I was new to the High Noon Enterprises and Ali Reynolds Series when I read Collateral Damage. I could have used a little more background on Ali and B. along with the rest of their fascinating team - but overall, I loved this book. B. Simpson (Ali's husband) is involved in a car accident on his way to the airport - along with his familiar driver. Ali and the team starts investigating if B. was the target (as the local police seem to think), or if there's more to his driver. Then, a series of seemlingly unrelated murders/attacks happen, and the team knows there's much more going on that the local cops can see. Ali and B.'s relationship and dedication are apparent through the book - as is Ali's quest for answers and justice. Looking forward to the next in this series -- and I will be reading J.A. Jance's High Noon from the beginning! Thank you to Gallery Books for an advanced reader of this book - the opinions expressed are my own.
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of COLLATERAL DAMAGE (Book 17 of the Ali Reynolds Mysteries), by J.A. Jance, in exchange for an honest review. When B. Simpson is nearly killed in a suspicious car accident, the members of High Noon Enterprises naturally assume that B. was the target of the attack. They work diligently to discover the motive behind B.'s injury. However, what if B. was just collateral damage?
I liked this book. I'm a fan of the series. I recommend this book to fans of the series and to fans of murder mysteries and thrillers.
I’ve read each of the Ali Reynolds series, and none disappoint!
This book finds B. off on an important business trip when his car service is involved in a terrible accident that puts him and the driver in ICU. Ali, Cami and Stu get to work to figure out what happened, and uncover several threads of information. The paths seem unrelated but as AI Frigg unravels them, the connections become apparent.
I enjoyed this book but did see some parts that didn’t seem completely connected. The competitor at the conference, that storyline never went anywhere, for example. It doesn’t take away from the story in general, just seemed out of place. I hope it’s a teaser that Cami might take more of a leadership role at High Noon but who knows?
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
Ali Reynold and her husband B. Simpson are the owners of High Noon Enterprises, a company providing internet security. When B. is involved in a car accident on his way to catch a flight to an important business conference, the investigation reveals the car was targeted. Ali and High Noon employee Stu investigate who was behind the incident - was B. the target or was it the driver?
As their investigation continues, it becomes apparent that the intended victim was the driver, a former police officer who is the subject of a vendetta by a corrupt officer he helped put away. The investigation uncovers connections between unsolved murders in different cities. As Ali and Stu uncover more information and pass it on to the authorities, will they be successful in ending the vendetta?

The latest book in the Ali Reynolds series is built around a man just released from a long prison sentence who is arranging hits on people who wronged him in the past. Ali and her husband B. Simpson are drawn into the situation when B's airport shuttle is run off the road and he and the driver are hospitalized. They are puzzled when the police say that it was not an accident, and begin to investigate. The computer geniuses at their company are enlisted to help.
I found this particular book to be not quite as engaging as previous books in this series. The main characters are also not as interesting to me as those in the other two series by Jance (JP Beaumont and Joanna Brady.) But, overall, the story line held my interest enough to say it's worth reading for those who are into computers and/or are Jance fans.
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Book Title: Collateral Damage
Author: J.A. Jance
Series: Ali Reynolds #17
Publisher: Gallery Books
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: March 14, 2023
My Rating: 3.5 Rounded up
I am a J.A. Jance fan and although she has several great series, Ali Reynolds is my favorite. This is my fourteenth. This novel is Ali Reynolds #17 in the series but it really is fine to read as a standalone. True having read any one of the earlier novels in this series would be helping with knowing these fun recurring characters: Cami, Stu and, of course, the very dependable yet always stretching what is legal, AI Frigg. I always enjoy Ali‘s business adventures with these characters at High Noon Enterprise.
This story starts with Ali still filled with grief and not looking forward to this the first Christmas without her dad. Thankfully she and her husband ‘B’ Simpson have an upcoming New Year’s business trip to London. Stu Ramey barges into her home with the news that ‘B” is involved in a car accident, which was meant to kill him. At the hospital ‘B’ insists that Ali go to the conference in London.
She is fearful that this accident is a vendetta from Frank Munoz an ex-cop who is out to ‘get’ everyone who put him in jail. Ali needs to solve this before she and the people she loves become collateral damage.
Always enjoy reading the latest ‘High Noon’ adventures - although not my favorite in this series – looking forward to #18!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Gallery Book for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for March 14, 2023
I want to thank #NetGalley and #GalleryBooks for my digital ARC copy of the book. Collateral Damage is the 17th book in the series with Ali Reynolds and her spouse B. The book does a adequate job of bringing readers up to speed if this is the first book they are reading but I still think that it makes better sense after reading the other books first. This time the story hits home as Ali's husband and a driver are in a bad accident and the police are trying to determine who the target was. Ali is in a bind and knows that Frigg can help clear up the confusion..
Frigg is a super computer that is self aware and able to hack anything and everything. She breaks down and allows Frigg to search and help find the killers and who hired them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was able to read it in a day.
The continuation of Ali and B and all of the people who work for them. What happens when one thing happens and sets off a chain reaction and you just don’t know where it’s going? And who will be involved? And how will it all shake out? Read this book to follow along with the story and get these answers!
J.a. Janice is a favorite mystery writer of mine. I was glad to be back with Ali Renolds and in Arizona. The plot wasn't as engaging to me as previous novels in the series but I did enjoy reading this.
Much like Jance's Beaumont mysteries, it has taken a few to get the Reynolds character completely relevant. But with the release of Collateral Damage, I believe Jance has really gotten it right. In addition to an interesting premise, the Ali Reynolds character and entourage has evolved into an interesting and exciting group. I have to say I never predicted exactly where this one was heading, but that's a good thing. Although I missed B and Ali's Mom through a good bit of this mystery, the other characters definitely picked up the slack. I'm looking forward to the next Jance mysteries for sure.
Lots of related stories all tied together by one ex-cop’s desire for revenge… payback for all those he felt betrayed him and led to his incarceration. Ali and B. and their team go to work providing clues to various police agencies when B. is injured in a violent automobile collision. Looking forward to the next installment of the series already.
Good book. Lots of intertwined story lines and characters. Fast and easy read bi do recommend this book.
I am a huge fan of J.A. Jance and all of the author's series. I love Ali Reynolds and B and all the rest; however, I did not love this book. The plot was slow. I considered not finishing, but, because of my love for the author and series, I stuck it out.
Collateral Damage by J.A. Jance is book 17 in the Ali Reynolds mystery series. I liked the setting of this book as I live in Arizona and know some of the places mentioned. Ali's husband is involved in a car accident, which was meant to kill the car driver as an act of revenge from an ex-cop. Per the synopsis, Ali must assemble the pieces of a puzzle woven with vendettas she never could have imagined, all before she and the people she loves become collateral damage.
Ali was a bit abrasive, but I liked most of the characters. Overall, it was a good story, kept my interest, and had a satisfying ending. I read the book in one day. I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars. I will read more from this author and this series.
