroine to root for, and just the right touch of Jane Austen nods. I really enjoyed reading this frenemies-to-lovers romcom with lovable characters, quirky moments, and a dreamy romance. Charlie Lucas is stuck in her parents' attic apartment and a lacklustre job. When a man who seems to good to be true falls for her humour, kind heart, and down-to-earth ways, Charlie learns to look inside herself to see and embrace her own worth in order to embrace the perfect love right in front of her.
