An easy way to learn about plants. Where do they come from? The evolution of plants, until their part in our modern days. Easily explained for kids, this book might be a wonderful company for those curious minds. Was reminded of my biology days back in elementary school, but in a fun way.
One of a series of four, this book – that makes a virtue out of being excessively cartoonish, visuals-wise – is the prehistory of plants, from when the first algae grew in the shallow seas of the Earth 700 million years ago, to today's industrial agriculture and rainforests. The leaf that narrates it all is quite engaging, to such an extent you can almost forget the framing device that is the reason for the lesson in the first place. I think many teachers would approve of this volume – while it does look very simplistic in the design it does not shirk from giving us secondary school terms and all we would need and more to begin to understand and appreciate plant-life at a young age. This then is accessible and appreciable science, done very well. A strong four stars.
A wonderful science graphic novel for older elementary school and beyond. The illustrations in this book are so full of details and eye catching. Steve Foxe writes detailed, scientific information to help the reader understand plants and the history of plants. I found myself learning information I was not aware of especially with how plants and trees came to be on Earth. At the end of the book, you can also find a glossary and other research information. Thank you to NetGalley and Capstone Press for an advanced copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
This book has good text features--table of contents, glossary, more information section, citations. It is a graphic novel with cartoon illustrations. Therefore, it would give a generalized idea, but not accurate visual for children.
The Amazing Journey From Moss to Rainforests is a graphic novel my students will enjoy. The detailed illustrations and comic format will make it a quick and informative read.
This is a short but informative history of plants. The graphics are eye-catching, and children will enjoy the use of photographs as well. Children will get a kick out of the leaf’s sense of humor. It’s written for upper elementary children who already have some
background in earth science.
I loved this book and it is perfect for young nature lovers!
