This was a good book, but a bit lengthy. I listened to it October/November, so it was the perfect time of year to listen to this. There were lots of details in the story, so it would be a good book if you wanted a student to learn about description and adjectives. I liked that the ending was happy, but a little bittersweet. It revolved around family past and present. So it touched the heartstrings.
This book was a bit different because of the paranormal and how others perceive "ghosts" or spirits. I feel this book could grab the attention of either a girl or a boy.

I know I am not the target audience for this book but as an educator I love to read children as well as YA stories. When parents find out that I am an avid reader they’ll often ask if I have any recommendations. ~ I can always say~ as a matter of fact - Yes I do!
Want to thank NetGalley and Harper Audio for granted me the pleasure of listening to this VoiceGalley-.Advance audio edition. A Voice galley is a synthetic voice and not a profession human narrator. Publishing Release Date is scheduled for March 7, 2023

When kids start going missing Calista is hoping to help, but this puts her and her family in danger. Calista will have to draw on her strength and love to help those in need. The characters are intriguing and shows how families pull together in times of need.
Voice Galley Review - What Stays Buried is a unique story about a 12 year old medium who deals with loss and helps other deal with loss. Calista can see ghosts and helps families come to terms with the loss of their loved ones by acting as an interpreter between the dead and the living. Hand this to middle school readers who enjoy a spooky story with meaning.
Thank you so Netgalley and Harper Collins for allowing me to enjoy this audio arc in exchange for my honest review!
I don't want to be dramatic but I adored this book. This book was so precious, heartwarming and also just deeply poignant in a way I was not ready for. The main character, her personality and her family charmed me and I fell in love with their story. The author did a wonderful job of weaving in the supernatural details in a believable, endearing way. I cried several times; it was a great little wholesome, spooky coming of age story and I highly recommend it.
Calista Wynn is a medium. She sees ghosts and helps them cross over. When a boy visits her one morning, she is surprised to discover he's one of the local missing children. Set to find the others before it's too late, Calista enlists the help of her father and grandmother as well as a classmate. However, the Tall Lady has other plans and the two enter a battle of life and death.
This story has a lot of heart and deals with the grief of losing a loved one. Calista is brave and loyal. Viewed a bit as an outcast by her classmates, she struggles to fit in. But she's always true to herself. And in the end, she finds true friendship.
