Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a classes locked room mystery.
Many plots and characters and fell short in some areas, seemed rushed at times.
Dark side of DNA testing is an interesting concept to put in a book as we have been seeing some of the cons in the media.
Three couples, one cabin, a weekend to die for.
I am a total sucker for a locked door mystery and this book didn’t disappoint. There were multiple viewpoints that naturally weaved together. This is a great read for a cold winters night to keep you guessing all night long.
I want to thank NetGalley, Lisa Unger and Legend Press for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.
This was definitely the type of story you get swept away by. I read it very quickly, and kept trying to parse out what was happening between two story lines. However, the ending felt a little convoluted and dissatisfying. It was a fun read, but not mind blowing as far as thrillers go.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
The premise and start of this book had me very intrigued. I loved the DNA kit aspect and where that would lead us.
The number of point of views left me a little confused as the book went on and ultimately it didn’t keep me as invested as I had thought it would do.
Overall, I still really enjoyed it as a secluded setting is one of my favorite mystery/thriller tropes.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. Quick thriller told from many different points of view. Mako - one of the main characters decides to take some family and friends for a weekend getaway. As it unfolds, do you know your family? DNA tests for origins are taken and some results are quite surprising!
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger
Three Couples rent a luxurious cabin for a secluded vacation. Macko the tech millionaire and his sweet spiritual wife Liza. Macko’s sister Hannah; a new mom and her husband Bruce who works for Macko. Cricket; Hannah best friend and Macko’s ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend Joshua. When the power lines get cut, each of these individuals have something to hide but someone seems to be stalking them but who are they after?
We read each of the character’s perspectives and they are intriguing and keeps the readers curious. Personally for me, the multiple perspectives took away from the main plotline. The twist wasn’t as believable as I would have hoped and it seemed a little far-fetched. However, I can completely see how others might enjoy this book! So I hope you enjoy it if you haven’t read it yet!
I really enjoyed this thriller! I liked the tie in to DNA match companies and thought how it was incorporated was very unique! I liked that we got so many povs and I liked that we especially got Henry’s plot line. It kept me guessing until the end. I do wish there was a little more creep factor to it because I never really felt scared at any point. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to my followers!
I think the issue with this story is it has great potential and I loved the atmospheric style... It just has too many POVs. There doesn't need to be as many as there are as it just gets muddy and messy. I think this would be good for people who can take that many POvs and really understand it... I just can't.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six
What could be more restful, more restorative, than a weekend getaway with family and friends? An isolated luxury cabin in the woods, but what's supposed to be a relaxing getaway soon becomes a living nightmare.
The first 50% of this book was so slow and I was so bored took me a long time to hit that mark as kept putting it down but once I hit 50% it got crazy and I couldn't put it down finished it in a day !
Thank you to Netgalley, Legend Press, and Lisa Unger for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
There are entirely too many POVs in this story for a reader to keep track of. At one point I was like WHO IS THIS PERSON? I had to go back and reread chapters to remember who is who. Sadly, I just really felt disconnected from this story.
Overall, an underdone read. I may explore some more of this author’s books in the future but not any time soon.
This was a book I was anxiously awaiting, but could not believe the let down I felt. I dont know if it was just me, but it felt like nothing exciting was happening. I guess I just could not bring myself to care about the characters here.
I love a good locked room mystery, but this wasn't a good one.
Three unlikeable couples gather for a weekend in a cabin to complain about a whole lot of nothing. A raging storm is coming, and so is a psychopath out for revenge. A decent though familiar setup devolves into a not-so-thrilling thriller that feels like the author googled a list of recent headlines from the past few years.
There is an interesting subplot about a child named Henry, but this storyline felt more like a distraction to main story that I wasn't enjoying. Lisa Unger should have taken that subplot and fleshed it out into its own novel. I do not recommend this one.
Not the best writing and a messy plot. Unlikable characters. Unfortunately, this wasn't a great read for me.
What a wild mystery! I could not figure this one out nor put it down! Lisa Unger books are always exciting and this is definitely a unique murder mystery story. I honestly wish the story was longer! The back story is SO interesting!!
Thank Netgalley for my copy of this book. My review is my own and unbiased.
Super suspenseful and kept me guessing until the very end. I enjoyed the different character viewpoints and storylines. Would highly recommend!
I’m normally a big fan of Lisa Unger but this book just missed the mark for me. The plot felt easily predictable and the characters lacked a little bit of depth for me that kept me interested in their story or what eventually happens to them. It had good suspense for the first half, but I found myself losing interest by the end. I’m still looking forward to reading more from Lisa Unger in the future, though!
I didn't love this thriller. I think it's my first Lisa Unger book! I didn't really like any of the characters and the motivations were a bit...dumb...there were too many characters with too many webs. I just watched this episode of The Rookie: Feds, IYKYK. lol
Very exciting book to read it was fast paced and had me hooked from the beginning. The book had a great plot that played out well.
Thank you @parkrowbooks @netgalley for my review copy!
📖When three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods, it’s supposed to be a weekend of relaxation and celebrating friendship. But when a storm rolls in and secrets start being exposed, this idyllic weekend quickly turns into a nightmare.
💭I love a good locked room mystery. Add in an atmospheric and secluded setting and that is my thriller sweet spot. Although I did enjoy this one, it fell a little short for me. I was definitely interested in the story and it kept me guessing, but it was just missing a little something to pull me totally in. By the end, it felt a little all over the place too. Definitely entertaining and a quick read though!
