This is a cute book!

Bergstrom lays out how to draw different cute things including food, plants, and animals. There's a helpful intro in the book about color theory, different outline styles, and different facial expressions. I was hoping for a bit more variety in the step-by-step instructions, but the lessons can be applied to all sorts of things to draw.

I received this e-book ARC through Net Galley from Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster in exchange for a truthful review.

Really useful book of 101 cute (yes, SUPER cute) things to draw.
The book starts with a generalized survey of drawing, patterns, color combinations and cute faces.
A 6-step set of directions is given for each item, breaking down drawing the item into easily followable steps.
I enjoyed going through and surprising myself with the cute, recognizable items I could quickly draw.

101 Super Cute Things to Draw contains easy step-by-step drawing tutorials. The projects are suitable for artists of all ages and skill sets. Just as the name suggests, the creations are super cute!

I tested out drawing several of the tutorials. Each one has six basic steps and is very easy to follow. A child could follow each guide without needing extra instruction. The cutesy food creations are my favorite as they're just adorable and a little bit silly.

This book would be a fun gift for any artist who enjoys the kawaii style. This would make a great addition to any classroom or homeschool library.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster!

My daughter, aged 8, adores drawing and especially likes books and tutorials that are easy to follow. This book is laid out really well, in a pretty pastel colour palette and it's very easy to copy the adorable designs. The drawings themselves range from food to animals and everyday objects. This book might also be useful for adults learning to keep a daily visual diary and in need to some inspiration or help with drawing particular objects. All in all, this is a really pretty, happy and colourful book. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

101 Super Cute- Things to Draw
3.5 Star

This drawing workbook teaches beginners to draw everyday items in a Kawaii style. The artist does a good job of covering tools, materials, color theory and drawing tips. They cover many everyday items, but I'd say the plant & animals sections were my favorite. The step-by-step directions make it easy to follow. There is definitely enough variety to keep a child entertained for a long drive or school break. This book is geared more towards non-artists, IMO. That said, I've seen books that cover this topic more effectively and geared towards artists.
This is why I've deducted Stars. Each drawing appears to be digitally produced or is just too perfect. That's great for beginner artists using this book to practice digitally, because it is more achievable. However, it would be discouraging for a child trying to recreate this traditionally. Each drawing project is pretty generic, but gives a child an opportunity to bring their own art style. Artists practice drawing everyday items. The goal is to capture more three-dimensional objects, and I find these projects flat, or 2D.

Overall, I would recommend this book for non-artists looking to have fun or a weekend activity with the kids. Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing, for allowing me to read an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I call this the book to hand your little ones if you need to get some things done, either at the office or around the house, because this will have them occupied and doodling and bringing out their inner artist. From drawing everyday objects, to combining color palettes, and more, this one is educational, fun, and interactive, and can be used at any age. It’s as great for adults as it is for children, as I think we all would love to be able to have at least a bit of artistic prowess. Let the doodling begin!

It really is cute! So simple, I'm fairly certain I could draw everything in it quite well. My almost 7 year old would love this so I'm probably going to have to buy a copy for her birthday.

I love the formatting of the book! The text is very simple to understand, but not so simple that it reads as a children's book. I feel it would be accessible to everyone, no matter the age or skill!

The drawings are wonderfully cute and easy to follow. The face suggestions made me laugh; it's neat how the slight tilt of a drawn eyebrow can change the expression entirely. The instructions don't fall into the pattern that a lot of how to draw books do, in which they skip from the final outline to a fully shaded and toned finished product. The examples go from line art to a colored image. Sometimes, there's a highlight or shadow, but nothing that would take more than a pen or brushstroke. The chosen color palette is beautifully calming. Not quite pastel but still moderate enough to not jump out at you.

While reading the book, I noted that many of the cute things would look awesome as amigurumi. Then, I find that the author is an amigurumi artist as well. Not only that: I already follow her! As an amigurumi artist myself, it's really neat to see traditional art spring from crochet and vice versa.

I will enjoy following these instructions as a nice relaxing time or as a warmup for larger projects. Anyone could enjoy these relaxing instructions using whatever art supplies they have on hand.

This is exactly the kind of drawing book that I love. It’s filled with very simple, easy, darling things to draw. It doesn’t use that common instructional method of having you draw a bunch of shapes and then erase parts, it just shows you how to simply and easily draw them.

The objects are diverse and fun, from a fox to a yeti to sushi to a teapot. Most have faces but they’re cute even without (I tend to leave faces off things like pizza slices even though that’s in right now).

This will be a great book for kids and adults. I am likely to use it in our community arts center that our family runs when we have art sessions. Recommended.
