I’d give this book a hundred stars. As Melissa always does, she beautifully captures the complications of a life lived with pain and purpose intertwined with faith and family. I adore Muir Harbor, and I think this sequel is even better than the first book (which I also loved)—highly recommend reading them in order though as this one picks up almost exactly where book one left off. The ending left me with a satisfied happy sigh, but I cannot WAIT to read book three!
Such a sweet, sweet story! Melissa Tagg never disappoints and this one is no different. There's the quirky small town, reminiscent of "Gilmore Girls", and a wonderful love story that is full of laughs and heart. The author captures the emotions of everything the two main characters are going through and I loved every minute of it. I love this family so much and cannot wait for book 3! Please tell me that book 3 is about Wilder and Lilian. I desperately need that book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Indi sees herself as the 'messiest Muir' and has largely withdrawn from the others emotionally for the last eleven years. But when her past begins to intrude itself into the present, she can no longer run fast enough to escape. Philip has never really felt that he had a home, but as soon as he first sets eyes on the Muir farm, he feels at home. He first met Indi after recognising the name Muir from an old letter found in his grandfather's drawer, but when things fall apart with his half-sister and he needs to get them away to try to connect with her, he revisits the Muir farm - and finds more than he ever thought possible. Can these two troubled souls find a way to deal with the past so that they can regain that sense of wonder?
Short summary: I loved it. The author weaves a rich tapestry of characters and events that culminates in a deeply satisfying ending. I loved watching Indi come to terms with her past, though it was definitely an emotional process - and getting to know Philip was amazing too. The touch of mystery (carried over from book 1) of someone breaking in caught me by surprise, so congratulations! All in all, a very hard book to put down and one that left me feeling deeply about the characters. Note that this is largely a standalone story but there is a relatively minor thread of mystery underlying the series, so it may be best read as a series. Personally, I'm waiting eagerly for the next book - both to see Lillian (and Wilder, I assume) get her story and to see the end of Maggie's hunt for Cynthia. Highly recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
A Seaside Wonder is the second book in Melissa Tagg’s Muir Harbor series. This book continues to follow the Muir family through the ups and downs of their lives. A must-read series for those who love romance and found families.
A Seaside Wonder follows Indi Muir, the youngest in the Muir family. There is so much to love about this book. I loved the character growth both Indi and Philip had to undergo. There was so much hurt and loss in their lives that they both needed to deal with.
It was also fun to have the mystery storyline continuing on from the first book in the series. I can’t wait for the next part of the series, to discover more about the family and their history.
I loved this book and I am sure you will too. This book can standalone, but I definitely recommend reading the first book, Autumn by the Sea first.
I had high expectations for A Seaside Wonder after loving Autumm by the Sea so much. A Seaside Wonder went above and beyond what I had hoped for. A superb second book in the Muir Harbor series that tugs on all the heartstrings! 5 stars!
From the dreamy cover to the very last page, Melissa Tagg has written a timeless story of love and loss. Indi Muir is a woman living with regrets. She spends her life trying to forget the past while making a future for herself through her art. Meeting unlikely beta hero professor Phillip West, while in the midst of experiencing yet another life blow, begins a journey to happiness, contentment and purpose Indi never expected. This story is full of so much emotion and charm I couldn't have loved it more! Holland was a great secondary character adding just the right amount of teenage angst and sarcasm.
There are some truly wonderful quotes in A Seaside Wonder, some of my favorites:
*There is still goodness for you, Indi. There's still beauty and joy and love waiting for you."
*This was the love that had been waiting for her all along. A gift from God who'd never once left her side. Who not only cleaned up all her messes, but who walked with her through them."
*"...she was learning...How to trust the heart of God who stayed even when her own heart drifted, knowing He'd always find a way to draw her back."
As a side note, there's a bit of issue with some of the ages of the characters, Phillip's grandfather is said to be 67, so how could Phillip's mother have just died at the age of 56? (Nora West 1962-2018) Nonetheless, the story's so good I'm not letting that affect my love of the book.
I can hardly wait to see the mystery of the missing Cynthia solved, and to read the final installment of the Muir Harbor series in Wedding at Sea. I sure hope Lillian and Wilder stop butting heads and get together at last! The Muir Harbor series is destined to be an all-time favorite! I appreciate Larkspur Press, via NetGalley, making a copy of A Seaside wonder available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.
"A Seaside Wonder" sweeps us back into Muir Harbor in a new season and into the midst of the mystery that plagues Maggie's farm. You'll want to read "Autumn by the Sea" first to meet the Muir siblings who each found a home and family with Maggie and put together the threads of the mystery.
In book two of the series, we get to know Indi, the sister everyone sees as artistic and talented—everyone except herself. Indi's struggles with her "complicated" past and her "messy" present provide many ways for readers to not only empathize with Indi but appreciate the truths she learns about herself along the way. (Reading the author's note, it's clear the author was sharing a lot of her own journey in Indi's story, which explains its poignancy!)
And in between untangling the threads of the mysterious intruder and Maggie's long-lost granddaughter, we're also given a glimpse into a story from long ago through a letter discovered in a desk drawer. Might that story find its happy ending all these years later?
There's so much to love about this book. But I especially enjoyed the Narnia references and the pet names Indi and Philip called each other.
"A Seaside Wonder" is another enchanting title from Melissa Tagg! I'm already looking forward to the conclusion of the Muir Harbor series.
Something about the first book in this series never quite hooked me, but this book was just the opposite. It hooked me from page one and I couldn't put it down! Can't wait to see how this series concludes in book three!
This is the second book in the well written Muir Harbor series by Melissa Tagg. What I really liked about this book is that over the course of the book, the characters face hard issues but also grow as a result of them. You can tell that the author has infused herself into the book as the inner struggles the characters face, feel real.
As a result, I can't wait until the third book in the series comes out. I have my theories but we shall see. I do recommend reading these books in order as this adds to the layering of the different threads in the book. Of course, it can be read as a stand alone if necessary.
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation. This is a great book and well worth the read!
I absolutely loved this story. It's a Melissa Tagg book, so it's not really a surprise that I loved it so much. There's always something so special when I pick up one of her books. I'm transported into the characters' lives and the always charming setting, and don't want to leave. This one had me feeling all the emotions. I laughed, I cried, I swooned.
Indi was super likable. She was dealing with a lot, and even though she saw herself as a complete and total mess, I really admired her strength. She didn't give herself enough credit, but I think we all can relate to that. Philip was so charming in his bookish, nerdy, and slightly awkward way. I couldn't help but fall hard for him. His and Indi's first meeting was absolutely hilarious. It's gotta be one of the most memorable meet-cutes I've read in a long time. It totally endeared me to him from that moment on.
Needless to say, I highly recommend this book. It can be read as a standalone, but I'd still recommend starting with book one. There's an overarching mystery that started there and will continue into the final book, which I'm incredibly eager for!
I received an advanced copy of this book via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
A Seaside Wonder was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it did not disappoint. All the charm I fell in love with in book two of this series, characters so wonderfully crafted they feel like friends and an ongoing mystery I am so excited to fully unravel. Melissa Tagg has outdone herself with this unconventional family set in the seaside town of Muir Harbour. So much emotion, such realistic and relatable struggles. A delight from start to finish.
This book is absolutely wonderful! It hooks you on the first page and doesn't let go. It will make you laugh, cry and feel every emotion in between. This book will touch your heart and soul. It definitely deserves more than 5 stars! I loved this book and can't wait to read book 3!
I received a complimentary copy from Larkspur Press via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
If you haven’t yet read Autumn by the Sea, or if you’ve forgotten a lot of it, you definitely want to read that book before this second one in the series. I’m really glad I re-read it, just to remember what all happened, and who all the characters are. A Seaside Wonder picks up before Autumn by the Sea ends, and plunges right into complicated relationships, mysterious happenings, brokenness being healed, but new brokenness coming to light.
I stayed up way too late to finish this book, but I sure enjoyed it. The plot twists will keep you on your toes and gasping every now and then. Once again the characters become good friends and I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to them all. The spiritual insights on love, courage, family, prayer, and more are challenging and hopeful. I can’t wait for book 3!

A Seaside Wonder is a delightful story that pulls you in and keeps you engaged from start to finish. It’s a mixture of laugh out loud moments and super serious topics that intermingle in a realistic fashion – like life. The main characters Philip West and Indi Muir are quirky, funny characters that make a perfect couple. Philip and Indi have buried their emotions surrounding life-changing moments they’ve experienced and as their lives intermingle, they begin to find healing. I particularly enjoyed Philip’s interaction with his half-sister Holland. When the story begins Holland and Philip have a strained relationship and watching them work through the issues that drove a wedge between them was a beautiful thing to see. If you’re a Melissa Tagg fan, you’ll enjoy this witty, yet emotional story. I received an advance read copy through Netgalley, but I will be purchasing the paperback as soon it’s available.
"Sometimes we don’t have answers . . . we only have questions." Thank you for this gift Melissa.
I feel so much connection to this phrase, especially after reading this book. Like it gave me permission to feel that it's ok if I just have questions. That it's ok when I don't get the answers I want from God, or any answers at all sometimes. That I just need to keep moving forward and live life.
This book helped me realize that when we feel broken, when we feel like a failure, it's ok, but it's not the end. This book was a gift to me and I want to share a quote from it that struck me so hard, I nearly ended up with tears streaming down my face. And you know what? That would have been ok too.
"She’s put her trust in a God who . . . who maybe doesn’t make every crack disappear, but who holds all her broken pieces tenderly. Who heals her simply by being with her. Staying with her.”
I loved this book. Not just the message that feeling broken is ok. That feeling like I have a million questions with no answers is ok. But the story was beautiful. One of pain, but also one of love. Of heartache, but also of forgiveness. Indi is truly a heroine I can relate to. She's broken, but healing and living her life. Yes, with questions, but that's part of the beauty.
Of course the story was a wonderful continuation of the first book and I can't wait for book 3 in the series. Especially when I get 93% of the way through the book and scream "what?"! Yes. I laughed. I cried. Then I screamed out loud. Read it and you'll understand.
OH MY GOODNESS! This story is so good! I loved revisiting the characters of Muir Harbor and the Muir family. I love the chemistry between the characters and the sweet and salty scenes of family. The various plot lines were woven together to create a beautiful tapestry that showed the true beauty in regrets and reconciliation and loss and love. Highly recommend!
Oh my word! I hardly have words for how much this book and these characters and the lessons about faith have touched my heart! Sometimes when I read a series of books, I often wonder if I’ll care as much about the characters who become the focus in the subsequent books as I did for the characters in the first book. Well, I completely fell in love with Indi and Philip and Holland, and even Grandfather by the end. While I have not experienced all of the situations they have, the questions and doubts and fears are so familiar. And I don’t know if I’ve ever read a more realistic portrayal of a panic attack. As someone who has experienced those awful, debilitating moments, I could relate to every single part of that scene. It was so well done. While some of the subject matter was heavy, it was all handled with tender care. The book certainly has many lighthearted moments, too. The meet-cute between Indi and Philip was so
charming! Hello, you had me at the Narnia reference, and the “adorkable” male main character with dimples and a stutter. I cannot wait to read the third book in this series! Melissa Tagg has become a must-read author for me!
This book was exactly what the Lord needed me to read at this exact time. Reading about letting God into your pain, was so freeing. I was crying reading this book and screen spotted sections to remind myself of who God is. Thank you Melissa for writing this book and being used by God to speak to my soul and encourage this weary heart.
A Seaside Wonder is the second book in the Muir Harbor series. While there are separate romances and mysteries that are the main focus in each book, there is also a mystery that continues on throughout the series. As such, I definitely feel like this is one that is best read in order to be able to fully understand and enjoy the story.
I like to think that I am typically fairly patient when it comes to waiting for a new book in a series to come out... but I must admit that was not the case with this one. From the moment I finished the first book, I found myself wanting to get my hands on the next. It was a first book by Melissa Tagg for me, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided to go back and find more by her to read while I waited. The more I read of her previous books, the higher up she moved on my must read authors list. With all that anticipation built up, I had extremely high hopes for this one.
And it 100% delivered!
Right from the start, I was once again drawn into this small town and this rather unique family. I enjoyed Indi and Phillip's romance, with their adorable and hilarious meet cute... this story had it's own mystery to figure out, but also picked up on the mystery of Maggie's granddaughter from the previous book as well. That mystery will continue on through the next, and once again I find myself needing to know what's going to happen next...in the best way possible. This story offered such a fantastic blend of humor, romance, mystery and heart... and I absolutely love it!
This is one absolutely not to be missed!
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
This is book two of the Muir Harbor series. I have been looking forward to Indie and Philips story since November 2021 and it was worth the wait! Sooo many feels and such a beautiful message.
Indie has had to make some heartbreaking decisions in life. It seems like she’s hit with one thing after another. I related to her so much, the feeling like an outsider and being an artist, and the disconnect with it when life gets messy.
Philip’s life is turned upside down after the death of his mother and becoming the guardian of his teenage sister he doesn’t really know. He is so sweet and charming in a nerdy way. I loved every part of him!
Philip and Indie’s meet cute was the best ever! I truly loved how their relationship blossomed, they were so supportive of each others situations. It felt very natural.
There was a lot going on with mysteries, family dynamics and of course romance. I do wish the book was a bit longer so everything could be spread out a little more but I just love this series, it could never be too long for me.
There is an ongoing mystery that starts with book one so I definitely suggest reading Autumn by the Sea first.
I’m excited for book three!
I received an eARC from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review.
This is a story of family - what makes a family, all the love and longing, the messy and the confusing, the holding on and letting go. It’s touching, frustrating, emotional, and captivating. An ongoing mystery that weaves throughout the series adds more intrigue and suspense, making this book hard to put down. I loved Indi and Philip, Holland, and all of the Muir family and friends. I loved this book and eagerly await the next book in the series.
