This was a breeze to read through. I am a fan of unwanted mate/rejected mate books. Talk about tear out your hearts and crushing it. This story was enjoyable. Looking forward to more books by this author.
This was a quick, fun werewolf read. It was straight to the point and handled the characters well. I wish it was a little bit more fleshed out, but the genuineness between the characters was great. The plot twist at the end did have me wanting for more.
2.5 rounded up.
Ok, this is a short story, with a bully romance trope featuring wolf shifters. The writing was fine, but because this was a bully romance, I definitely think that it should have been a full novel. I wanted plot and a ton of character development; without it I was unable to develop any type of fondness towards Marc. Sapphires, I wanted her to hold out more, like don't’ just give into this guy. Overall, it's a quick little steamy story, if that's what you're looking for then I think this one would be good to pick up, but for me I wanted more depth to it.
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
*This book was sent to me via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
This Author knew exactly how to catch me right from the start & kept me wanting more the whole read!! I love the build up even. I instantly love the balance between tender moments & steamy one. I loved the details given on the shapeshifting. & who doesn't love a fated mate story with a dominant male trying to claim his mate?? I know I LOVE them!! I will definitely be putting this one in the reread section of my reading list!!
When Sapphire and her family are forced to run from their pack, years later her brother insists they return. But Sapphire can’t, because it means returning to the boy that bullied her in her young years. Marc, will he ever find his mate?
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is another short, fated mates story but with a bully trope added in. When her parents pass away, Sapphire and her brother move back to the area they grew up. And in doing so, she finds out her mate is none other than than the boy who bullied her as a child. Marc has a lot of groveling to do and growing as a person in order for Sapphire to accept their bond and not reject him as a mate. And I loved how all of that played out, and I was completely into the story during all this. Although, there really isn't anything paranormal to it-other than it being they are fated mates. Nothing mentioned really about their wolves and claiming or any of that. And then the ending happened and I was left feeling like, what the heck did I just read?? There was nothing necessary in that not leaving the book just kinda hanging. Unfortunately, I doubt I will read another by this author.
When Sapphire goes back to her pack, she is hoping to have some quiet time and just get a long nicely with everyone. She, like other wolves hope to find their fated mate but when she runs into her old bully, Marc and realizes that he is her mate...she has a choice to make. She can either forgive him for how he treated her when they were kids or she can refuse him as a mate. If she refuses him as a mate, there's no telling whether or not she will find another fated mate. It's happened before but the odds aren't good.
At first she is just mad and is still hurt because of the way he treated her when they were kids. But after giving him a chance to explain himself and realizing that they both felt something for each other even as kids, she agrees to get to know him better before giving him her choice.
I can understand not being able to believe that the bully who was so terrible to you years before is now your fated mate and having to come to terms with that. I think I might have said no right away in that predicament. But fated mates are a blessing from the Goddess so she has to consider that as well. I liked watching these two try to get to know each other better and explain away how they treated each other as kids and why. I'm glad she at least gave him a chance to explain things. This was a fun, quick read.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
When their father dies, Ezra and Saphire go back to the Katu pack. Their mother then breaks down due to a broken heart. Five years ago, their father and the Katu Alpha had a falling out, and in the middle of the night, he leaves the pack. He and his family have been moving around ever since. Now, there is a new Alpha in the pack, and Ezra decides it's time to welcome them back. Saphire is not happy about this.
Saphire was Marc's bully growing up. She has never forgotten what he and his friends did to her, and she is constantly screaming and kicking as they go back. During this time, Marc is out with the other males of the pack, as their mates are having a girls night out. The Alpha is then called upon once the girls get into the bar, where they are dancing and making a scene.
The men in the pack rush to the bar to get their women, making it clear that they are not available. Marc senses Saphire before he sees her, and he knows that his fated mate is there. A drunk man aggressively approaches Saphire while she is dancing, and when she approaches him, Marc comes from behind and wraps his arms around her waist. He then tells the man to leave her alone. Saphire can't wait to see her fated mate, as she feels the electricity running through her body, and upon walking around, she is stunned and confused. She kicks him between the legs, causing him to fall to the floor. Marc knows that he has a lot to prove, and he refuses to make it easy for himself.
Saphire doesn't trust him, she doesn't want him to be her mate, and she hated him as a child. The story was very quick, and it felt like it was a prequel. I think that Saphire should have made Marc more aware of what he was doing to her. As an adult, he was constantly getting annoyed by all the shifter women and human women that he could find. Some of the women approached him multiple times during his make-up dates with Saphire, and he had no shame in telling her what he had done to them. Although he felt bad, he didn't exactly stand up to them. Most of the time, he just felt sorry for himself. Saphire then put on her big girl pants, and he decided to move on instead of looking back. The ending wasn't great, as it revolved around what happens to Keela.
This was a quick and fun PNR Fated Mates read.
What do you do when you find out your fated mate is your childhood bully? You give him a swift kick in the junk... He definitely had to work hard for his HEA. I enjoyed the friendships in this story and hope the other characters get their stories told.
This was my first read from this author and I'll definitely be looking for more in this series.
Sapphire gave in too easily. With all the things he did to her, she put up little fuss to being his mate.
This one was a really short & quick read, and I feel like I would’ve liked it if it were longer! We didn’t really get much world building or setup for the story. Granted, I didn’t read the first 3 novellas, but I still feel like there should’ve been more to go off of. I especially wish we saw more of the hero and heroines history together since the whole point is he used to bully her and he needs to woo her over so they can mate. Unfortunately this one just fell flat for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Publishing for the ARC!
3.5stars--UNWANTED MATE is the fourth novella in Jade Marshall’s contemporary, adult KATU WOLVES erotic, paranormal romance series. This is twenty year old she-wolf Sapphire, and wolf shifter Marc’s story line. UNWANTED MATE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Sapphire and Marc) UNWANTED MATE is a rebuilding relationship between twenty year old she-wolf Sapphire, and wolf shifter Marc. All of her life Sapphire has been bullied by Marc but five years ago, Sapphire and her brother Ezra’s lives were uprooted when their parents went in search of something else. Now, with the death of their mother and father, Ezra wants to return to the pack, a pack that hold nothing but bad memories for our story line heroine. With her return comes the knowledge that her fated mate is near, a mate who has harassed her for most of her life. Enter Marc. What ensues is the rebuilding friendship and relationship between Marc and Sapphire, and the potential fall-out as Sapphire must come to terms with Marc’s past, a past that continues to haunt our story line couple
The relationship between Marc and Sapphire is one of second chances; a rekindling friendship broken by Marc’s years of bullying our story line heroine. Marc and Sapphire know immediately that each is the other’s mate but Sapphire struggles with the hurtful words and broken heart so long ago. The lone $ex scene is passionate and intense.
We are reintroduced to several of the previous story line couples, she-wolf shifter Keelan, as well as Sapphire’s brother Ezra.
UNWANTED MATE is a quick read; a story of regret and forgiveness, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is engaging- the conflict resolution is hurried-I was hoping for a little more angst and delay but such is the nature of a novella length story ; the romance is seductive; the characters are energetic and lost. UNWANTED MATE ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger-you have been warned.

# 4 in the Katu Wolves series. Sapphire returns to her hometown to find that her fated mate is her childhood bully. I really love a good bully redemption story but this one fall a bit short because not only is he a bully but a huge manwhore....like slept with the entire town of women. I think Sapphire having to overcome being with her childhood bully was enough but then having to deal with all the women he had been with too was just a bit too much. It was resolved way too quickly without any sort of grand gesture or even showing her that he has changed and will be a good mate. Not my favorite in the series but recommend if you have been following the Katu wolves series. The next one is hinted at the end of this one and it looks like it's going to have a bit of angst.
A book with fated mates, second chances AND WOLVES ON IT? Give it to me!
Sapphire and Ezra, both wolves, decide to return to the pack after the death of their parents. Sapphire finds herself hesitating, remembering a specific boy who made her life impossible a few years ago. Things get complicated when she discovers that Marc is her fated mate. Will she be able to leave the past behind? Mark has really changed?
A light read, with easy-to-understand characters, without complex storylines or overdone drama. It's my first time reading something from this author and the world of wolves, my experience was better than I expected. Although I wish there was more development of this world, like, how does a shifter mark their mate? What differentiates a wolf from a human besides physical characteristics?
One specific thing that stands out is in the ending, I usually see an epilogue where the characters already have families, etc, but in this book there is a cliffhanger ending that involves other character, and it's not a frustrating one, on the contrary, it's one that left me wanting more.
If you are looking for: a well written book, quick read, paranormal romance, fated mates story, then this is definitely for you! Otherwise, if you are looking for groveling, more developed paranormal world and complex romance, then this may not be for you, but still I recommend it.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Evernight Publishing for the ARC, I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 4th in a series, but reads well as a stand alone. This is a very short read-can easily be done in one sitting. Because of its length-there is not a lot of background or explanation. For me it all seemed so rushed and I didn't see the chemistry between the two main characters Sapphire and Marc. He bullied her when they were kids and that seemed to be the extent of their interaction and then suddenly they were mates. So many questions and then the Epilogue is just an odd way to end a book in my opinion. I guess this is not my cup of tea. Really no sense of the paranormal to me. 2 stars
This is a paranormal romance, with themes of fated mates and second chances. It is not your usual bully romance, the hero Mark does admit that his bullying behavior was wrong and seeks to make amends. And the heroine holds onto the trauma it caused before slowly allowing him to show that he has changed, it is refreshing to see that being fated mates does not forgive all past wrongdoing and it's not insta-love, just a very magnetic pull towards each other.
I love the sisterhood amongst the women of the pack and good supportive female friendships shown, to affirm that being a mate is not the be all and end all of the heroine Sapphire. Looking forward to seeing more from the author!
I was excited to get an ARC of this from Netgalley, because rejected/reluctant mate stories are some of my favorites. This is a very short novella, and unfortunately that made it feel extremely rushed. There wasn’t any tension despite the fact that the MMC bullied the FMC pretty terribly through childhood. There was very little groveling, and the dialogue didn’t feel genuine. Both characters felt like cardboard cutouts.
This also really didn’t feel like a shifter book. The only thing that identifies it as one is the MMC shifting to run home from work, and, of course, the concept of a mating bond. But there is no claiming, marking, or even any primal desire between the two that you would expect from a shifter couple.
This is a fast hot read. We all have someone from our childhood who bullied us. Sapphire's comes back into her life in an unexpected way. The ending is a bit of a shock. All in all a good book.
This was an enjoyable quick read. I absolutely love paranormal romances and this hit most of my criteria for a great book. I liked the heroine whose father fell out with the previous alpha and took the family away from the pack and lived isolated from other packs. The father dies and the brother brings them back to the pack which kick s of the book. The tension between the hero and heroine was good and he has a redemption arc which we always like to see in a rejected mate book.
This was an awesome quick read that was light and easy to read. Highly recommend and am always a fan of Jade Marshall.
When I jumped into this novel, I wasn't sure what to expect other than it had shifters and romance. A combo of things that I really enjoy! It relies heavily on the bully trope as Sapphire's mate was once her bully but it shows the character growth away from the bully trope and into realizing they're meant to be mates.
It was a relatively short read, one I definitely finishing in a single sitting and by the end I was so invested in what would happen between the two main characters only for a plot twist to get thrown right in there with absolutely no warning! It shocked me and left me reeling a little there! Overall though, it was a good book and one I'd read again!
Thank you NetGalley for giving me an ARC copy of this novel.
