Cinderella Speaks Up
I would definitely recommend this book, it is always important to express what you are feeling with the right words so the others can understand their stand of point and view on any circumstances at life. Speaking up and make a big difference in life which Mari Bolte teaches us and specially for small kids to grow up with acceptance and perseverance. Thank you for letting me view Cinderella Speaks Up , I wish it were longer loved it
This was an adorable take on the classic story of Cinderella. The illustrations are beautiful too. A wonderfully modern interpretation of Cinderella.
Okay, but this was so cute. I loved the art style and the story and the characters were so fun. I loved the way they all talked it out and scheduled family therapy to work on their problems. I definitely recommend.
A short and sweet graphic novel with a nice take on the original Cinderella story, complete with additional questions to prompt children to think further on the story and what could happen next.
This book wasn't my cup of tea. I thought that Kaita would be transformed to Ciderella not actually be in the story as herself. And sometimes she was rude. I didn't like it. At all.
I really loved the illustrations on this book! They're so fun and colorful. And I love how this has somekind of modern vide to it. The story teaches how to express yourself and how to stand up to bullies.
Thanks, Netgalley for giving me a chance to review this!
Quick and easy read! Love the concept of the book and the plot. Definitely felt like a different approach to Cinderella that I never really thought about. This book can help with the mental health stigma in some way.
I want to start by saying that I love the idea and the concepts shared in this book to change the story of Cinderella. However, the dialogue was too simplistic. It was dull and came off as a rough draft. I wish there was more substance; more storyline to add. I understand this is a 33-page graphic novel for children, but children can comprehend more than we believe. This just didn't offer enough.
So this was a pleasant surprise! This is a modern take on Cinderella, and I have lots of thoughts:
- cute art style with simple but powerful wording that I can see many of my younger students connecting with.
- pays homage to the original whilst also saying what we’re all thinking regarding the fairytale insta-love… “Have you ever met the prince?”
- there could have been some more description rather than just dialogue to make the reading a bit meatier.
- the explanation of the name Cinderella could have been clearer, a lot of my students may not have understood.
- positive messaging, particularly for blended families. “There’s enough love for everyone” - my heart!
- there are writing and discussion points at the end! It’s so important that children engage with what they read, and the author has provided a great starting point.
Overall, a really enjoyable little read!
With thanks to Netgalley for providing a digital copy in exchange for my thoughts.
I absolutely adored this book! I will recommend it to every student I have that fits the genre and their interests! The art was outstanding and fit the narrative structure very well!
There are a lot of good things going on in this book.
I enjoyed the modern additions to Cinderella (the robot vacuum and quick shipping comments were so fun). I enjoyed the fact that they talked about going to therapy as a family (even though it was only one comment). The illustrations were absolutely adorable. I like that it provided an alternate happy ending to the story where the family all gets along. I also loved the prompts at the end of the book and that they story had what appeared as virtually diverse characters.
There were several things I didn't like as well. I did not appreciate the way in which Kaitia spoke to the step mother and the father. I wish that Kaitia would have empowered Cinderella to stand up to her step sisters instead of doing it for her. Cinderella had zero depth as a character.
Overall 3.5 stars.
I loved this and will be getting this book for my niece! I thought this was such a great kids read. It had a great message of being true to yourself and to always express how you feel. It was perfect and easy to read for littles. The graphics were so pretty and vibrant. I recommend 100%!

🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ Teaches children to look out for things that may not be fair
~ Teaches children to make observations
Cinderella gets a visiting friend from a more modern time. Together, they fight the injustices of her cleaning alone, of how her family treats her & the questions of arranged unions.
It is a very quick read & while it encourages children to speak up, I wasn’t very comfortable with the tone & exactly HOW it was done. It made me somewhst uncomfy 🤣, but it’s just s cultural perception thing, not any flaw of the story itself.

Thank you so much Netgalley for the ARC!
Personal Rating : ⭐⭐⭐.5 / 5.
It was okayish. I liked how Kaita had appropriate responses to all the toxic behaviors in 'Cinderella', helped her to be bolder and have more self-respect. it's hilarious at times, sometimes too dramatic but the plot had more potential. The exercises at the end were great! It would help the kids to ponder on what they read and apply it to real life. Recommended!
This is a cute short version of Cinderella in which a modern kid from the present goes back to help out. She tells Cinderella, really Ella, that she should speak out more, and stand up for herself.
And not to go to the ball because she wants to marry someone she has never met, even though he is a prince.
She even gets the stepmother to apologize for being a shrew.
The book ends with having the reader think about what they read, and how Ella dealt with bullies, and how one should deal with the same.
Cute book to get kids thinking beyond what they read in fairy tales.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the illustrations in this book, but the story left something to be desired. I think that it got too bogged down in trying to make a bunch of different points that it became that instead of a story. I think if it had focused on one or two things like Ella standing up for herself and her family realizing they all needed to show each other more love. If felt like someone took all the things they dislike about the Cinderella story and mushing it together, not that I don't think there are a lot of problems with some of the stuff in Cinderella, it just made the story seem less of a story.
