"The Shadows We Make" is a young adult tale filled with bravery, magic and the binding power of friendship. It grips the reader from the very start till the end.

The story revolves around Grace Irese, sixteen-year-old desert warrior and Duncan Oaks, teenage member of the Grif-Drif Con-Artist Guild.Both of them have unique qualities and complement each other nicely. Their life takes a dramatic twist when they are both remanded to an off-world juvenile facility with lifetime sentences.

It is intriguing to read how both of them plot an escape into the horrific environment beyond in order to save Duncan’s sister from Grace’s war-torn world. Will they and their unlikely companions survive unscathed or find themselves forever altered?

The author has well plotted all the characters and captivated the readers from its intriguing storyline. Language is lucid and storyline is vividly portrayed.

The plot is engaging, exciting, heart-pounding, and well timed. Of course, as this is the first book in the Shadow Journey Series, the adventure continues in Book 2, The Thrice-Gifted Child. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more adventures in this series.
