KL slater has done it again! She manages to make each book unique yet relatable! Full of twists and turns, you cannot imagine where it is going! Fab read!
#TheGirlfriend #NetGalley This was a psychological thriller with so many twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book! Well written and fast paced with lots of action. I didn't warm to Sara's character but then I guess I wasn't supposed to! I enjoyed this book and will look for more from this author.
My husband’s dead. She’s at my door. She owns my home…
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her buttery blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms.
As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts.
She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I know this will be hard to hear. But I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.’
My world implodes. And then she tells me that she owns our home – and that she’s not going anywhere…
This was good, I wasn't quite expecting the accountant to the the one behind it all. So i would recomend this book.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. HOLY COW this book will take you on a crazy ride with so many twists and turns. You truly will not see them coming. I could NOT put this book down and finished it in one day! So, so good. Read it ASAP!

This was my first KL Slater book and will not be my last. A novel full of twists and turns, fast paced, and kept my attention.

Another great psychological thriller. By K. L. Slater. This story was full of twists and turns. The plot was fast paced and the characters were interesting to say the least.

Another fantastic psychological thriller from K L Slater.
As usual interesting and intriguing from the start and very hard to put down. lots of twists and turns to keep it interesting throughout. An inventive plot of just after Jennifer learns of her husband's death, his girlfriend Sara, turns up on her doorstep with his baby and wants to move in with Jennifer's family.
I had no idea at times as to where this book was heading and did think at times it was a little over the top, but its still a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A big thanks to Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
I absolutely love this author. You just know your getting an exciting read. She never lets you down. This plot was so different. I couldn’t put it down. The author always seem to find a fresh new plot. It was gripping. A real page turner. Very well written
I have read other books by this author and always find that if you can accept that the characters are unpleasant, the plot crazy and unlikely, and the switching between timelines and different PoVs not always well done, then ithey are a surprisingly entertaining read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and K.L Slater for an ARC in return for an honest review.
The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater.
K.L Slater is one of my favourite authors - there isn't one book of hers that I don't like. This book is no different.
I read it in one sitting as I physically couldn't put it down, absolutely outstanding!
It is dark and gritty with unexpected twists.
I can't recommend enough!
have to give this 5* if I could give more, I certain would.
This one kept me on my toes.
Your husband dies.
Leaving you with 2 children.
Then who turns up? His girlfriend!
With a son who she says belongs to her husband and not only that……..
I’m not saying any more.
This was twist upon twist, discovery after discovery.
Unnerving and absolutely well played out.
I’m on a K.L. Slater binge at the moment and thoroughly having a great time.
Have you read this?
If you love a domestic, a thriller and a good time, get this.
A seasoned writer of thrillers, K.L. Slater did not disappoint with The Girlfriend. It's difficult in this day and age to write a story that's different from the thousands of others out there, but this was original and well-thought out. It was fast paced and tense, secrets were exposed that I never saw coming and it kept me hooked until the last page.
Unputdownable story with a great plot and twists throughout. Losing your husband but then discovering he had a girlfriend and son completely rocks your world. Original and brilliant
I really was entertained by this story. I liked the premise, pace and characters (even the awful ones). There were quite a few twists and red herrings. Some were anticipated, but many were not! There were a few dramatic events which highlighted how truly horrible some (if not most) of these characters were. One of the last reveals was pretty dismal and took away from any good feelings I had towards our narrator. The conclusion wrapped up things in a bow. I wasn’t upset about that. I enjoyed this as I have with each of this author’s stories. I look forward to the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.
I have enjoyed reading all the books by K L Slater but I didn’t think that this was one of the best. Jennifer and Cole are married with two children but have had a bit of a rocky marriage but all seems well at the moment. Jennifer is preparing a Halloween party when the police turn up and inform her that Cole has had a car crash and is dead. Whilst Jennifer is coming to terms with this she receives a visitor. It is Sarah, with the devastating news that she has been having an affair with Cole. But more upsetting for Jennifer is that she is holding a baby who she claims is Cole’s. Jennifer is reeling from these revelations but there is even worse news, Sarah informs her that Cole’s business was in trouble and she saved it by investing in it, so that means the house and contents etc are hers. Jennifer anticipates that she and her children will be evicted but Sarah has other plans. She wants to move in but wants Jennifer and her family to live there as well. Jennifer wonders how Cole managed to let things get into this state especially as the police seem to think that his death may not have been an accident. As Sarah starts manipulating all the family Jennifer realises that there is more to Sarah’s story and vows to uncover the truth and as the story progresses more and more lies and secrets are uncovered. An enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
The book was absolutely amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed. I definitely will be reading more from this author
I've enjoyed books by KL Slater before so was excited to jump in with this one.
I did enjoy the story but I can't say I loved it and would rush out to tell friends and family how they MUST grab a copy.
I could empathise with Jennifer who was put in an impossible position and I really routed for her troubled teenage son (I have a very similar boy) so I loved how she fought for him. But on occasions the plot felt just too far fetched.
I read alot worse thrillers so it's worth giving it a go and you'll find some twists and turns towards near the end but nothing to gasp out loud to.
An easy read with a main character you just want to give some love to as despite having friends and family she doesn't appear to have anyone who really cares about her which I found so sad.
I'd rate a 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.

K.L. Slater has done it again with another amazingly brilliant psychological thriller!
Twists and turns galore we start with Jennifer, a wife and mother of two setting up the annual party for Halloween and celebrating her birthday. Her husband, Cole acts strangely and goes out and the next thing Jennifer knows is that he is dead. To add the sucker punch. His girlfriend turns up at the house with her baby and informs Jennifer she owns the house and is moving in.
This turned out to be so gripping I could not put it down as everything unravelled. I was in complete shock by the ending.
This kept me hooked from start to finish.
