The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is the fourth Hercule Poirot mystery by Dame Agatha Christie. Originally published in 1926, this gift edition was released 25th Oct 2022 by Penguin Random House on their Pushkin Vertigo imprint. It's 156 pages and is available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is one of the classics of crime literature and most readers who enjoy the genre can remember the delight of reading that shock twist ending. Now re-released in a new format with high quality production values and typesetting, I really enjoyed reading it again with "fresh eyes". I still enjoyed Poirot doing what he does so well, and as always, I noticed a few new details with every re-read.

It's a well written subtle and beautifully engineered plot. The denouement and resolution are classics. At the time it was written, it was a shocking departure. If it seems less so now, it's because so many authors who have come after Christie have borrowed her twists and tricks.

Five stars. Even for readers who have read it before, it makes a splendid re-read.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

An exceptional edition of one of Agatha Christie’s absolute best works. Truly the queen of mystery, confounding readers with her wit and storytelling the best she ever has. This was worth the re read for the story, the beautiful cover, and re-living Christie’s riveting tale.

I am going to be in the utter minority here and say that I DNF'ed this book, ekkk, I know, don't hurt me. People love this book but I just did not like the characters and I felt like the story jumped all over. Maybe I need to give it another chance but currently I am moving on to other books in my TBR.

I downloaded this random "read now" / "auto-approved" copy out of curiosity. Agatha Christie is highly revered but I've only read one other mystery by her (Murder on the Orient Express) and I wasn't impressed. Unfortunately, The Murder of Robert Ackroyd did not change my opinion. I understand and respect how her style revolutionized an entire genre but her storytelling is so roundabout and full of red herrings that I just both murders to be solved so the books would be over. If you love reading older books or classics you may like Christie's style of writing, but I felt like I was slogging over something for a college course--analyzing style rather than enjoying the text.

4 stars!

It was very special for me to read this book because it was one of the first books that got me into reading mysteries and thrillers. I think one of the best things about this book is its plot twist, which I still almost didn't see coming, and I definitely recommend to people who are looking to get into the mystery/thriller genre!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is another brilliantly written murder mystery story by Agatha Christie. The plot is well structured with a mind-blowing twist at the end which will quite shock the readers. I'm truly impressed by the craftsmanship of Agatha Christie in this particular story. She has a great ability to lead the plot without giving any hint or clue as to the guilty party until the very end. In this case, it was quite a shocking revelation.

Agatha Christie is the founder of murder mysteries in my opinion and I am so happy that I finally read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. This was just such a fun and classic Christie book with everything you could want in it! I highly recommend this book and author!

Anyone who’s a fan of Agatha Christie will enjoy this story. I was actually surprised when I realized I hadn’t read it yet. It was a quick read, with a bit of a twist in the end. The twist wasn’t super surprising, but it was still an enjoyable, classic read. It’s not my absolute favorite of her books, but still worth reading.

I absolutely LOVE Agatha Christie so when I saw that Pushkin Press was rereleasing The Death of Rodger Ackroyd I jumped at the opportunity to read and review it!

This mystery is told by the doctor who examines the bodies of two dead bodies, one being Rodger Ackroyd. His death has shaken the community and stumped the detectives. When the famous Hercule Poirot joins the investigation many secrets are exposed leading to a twisty, shaking, murder mystery.

I always enjoy a murder mystery especially one with Poirot. Though I inferred who the murderer was about 80% through the book I was still questioning my inference till it was finally revealed. This is my third book from the Hercule Poirot mystery novel and I really enjoyed how this one was written. I can't go into much more without spoilers.

3.5 stars rounded up🌟

What a fun read! This was my first Agatha Christie novel and now I’m asking myself why I waited so long to read her work. I’m a big fan of murder mysteries and whodunnits so I had a feeling this would be a lot of fun.

This had a pretty slow start for me (probably just because I took time getting used to her writing style), but once things started to pick up I didn’t want to put it down! I did guess who the murderer was quite a bit before it was revealed, but it was so enjoyable to follow Hercule Poirot and put my detective hat on for a while. And let me just say, even though I did guess the end, it was still incredibly fun to learn how everything went down.

This was so entertaining and a great read first read for November, as the vibes matched the season. I will definitely be picking up more Agatha Christie novels in the future!

If a vote were taken today on the best mystery writers in history, Agatha Christie would rank in the Top 5 on everyone's list. That is, if you ever read Agatha Christie's books and who can call themselves a fan of the genre without reading Christie. Her characters are all unique, each one memorable and none more than Hercule Poirot. Opening the book, you are immediately drawn into Poirot's world. His investigative skills are surprising, the clues given clear, yet not. I seldom solve a Christie mystery before the reveal and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is sure to keep the readers guessing until the very end. Known as one of Christie's best mysteries, it's a definite MUST read.

A beautifully produced edition of the world’s greatest crime writer’s best and most influential mystery, which changed the game with an unprecedented plot twist

With its famously shocking ending, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is one of Agatha Christie's greatest mysteries, and the book that changed her career.

One evening the wealthy Roger Ackroyd is discovered slumped in his armchair, a knife buried in his heart. It is the start of a murder case that spurs the inhabitants of the sleepy English village of King's Abbot to feverish speculation.

The local police are perplexed, but soon a recently retired Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, joins the investigation. The truth he uncovers will shock even the most imaginative of the village gossips

Best Agatha Christie's book! It's still so so so mind-blowing. I can't stop raving about this book. I definitely don't see that twist coming and now we get the deluxe ed from Pushkin Press, my fav murder mystery publisher.
Thanks for the ARC!

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, Deluxe Edition by Agatha Christie is the perfect book for any mystery lover. This is my first time reading this story and even after being in print for almost 100 years, I was shocked by the twisted ending. Hercule Poirot has done it again. Classics are classics for a reason. Agatha Christie was a phenom and I highly recommend this book..

This was such a good read!

I’m a big fan of Christie’s Poirot stories ever since I read murder on the orient express and this was no different. A fantastic who done it that will keep you on the edge of your seats!

Whether you are new to the world of Agatha Christie or a die-hard fan, you will love this book. This is the book that jump-started her career. When Roger Ackroyd is found stabbed to death in his locked study, Hercule Poirot is called in to aid inspectors in solving the case. M.Poirot and his "little grey cells" , as he so famously calls them never fail to solve even to the most perplexing of cases, and this is one has a twist that you may not see coming. I highly recommend it!

While i'm not an expert on Christie's writing, this book was a surprise for me, as I felt like it deviated from the typical set she has (in the very few Poirot stories i've read). The narration is a written account from Dr. Sheppard, a doctor well acquainted with the victim and who serves as Poirot's sidekick throughout the story. This narration style confused me at first, but it ended up working great because I was completely surprised by the plot twist because of it. I spent the whole story wondering who the murderer could be, because none of the suspects seemed to be the one who actually did it, so when they reveal <spoiler> that Dr. Sheppard was the culprit </spoiler> I was shocked, but it made sense. The rest of the book is pretty standard mystery storytelling, though the shock of the reveal was enough to make the book even better for me. I did not really like that <spoiler> Poirot seemed to be pushing Sheppard into committing suicide </spoiler> it seemed really strange and out of character. But, I can see why this story is a classic, it was definitely worth reading.

This is one of my favorite books, with one of the best twists of all time. Yes, I'm a huge fan of just about everything Christie wrote--but this has always topped the list for me. I'm so happy to see this is getting a special edition--well deserved!
