Welcome to the Fletcher family where family comes first. This is the type of family that has each other’s backs. They support each other and work together. They are a united front working to protect each other from outside influences.
The Fletchers own a restaurant/bar in Dorset. It’s a family business with them grooming the boys to take over. Currently Sebastian, Brian, and Lilian live above the bar. Felix lives in a cottage with his wife and baby.
Sebastian went to Australia for four weeks and returned with a wife. Let’s just say his parents were more than shocked. Afterall, this was a tight knit family. Of course, Lilian is flabbergasted to have a stranger in her home. They thought they raised a better son not one to make impulsive decisions.
With Caroline moving in its a little cramped with very little privacy. But they manage to stay busy with the restaurant and bar.
The relationship between Lilian and Caroline is tense as they navigate working and living together. Caroline’s assimilation into Sebastian’s life is a difficult one. She’s had a few bad run-ins with customers and co-workers, and family.
I love Shalini Boland’s thriller book series. I’m quick on the one-click buy option everytime she releases a new book. I’ve read every thriller book written. I’m always eager for a new book release. The Daughter-In-Law started off with a slow-burn as we get acquainted with all the characters and the bar setting. The story really comes alive at the halfway point. It’s at this point where all the exciting twists and turns begin to play out.

The Daughter In Law by Shalini Boland is ANOTHER. SHALINI. BOOK. YOU. NEED. TO. READ! If you have followed me for a while, you now know I’m obsessed with her books. 🤩 They’re fast, gripping, and such pages turners! This book was no different. I was confused about a decision the author made about 3/4ths in. 🤔 But it ended up working and I finished this book in a day! 🙌🏻

Shalini Boland has done it yet again with The Daughter-in-Law. This one is a ride from beginning to end, and I could not turn the pages quickly enough.

Caroline arrives in the UK from Australia with new husband Seb. Their arrival is a shock to her new in-laws, who knew nothing of this young woman who has suddenly become a part of the family. Seb's mother Lilian is frosty from the start, and her interactions with Caroline go from bad to worse as she treats her as nothing more than an unwelcome interloper. But Caroline has secrets of her own, and what transpires will shock you to your core.

This is Ms Boland at her very best, and I was completely riveted from the very first page. Twisty and addictive, this is one you do not want to miss.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

What I love about Shalini Boland books is that you know you are in good hands.

When Caroline goes to live with her new husband. Seb's family they aren't the most welcoming, especially the Mother-in-law.

Caroline struggles to settle in and we know from the prologue that someone is a killer, I suspected everyone, including the lady who delivers the veg to the pub the family work in.

As usual, it's a twist you don't see coming.

Another great read, raced through it.

Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this is my honest opinion.

Shalini ‘The Fixer’ Boland does it again! She has written yet another 5-star psychological thriller that had me glued to the pages, kept me guessing and left me gobsmacked.

I’ll unabashedly admit that I didn’t even read the synopsis; it was a Boland book and I knew I wanted it! Why? Because The Queen of Psychological Thrillers writes from the perfect recipe leaving very satisfied readers who are overly anxious awaiting the next thriller.

Boland has laser-focused expertise in keeping her readers interested. She engages the readers quickly and rearranges her story structure to withhold information. In this case, the prologue is the perfect hook and it’s not until the end that the thread is picked up again, leaving readers with yet another twist. Who is digging the grave? Who was murdered? Why? Boland knows how to withhold just enough that it makes room in her reader's mind for questions. This is how she ensures that we’ll keep reading.

I love how the author’s protagonists are put in a position where they need to resort to something extraordinary to get the information they seek. In this case, it involves hoodwinking and the protagonist gets more than she bargained for. Stalbridge in the Blackmore Vale has some buried secrets and unearthing them will destroy families and businesses. You know what they say about secrets, right? They can’t stay buried.

Boland is a master manipulator, making us question which of her characters we should trust. The employees at the Royal Oak pub are hiding something and the inlaws are way too involved in their sons’ lives for it to be healthy. Why? Boland keeps the lid on the secrets long enough by drip-feeding her readers just enough information in nearly every chapter to keep them in the dark while maintaining a good command of the tension.

I turned over the last page - she got me AGAIN! I love authors who can continually pull the wool over my eyes and surprise me. You have an incredible gift, Ms. Boland. Thanks for sharing it with us.

An absolutely fantastic psychological thriller that you must put on your reading list now!

I was gifted this advance copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Another fast paced, gripping psychological thriller by one of my favourite authors Shalini Boland. The pace of this novel pulls you along at a breakneck speed and keeping you guessing right to the very end.

Seb and Caroline have a whirlwind romance and get married in Australia where Caroline lives. Now they are back in the UK and Caroline is about to meet Seb’s family for the first time. Caroline receives quite an icy greeting from Seb’s mother Lilian who is very protective of her youngest son. The newly married couple move in the family home which doubles as a restaurant business run by the in laws Lilian and Brian.

It’s not long before incidents start occurring that reflect rather badly on Caroline, leaving Lilian wondering what sort of woman has married her precious son. Tensions are rising and are not helped by the secrets that are been kept by more than one of the family.

This is a gripping read, written in the usual fast paced, twisty style of author Shalini Boland.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

My Review:
Wow!!!!! This author is one of my favorites and I just love her books so much. I have read almost every book she’s ever written so far and I have enjoyed them all. She is the epitome of what a psychological thriller should look like. Her books have everything you would want in a perfect read. They all have fantastic characters, great story lines that keep you interested the whole way through and of course my favorite the shocking endings. I can’t say enough good things about this author. Now let’s talk about this awesome book. All the characters had something hide and were just the right amount of evil. I just knew the past would catch up with each and every one of them like it did. You can never truly run away and keep your secrets hidden forever. The story kept me captivated and kept me racing through each chapter to find out what was going to happen next. I couldn’t read this one fast enough. Oh and that ending nearly gave me a heart attack. Don’t even get me started on those the last few pages. They left me completely speechless. I can’t wait to read more books by this author.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Daughter-in-Law by Shalini Boland. Mystery within a family drama with a couple of unexpected twists. Some likeable characters and some that are hard to relate to. There are underlining secrets that effect the relationship between Caroline and Seb and Caroline and other members of the family, Lilian, Brian and Felix. Fast and entertaining read.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

When I see there is a new book from this author, I just try and move the earth in order to fit the book into my schedule. I know I could still read it later, but her characters just keep calling my name until I give in. 😉

I was able to download the book at the perfect time. I just finish a book and I was ready to dive in straight away.

Her books are so easy to read. This does not mean she does not add any surprises or twist and turns. It does not imply either her stories are simple. Not at all!! They just suck you in and you are lost. This is the kind of book that really relaxes you even though they are putting you on the edge of your seat. It might seem strange. On the edge of your seat and relaxing… but that’s how I feel about them.

They are very straightforward and I just cannot get enough of them.

Don’t get me wrong. I also like thriller that fry your brain when you are trying to figure everything out.

I think I just realised while writing this how to explain it maybe better. In some books you have to look for a killer who might be, in a matter of speech, hiding somewhere on the planet. With this author’s books, you know you have to look for the culprit in a smaller circle.

Did that help me uncovering the baddie? No; of course not. 😊

Whether I figure something out or not, I don’t really care. It’s the storytelling that does it for me.

How many stars for this author’s storytelling? 5, of course! 😉

Thank you

Whenever a new book comes out by this author I always know I won’t be able to put it down until it’s finished and this one was no exception and read it in one sitting. This was a slow burning psychological family drama which had lots of twists and turns and lots of deep dark secrets which were buried within the family.

This story makes you question that is anyone who they seem on the surface and what is really going on deep down.

This authors books would make fantastic tv adaptations. Already looking forward to this authors next book.

As soon as I saw this was available it went straight to the top of my reading list and i flew through it in a morning! There are very few characters led books that manage to get the hooked but this one just socks you right in. It's so cleverly written with so many layers that you just have to keep reading to get to the bottom of what's gone on. The characters are all well rounded and realistic, without the ones that make stupid and unrealistic choices just to further the plot. These are like real people with real problems and it makes it so relatable. It's multiple POV but each view point is distinct and there's never any blurring or confusion. And the twists and turns had my jae on the floor. Just when you think it's all bn revealed....... another one is throw in to completely rock your world. As always, a must read!!
