This one was a wiiiild ride! If youโre looking for something quick, fun, totally ridiculous and smutty for Halloween - this is it. I wish we got more of the characters & I wanted the ending to be a little more satisfying, but overall it was a good time.
Woah - that may be the weirdest smut Iโve read to date. I probably should have refreshed my memory on what this was about before diving right in, but dive in I did!
This is a very quick and dirty read about a goth girl who, when walking home after being humiliated by a fling, meets up with a real life jack-o-lantern with all the parts youโd need for smutty goodness. Was it dark? Yes. Was it dirty? YES. Did it somehow manage to have a romantic happy ending? Also, somehow, yes! If you enjoy a weird read to go along with the Halloween season, I assume this is for you. I have no clue how to rate this on a real scale, I just gave it a fun 4 stars out of 5.
First of all if you see this review and you know me in real life... this is all an illusion and this review doesn't actually exist ๐คฃ๐

Okay not to the review..... I chose a 3โญ review because I'm TORN.
-Was it entertaining? Yes, definitely
-Did it follow the book description? Yes.. but I was definitely surprised by some things here ๐
-Did I finish this book and think "wow what a sexy romantic book"? No, I for sure didn't ๐๐
I thought this felt more like a comedy/satirical romance and from that standpoint it was a good read.
I know it's a novella so there's only so much you can pack into that short of a book but there was some things that just didn't add up for me to take this seriously.
It started out intriguing and got more and more wild as it went on. Definitely recommended to anyone looking for a silly, slutty, Halloween themed novella with barely there plot, but not for someone looking for anything traditional romance- even if it's of the monster variety.
TWs: Dubious consent, Murder (non-graphic), Degradation (kinda?), Monster fucking- but I'm guessing you know that already, the use of "fertile fields" and "slit" to refer to the FMC's.... bits ๐

-Instalove- this girl is professing her love to a pumpkin dude after like 30 minutes???
-She willingly lets a rando pumpkin monster impregnate her and dedicates her whole life to him??? Like okay she seemed to really enjoy those ๐ถ๐ถ scenes but come on... you're giving up your whole life??
-The babies?! One minute she's pregnant the next minute she's tending to a garden?? Did I miss a transition here? ๐
-She has her new boyfriend murder her ex boyfriend and that felt so extreme to me and out of nowhere ๐

I was not a fan. The pumpkin man part was ok but I didnโt need the torn apart Ex boyfriend. I feel like there couldโve been a better way to explain her backstory, as well as Jacks. Everything was a bit disjointed.
I really had hoped that Sinister Desires would be a great book. It really has it all, doesn't it? Halloween Spirit? Erotica? Check. Pumpkinhead? Check. And it should have been straightforward, I even commended it for being super short and having that erotica come in the first five sentences. However, the writing was what made this book such a huge letdown.
First, while I had begun to get entrapped by the opening sequence, the way the book jumped straight into erotica felt way too forced and quick for me. I was taken aback by how swiftly the narrator was pressured into committing sexual acts to "thank" the Pumpkin-head half-human monster for saving her. The acts in itself were borderline dubious consent and everything about the gender dynamics was vaguely sexist in a lot of not-hot these days way. I mean, it's 2022. Women know they no longer need to be treated this way by men!
Anyway, my point stands. It was very disappointing even if the summary and cover image attracted it to me immediately. If this author were to improve on the aspects I spoke up, I'd probably give her another try. But I am hoping someone could do the story justice. Until then, sorry, one star.
Pumpkin Smut?! Just the term had me saying...umm I need to read this.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I picked up this short monster romance book. A young curvy girl walks through the woods and gets saved from wolves by a hunky jack-o-lantern headed man who wants to ravish her. Ending in pumpkin babies and a Pirates of the Caribbean type once a year love.
Some crazy aspects of this book: trench coat wearing, pumpkin headed, huge manhood creature with pleasure vines that come out of his coat and cum that taste like candy. A heroine who falls for this creature in less than 15 pages and gives up everything for once a year monster sex.
With the story being so short I felt like the plot was rushed and there was no character depth or development. However it was the craziest, weirdest Halloween read that fit hit the spot!
Well, this was an interesting read. I'd say you definitely need to keep an open mind because the story was pretty "out there." Did it stop me from reading the story? No, and honestly, I was intrigued so I kept on reading. The beginning of the story was really good, and the story was unique. The ending was absolutely insane so beware of that.
Overall, this was a pretty good read. If you're looking for a quick Halloween monster romance/erotica then I'd recommend this story.
Overall: โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ
Plot/Storyline: ๐๐๐
Feels: ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Emotional Depth: ๐๐๐
Sexual Tension: โกโก
Romance: ๐๐๐
Sensuality: ๐๐๐
Sex Scene Length: ๐๐๐
Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Humor: A bit
Perspective: First person from only the heroine
Basic plot:
Charleigh has just been dumped by her date. Trying to make her way home, sheโs attacked by wolves and is rescued by the mysterious pumpkin man, Jack.
Give this a try if you want:
- Iowa setting
- Contemporary time period
- Curvy/full figured heroine
- Monster romance โ hero is a pumpkin man with flames for eyes and vine hands. Moss green body with a ripped chest and abs and wears a trench coat.
- High steam โ probably at least half the book is sex
My thoughts:
Jack doesnโt talk the entire book. He relays some of his past through touch and makes a couple hand motions/hip thrusts to show what he wants. And being so short our character depth is not that great (to be expected).
I didnโt hate it. In fact, I had quite a bit of fun talking about it to other readers. The sex was okay โ I could have used some more emotional aspect for them. There was a lot of scenes, but they also felt pretty short and undeveloped.
Overall I think itโs a fun, absurd Halloween read. I had fun reading it but itโs nothing I would want to reread.
This was adorably odd. It was cute and weird, I wish it were longer. Otherwise, it was fun and funky
Wellโฆ

Okay.
I mean, the actual smut was great to read in terms of the descriptiveness. Butโฆ What the hell did I just read?! It wasnโt THAT bad until the pumpkin patch. That part was just a little TOO far fetched for me. Overall, not terrible. But definitely would not read again lol.
This was a WILD ride through the pumpkin patch. It felt like Rob Zombie writing an episode of Red Shoe Diaries, and I mean that in the best way possible! I am so freaking glad my girlfriend suggested it, And allowed me to live text her as I was reading it. It was weirdly sexy, and I actually want a fleshed out (pun intended!) backstory for Jack. And also a sequel for the little pumpkin munchkins ๐ ๐๐ป๐๐ป for real, I can't recommend this fun read monster porn more!
Thank you Faedra Rose and Netgalley for this arc!!
Didnโt realize this was horror smut, and I really didnโt like how the protagonist was written. Overall disappointing.
You're familiar with pumpkin spice. Now can I introduce you to pumpkin smut?
Just when I thought I've read it all, I encounter jack-o'-lantern monster smut and realize there is so much more out there to explore.
The monster/humanoid hero in this is a jack-o'-lantern head with hellfire eyes, green skin, and a ripped body. He only wears a black trench coat, is naked underneath, and is sporting the girthiest [gourdiest? lol] erection you ever did see. And he shoots vines out his body that can restrain someone or slither into spaces and mold to whatever shape he wants (can you see where this is going?). Did I mention his precum is sweet as candy and his cock tastes like pumpkin?
The story starts off strong; it's unique to me and I was 100% on board and intrigued. But the more I read on, the less I liked it. The writing took me out of it, I didn't love the characterization of the heroine or how her attachment to Jack went from 0 to 100 instantaneously. Then that ending had my head rolling. I'm speechless.
This was a fun foray into the wild and imaginative. Would recommend for those curious and interested in reading a quick halloween PWP story.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
Spooky season is my favorite season & I couldnโt wait to get started by reading this book because by just the cover it screams Halloween. It absolutely delivered on that front. If Iโm being completely honest Iโm still a little confused on certain aspects but it was ok.
You have a curvy goth girl , feral werewolves , an asshole jock, & a monster dick whose cum taste like candy. Essentially our curvy goth girl gets lost in the woods thanks to ex jock bf & comes upon wolves who she tryโs to fight away but end up getting scared of the monster, known as jack, who then saves her & fucks her. He later kills her ex jock bf & fills her with his โseedsโ very literally. Sounds like a solid Halloween story. Overall it was ok very entertaining to say the least Iโm still just really thrown about the whole pumpkin patch thing.

Well, this was one strange, spooky, erotic ride filled with tentacle vines, a large green schlong, a rather brief but interesting back story, and a gothic girl who just wants to be weird. Itโsโฆunorthodoxโฆeven in the monster erotica world because of the ending, but I wanted a Halloween-ish quickie and I sure af got it.
This story is SUPER short. It has humor, gore, and a small romance, but even though itโs a PNR, the ending is justโฆstrangeโฆand Iโm confused with how all that worked out. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
The writing was phenomenal, yโall. Enough so that Iโm eager to check out more from this author. It flowed easily, had great balance between plot and smexy times, and the humorous twist was superb
Overall, it hit the spot for a Halloween erotic tale. I found the FMC to be quirky and the MMC was pretty dang nifty. I mean, a big, muscular, pumpkin-headed creature? Okay. ๐ค๐ป

I really should have stopped reading after the first chapter. It was weird, the babies even more so..

Lmaooo what even was this? Charleigh meets Jack the pumpkin headed no pants wearing monster in the woods and he saves her from a pack of wolves. How does one repay a pumpkin headed pantsless monster for saving their life? Yup, you guessed it! By having little baby pumpkin headed pantsless monsters with him! It was just a campy, silly, smutty read. Oh! And also a brutal murder! I found myself plenty of times laughing out loud it was so ridiculous. Happy spooky szn friends!
I chose this book out of curiosity about monster romance books that I've seen talked of on social media. I'm not sure if they're all like this one, or if there's great variation among them, but this one wasn't really for me with the wish-fulfillment, anti-man sentiments, shocking disregard for a human's life, and insta-love.
The opening writing showed the author's talent for storytelling, and I believe she could write quite engaging stories of all types. This one was fast-paced and did hold my interest/ curiosity throughout. I could see fans of monster romance loving this book for its immersive qualities, spice, and taboo subjects.
I'm glad this was a quick read. I would be interested to see more by this author, without the afore-mentioned qualities that I don't have taste for.
I have no idea what I just read. It could only be described as spooky smut with no plot. There is a viney, green pumpkin man whose semen tastes like Halloween candy. I think that explains enough. I love a good monster romance, but there was no description behind the lore and the pumpkin man couldn't talk, so the reader never learns anything about him. It could've been an interesting Halloween erotic romance if it had been fleshed out more.
I really enjoyed all the characters, there are monsters, mystery, intrigue, steam and spice in spades. My only regret is that it is so short.
