I'd like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was super cute and I loved every second of it. Highly recommend to anyone!! Will definitely be reading more from this author!
Thank you netgalley for this ARC! This was such a cute simple quick read. I enjoyed this and this really helped me out of a book slump. I do feel it was missing something to kind of wrap this story up nicely.
Ohhhh gah. LOVED this one. Loved the banter between Ben and Olivia, loved the friendship group, loved the events in the story and how they molded the characters into who they are, and love the way Ben took care of Olivia from the start. Struggled a little with the miscommunication, but absolutely loved the plot overall. Some traumatic events happened, which is a basis for the plot, but they didn’t detract from the storyline overall. Not a focal point, I should say. Heavy influence, but the story was more about Ben and Olivia as people instead. This is a book I’ll wish I could read again for the first time! Thankful for the opportunity to read as an ARC!
Great enemies to lovers story where HE FELLS FIRST. I loved it from page one. I would recommend it to anyone.
i counted nine times he called her "woman." nine. times. that is nine times too many.
"How much do you hate me now?"
"Significantly less."
"This is probably a bad idea." His mouth hovered over her temple. "But I don't exactly have a history of being good with you, do I?"
it was enemies to lovers that actually had a reason to be enemies and actually acknowledged when they knew they weren't enemies anymore. nothing annoys me more when the characters dont do this. its so easy to ruin this trope. so those quotes and those bonus points is what earned it the three stars.
if i wasn't reading this bc netgalley gave me this as an arc for honest review (thanks btw, love yall) i would've dnfed this at 50%. it was convos with side characters to sex to side characters to sex. the only time we see the characters together is in the bedroom (and on the boat and in public and all the other places they did it).
even their so called character development happened during inner monologues when he was inside her. there are other things a man and woman can do with eachother like idk dates? pg -13, innocent dinner followed by a kiss goodbye dates? call me old fashioned butttt 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Quirky, funny, and some spice.
I have enjoyed this series a lot and if you are looking for a good series to binge this is it.
Banter was great and I love a good enemies to lovers. AND he fell for her first?! Yes, please. Loved this series and can’t wait to read more!
This one was pretty good. I really did enjoy the banter and the moments the leads had. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the romance was more developed.
"Reasons Why Not to Date Your Nemesis" fits the classic enemies-to-lovers trope flawlessly. It's a charming, chemistry-filled, light-hearted, and steamy romance.
Ben Crawford and Olivia Knight, far from being high school sweethearts, share a history as mortal enemies, connected in an unconventional way. Now as adults, Ben takes on the role of the new sheriff in town, and Olivia finds herself unable to keep her thoughts away from him—mostly thoughts of various ways to get rid of him because she despises him that much.
However, when they decide to channel their animosity and frustration into different outlets, they venture into an arrangement of enemies with benefits. While it may seem straightforward, their complicated past and concealed secret creates an underlying tension. Will they be able to maintain this uncomplicated agreement, or will they discover the reasons why not to date your nemesis?
This marked my first foray into Melanie Munton's work, and I'm thrilled to find that she has numerous books for me to explore. Her writing style is engaging, making it feel as though a friend is casually sharing a story, which I found incredibly appealing. It's this light-hearted and easily digestible quality that draws readers deeper into the narrative.
I adored this book for its blend of humour and heartache. It felt authentic that they didn't immediately move past their past conflicts, as some unresolved issues required time to heal. The characters and the story itself left a strong impression, and I highly recommend it to others.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I have been a big Melanie Munton fan for a few years and I’m never disappointed with her sexy hot romances. Her latest book in the Shell Grove series is about unfortunate teenagers caught up in their parents’ drama leading to hatred of each other. Twelve years later they meet again only to be confused by their unexpected attraction to each other even though they can’t forget the past.
Olivia Knight wants to take over her Aunt Rita’s Bed and Breakfast, but it’s contingent on her meeting face-to-face with the father who abandoned her and destroyed her life 12 years ago. And she had no time for her archenemy, Ben Crawford, to return to Shell Grove as the new sheriff in town. He’s still the smirky asshole she knew in high school, but he’s oh, so gorgeous with his filthy mouth and nice tight ass. He wasn’t going to rip her life apart again.
Ben Campbell has come back to Shell Grove to try to make things right. He wasn’t a rebellious teenager anymore. He was a decorated marine and the new sheriff in town. But the minute he saw Olivia again he reverted back to that teenager and used words to her up. She made his blood boil in more ways than one, but she deserved a good man and he was far from it. He’s carrying a secret that destroyed her life and she would never forgive him. Unfortunately, his heart couldn’t handle it.
Enemies-to-lovers tropes are my jam and Ms. Munton writes them so well. When the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the goody two shoes come back to the town that knows all their dirty secrets, it’s a battle of wills. They both come back to prove themselves. He to right all the wrongs he made and she to earn respect and not be “just the child left behind by her philandering father and grief-stricken mother”. Olivia is beautiful and stubborn as she holds grudges and denies her heart. Ben’s guilt is killing him. The secret he carries will certainly lose the woman he has fallen for and unfortunately, he’s not the one that tells her. This leads to anger, self-reflection, mending fences, and looking forward. I loved the word porn between these two. The slow burn of attraction is such a turn on and when they finally seal the deal, it’s very hot and very rewarding.
Olivia and Ben’s supportive friends are a great addition to the story and I can’t wait to read Maggie and Finn’s story because I also love friends-to-lovers tropes. Also, the story of Ben’s and Olivia’s parents is very sad and made me cry when the truth came out.
I highly recommend this delightful romance with a perfect blend of tension, redemption, and spicy sex. Pick up this book; I guarantee you’ll love it.
this was a fun enemies to friends with benefits to real love story. i struggled getting into it initially but once the story took off, i really enjoyed it!
I really struggled to get into this book, and it ended up taking me quite a while to get through. My main issue with it is that it reads like a weird mashup between enemies to lovers and second chance. The characters go back and forth about how they feel about each other, admitting it one second and then unsure the next. They talk about how much they hated each other in school and then go on about how they’ve basically been pining after each other for the last 12 years… it makes no sense. It also relies very heavily on the whole ‘oh he’s picking on you because he likes you’ thing which is just not cute. Especially when he’s still doing it as a full grown man who can’t deal with his feelings.
There were a couple cute moments in this book, but I also felt like we never really saw them having a relationship. They talk about dates they’ve been on or things they’ve done, but almost all of it is off-page. Barely anything happens in this book. All of the conflict is just things that happened in the past that Olivia can’t let go of, and she’s absolutely shocked when that revelation is brought to her attention.
And maybe it’s just me, but the whole family dynamic is also just really weird. I’m not a fan of step-sibling romance and that’s basically what this was.
*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was great! It has everything you would want in a book. Very chemistry filled, has banter, some spice! It was easy to read, and most importantly enjoyable. For people that like enemies to lovers tropes , this ones for you! This book is definitely for rom com lovers! I would highly recommend!
This was a good enemies to friends with benefits/love story. Watching that supposed hate turn to feelings is always fun. Ben and Olivia's chemistry was great and I think the only thing I really hated was that after the lead up things were just sort of buttoned up quick for the ending. I like a little more after the "together" details. I am definitely looking into other books in this series though.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to listen and read this book as an ARC.
This was book two in a trilogy written by Melanie Munton. As another small town romance book goes it is super cute. I loved the small town cop as one main character. It is super cute and I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a romance but a romance that doesn’t have that extra steam. A complicated past and a small town, what’s not to love. I give this one a 4 star review because I love the story and the easy ability to follow along with the story.
4.2 stars!!! I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers and this book seriously got it right not to mention the dominant, and possessive MMC … SWOON!! This wasn’t an easy breezy rom-com, it included a conflict that was definitely on the heavier side. The book mentions black and white versus gray and Melanie certainly nailed that on the head. Overall I really enjoyed reading this installment in the series!!
This is a good book the two main characters are Olivia and Ben. They have known each other all their lives. Olivia went away to college and Ben went into the military. Twelve years later they both cane home. Olivia came to take over the family bed and breakfast and Ben came to be the sheriff. They each had issues but together they work them out and fall in love.
Ben Crawford and Olivia Knight have been enemies since their school days, when she wore overalls to school and he asked her where she parked her cow. Now he's back in their hometown and he's the sheriff too. Their lives are connected by an unpleasant past, and the town has a long memory of what happened to their families.
I liked this book a lot, it was a great enemies to lovers type of story. The characters were all well-written and the plot was a great one. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
Reasons Why Not To Date Your Nemesis is the 2nd book in the Shell Grove series by Melanie Munton. Ben and Olivia are long-time nemeses. Their issues go way back and involve some family issues. Ben is back in town as the new sheriff and Olivia is still non-fan #1 of his. Ben has a secret that could cause even more turmoil.
I read the first one in the series and loved it so I was looking forward to the others in the series. I enjoy that the author uses a dual POV. That is always fun and allows a perspective that is not as skewed as a one-sided POV. I enjoyed the characters. Ben was a sweet, hot sheriff and Olivia is a strong business owner. They have both had their hardships growing up but are able to grow and learn from them.
The book is filled with spice which I find Melanie Munton to be very, very good at. If you want close-door romance, this is not for you :) I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Melanie Munton for the e-ARC of this book. This review is my own opinion.
An adult rom-com that had me cracking up because of the cheesiness and rolling my eyes out of annoyance.
