2.5 🌟 rounded up. Let me start off by saying the premise was great, but the execution was not. This was more of a story about helping expectant and new families get the help they needed rather than a romance.

Sam was truly a doormat for everyone in her life to walk over - and it took her way too long to figure it out. The only sensible people in this book were the two male characters, which bothered me in a lot of ways too. While I do think it gave an example of how to set with boundaries and not overcommit yourself, I don’t think it was done in a healthy way. Until 80% Sam’s life was a cakewalk and she was superwoman completing a million tasks that no normal person would be able to do with only 24 hours in a day. And in one day that all comes crashing down and she reevaluates her choices. It just seemed rushed but also I ended up skimming? Not sure what to make of that.

The romance was a side-plot at best and was not developed well at all. And the scene with Sam and Grant at his house? Cringey. This one was definitely not for me, but would be a good easy read for anyone who likes perfectly wrapped in a bow endings for a romcomy-ish story!

I adored Sam. She really grew on me. I enjoyed Sam's internal dialogue and the portrayal of her insecurities. That's something I could relate to. A part of me still wished it was dual POV so we could hear from Grant. But overall great read. I'd love to read more from Addie Woolridge.

This book had a really nice premise, however I think I expected something different entirely which is most likely on me. I found the FMC not that likeable and a little childish with how she dealt with issues. I didn't really feel any of the chemistry between her and the love interest which brings me to my next point. I don't think this book really fits into the romance genre for me, I would say it's more women's fiction with an added romance subplot. To me this was about a woman figuring out her place as a daughter, doctor, friend and girlfriend. I enjoyed the inclusivity towards transgender parents in books - I've not seen that often. I'll definitely check out more of Addie Woolridge's work in the future, I just think this one in particular didn't work for me.

I went into this book expecting a cute love story between doctors. Unfortunately there was very little chemistry between romantic leads, and a lot more delving into the female main character's people-pleasing tendencies and inability to ask for help or set boundaries with her emotionally manipulative mother. There was also, surprisingly, a lot of time spent on intramural sports. Way too much time, quite frankly. Dialogue was stilted, characters were undeveloped... this one just didn't work for me.

This strong heroine gets it done! Addie Woolridge has fashioned a character we can all relate to -- overworked, over-committed, and determined to keep all the balls in the air. And then enters the love story.

Dr. Sam is determined to get doula care for her patients and build a sense of community. And who steps up but swoony Dr. Grant. These two spark more than romance as they work together in a book about dreams, dedication, and finding the perfect person to walk with you on your one truth path.

Meet cutes are one of my favorite tropes and this book definitely explored them. I enjoy romance a lot and I have to say this was just a wonderful read that I enjoyed and hope to read more from this author very soon.

Anatomy of a Meet Cute by Addie Woolridge is a fun and timely rom-com!

Sam is beginning her fellowship program in Ob-gyn and wants to start a community program. While in search of setting up this program she meets Grant, a doctor, in which they have immediate chemistry.

I enjoyed the story and characters. It was a cute and fun read. If you enjoyed Grey’s Anatomy this story is for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

I wanted to really like this book,
Sounded like Greys' anatomy meets a rom com.

It was more Grays Anatomy meets Love and Basketball meets A Hallmark movie.

Or rather, more...our main character has this research project and here is her side romance.

I didn't mind the main character being prickly like some of the reviewers did.
I just wanted more from the book and romance as a whole , and didn't get it.

Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

2.75 ✨

Like others I was in initially drawn to this book by the cute cover and clever play on words title. Everything suggested medical themed girl meets boy rom com which sounded right up my street.

To a point this is a medical themed girl meets boy story but personally I didn't feel much romance or comedy.

I found it hard to stay engaged in reading this when you know from the start what you are expecting to happen but you cannot bring yourself to care because the main character is simply insufferable.

Research fellow Sam meets Grant who just also happens to be a doctor - and one of her senior colleagues - whilst attending to a medical emergency on a plane.

What ensues is Sam continuously taking on too much and yet somehow making it work because she is surrounded by a group of incredibly supportive people (including dishy Dr Grant) who she is incredibly rude and generally snobby towards.

I appreciate the diversity of characters in this book and its highlighting of the importance of good reproductive healthcare. Jehan and Duke are both lovely and honestly deserve far better than Sam treats them.

Grant is a little too perfect and we don't really get to know him that well and the chemistry between him and Sam just isn't there for me.

Sam's relationship with her mother was almost as unbearable as Sam herself and irritated me greatly. It's so dysfunctional and yet is suddenly much improved from one conversation? Please. So much therapy is needed to unpack all those issues.

The writing is okay and it's easy enough to read but I couldn't connect with the story so not the book for me.

With thanks to Montlake and Netgalley for the ARC

Anatomy of a Meet Cute by Addie Woolridge is light slow burn.
I was so wonderfully surprised by this book.
This book was absolutely adorable, with characters I quickly loved and banter that made me smile.
Such a cute, breezy read with solid characters, witty banter and a story I just loved.
Sam and Grant really pulled me and hooked me into their story. They were just freaking adorable.
I loved seeing how their journey would unfold and honestly it was a fun and delightful time.
This was one book I was super excited to start!

This book wasn’t for me. Much steamier than I anticipated and included some topics I wasn’t comfortable with. Might work for others but not me.

If you love slow burn, this book is for you. The “meet cute” beginning was on point for me- it doesn’t have to actually be cute, it just needs to be happenstance-, so an emergency on a plane and a cocky but hot doctor? Check! After their run-in, our MC doctors end up working together and tensions rise, but of course, sparks fly! It definitely gave Grey’s Anatomy. I enjoyed the side characters and side plots, which rounded out the story, though sometimes the romance fell second to our heroine’s projects and personal issues. It almost strayed into women’s lit territory, and the ending didn’t feel like enough- an epilogue with a flash-forward would have been great- but that’s a good problem to have, right?! It made me want more. 4 ⭐️

Samantha and Grant meet on a plane - their "Meet Cute," but it was anything but cute and plagued with conflict. They then begin working together and that's when the cuteness begins to happen.. if you like early seasons of greys anatomy, you’ll like this book

Thank you to @netgalley for approving me to read this eARC✨

From amazon:
"Sparks fly when an ob-gyn butts heads with a doctor at her new hospital in this delightfully charming romance about bad timing, good friends, and fresh starts."

My thoughts💭
Ughhhhh... I soooo wanted to love this but sadly I just didn't. It was such a good idea and I did love the idea of birthing support running alongside the romance. Personally, I'm not very scientifically/STEM minded and there were so many parts that went veryyyy into detail about medical things that just kind of bored me / went over my head unfortunately. I also didn't love Sam, she seemed very immature for an adult in a medical fellowship and so whiney.

That said, I loved Grant, Duke, Kaiya and Jehan. They were amazing characters😍 There was so much representation in this read which was fabulous 👏🏼

This book just didn't do it for me but there were definitely positives and it's one I would recommend to someone medically/STEM minded for a cutesy romance!

This book was okay. I had high hopes based on the cover and the title (because honestly, how cute?!). But, it didn’t really reach the hopes I had for it. I was hoping for more like a cute, romancey version of Grey’s Anatomy and didn’t really get any of that out of it.

Sam was kind of a rude human being? I didn’t like her at all, even in the later chapters where she had begun to stand up for herself and work on herself/her relationships she was still a jerk, but at least she realized it? I had a hard time connecting with her because I just couldn’t get over how much I didn’t like her.

Grant, on the other hand, was a great guy! He was kind and willing to help Sam out in all areas of life, especially in her career and personal life. He was fun to follow along and I found myself wondering what a guy like him could see in a person like Sam.

I really did like the medical aspects of this book, particularly Sam’s passion for creating a new program for pregnant women to connect with doulas and doctors to help create plans and a level of safety for their births. There were some things that happened that wouldn’t have been true, like Sam saying she hasn’t been in a hospital before her fellowship. She would have had to have started her residency already and have been 3 years in, working IN a hospital, not being a hospital newbie. It was weird. But otherwise, this book was pretty okayish. More of a read-once-and-be-done-with-it kind of book for me!

What a sloooow burn. Like Grey’s Anatomy in a novel. A lot of tension building up throughout that you just knew was going to explode - with Sam’s mum, overworking herself and with her love life. I kind of felt like Duke and Jehan were going to get together? But maybe I read that wrong! Also devastated that there was no epilogue as I was enjoying it so much and wanted that little bit more!

This was an entertaining enough premise, and good writing, but nothing truly stands out about it compared to the hundreds of other rom coms I’ve read.

Romance, while built slowly, did not feel accurate or worthwhile by the end. All the build-up for so little pay off.
