This was a very nice interesting and intriguing book. It was well written, and grabbed my attention from the first page! 5 stars! XO
Really enjoyed this book, great twist on the usual ‘ my husband has had an affair’ storyline and working out what has happened to each of the characters and their involvement with the plot (and wider plot) got me guessing (wrongly) a few times.
Lots of characters to get to grips with and work out complicated relationship angles - I chewed through this quickly and enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. #TheGirlfriend
K.L. Slater is either a hit or a miss for me - there seems to be no in between.
This one was not my favorite. When I came back to write this review, I actually forgot the plot of the entire book...oops.
This family is seriously MESSY. I liked the drama, I liked the multiple POVs, I just didn't love the story.
I'll keep picking up K.L. Slater books because when they work for me, they are deliciously good.
If you want a book that will have you experience any emotion imaginable- this is the book for you. I can't wait to read more from this author!!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“I’ll do anything it takes to protect my children and keep our family together. The secret I’m holding proves that.”
Read if you like:
- multiple POV
- domestic thrillers
- short chapters
- mistress vs. wife drama
Jennifer’s perfect life comes crashing down the day she finds out that her husband died in a car accident… Until his mistress comes knocking on her door telling her that she owns the house/cars/money etc. Ohhhh and she has his baby! What’s a girl to do other than invite her to come and live in your house with your family 🤣
Another absolute BANGERRRRR from K. L. Slater!! Every single book this lady writes is absolutely fantastic, and The Girlfriend is no different.
I love a multiple POV because I get to piece together many sides of the story. I also liked the police department POV in there, that was cool.
There were many characters in this book but it was very easy to keep them all apart. None of the characters in the book were likeable to me lol, but it went perfectly with the story.
This book starts off slow and I admit I was confused where the story was going for the first bit, but of course it all came together in the end. I did not see the twists coming, which is exactly what I want in a thriller!
When Sara is told that her husband has died, she knows her world will never be the same again.
What she doesn't expect, is a knock on the door from a girl claiming to be her husband's girlfriend, and the rightful owner of every possession her family has left.
But this is just the beginning.
A book of secrets, lies and deceits - and the lengths people will go to in order to hide them. A fast-paced and intriguing read that kept me captivated right until the end.
3 stars ⭐⭐⭐
Special thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I thought this book was really good! Unfortunately I didn't know how to get it sent over to my Kindle for a long time so I couldn't rate it until now. I will definitely be looking into more books by KL Slater after this. It was a page turner :)
What a fantastic read! This book kept me on my toes the entire time. While some of the storyline seemed a little predictable, particularly in the beginning, the twist at the end was SHOCKING. I picked the book up at the beginning of the weekend and could not put it down until I finished it!
Cole and Jennifer seem to have the perfect life from the outside, but of course nothing is as it seems. This book delves deep into their past and Jennifer’s uncertain future.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first KL Slater book.
Loved the storyline and twists!
Loved how the characters could each have been the “who done it?”
Good storytelling .
I did find the style of writing sometimes too detailed and descriptive which I believe lengthened the book. Which made me skim through a few areas in the book.
But that didn’t take away from me wanting to complete the book.
I will read other books by this author.
Thankyou to Net Galley, Author KLSlater and Bookouture publishing for the opportunity to read this book.
Too slow for me and at times a little dull. I liked the premise but there wasn’t any real hook. I think this could be a good read for anyone new to the genre though.
I felt this book slow paced and predictable. The twists are not that big and the usual turning the tables in the conclusion are absent.
Oh my goodness!!! The first book I have read by this author and what a read. I was hooked from page one and read it in two nights - full of twists and turns and I couldn’t turn the page quick enough. Loved the storyline and style of writing highly recommend
This book start off similar to several others in this genre but turns out to be quite the ride. There are lots of twists that keep the reader guessing.
KL Slater has yet again written another brilliant thriller.
The story she weaves starts with Jennifer and Cole, a married couple with two kids getting ready to celebrate Halloween with a big party. How quickly she turns the tide to what should be a fun night to someone dying and the big question was it murder or a car accident?
Slater uses her brilliant creativity to keep you intrigued and guessing throughout this book and the big plot twist definitely took me by surprise.
I highly recommend this new thriller by Slater and her previous novels also!
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC for an honest review.
You are planning a spectacular Halloween party for the neighbourhood and next thing you know the police show up on your doorstep telling you your husband was in an accident. Not only that but the same day a woman shows up on your doorstep with a baby and she is claiming to be your husband's girlfriend. If that wasn't enough to send you over the edge, turns out she also owns all your assets, bank accounts and the house you are currently living in. If you are not ready for the nervous breakdown...just wait she isn't kicking you out. She wants to move in with you so the kids can all get to know each other as they are half siblings.....WOW I need more wine for this one. It was a great story and kept me glued in order to find out how the hell they were going to end this one. 4 stars for me.....Enjoy!!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read The girlfriend by K.L. Slater. While the author has written quite a few thrillers, this is my first book by her, and at first I found the style of writing and the first couple of chapters hard to get into...but that was just me. Once I finally settled down to really start reading I was hooked, and had to continue reading to see what happened next! This fast paced, twisty thriller ended up being my type of book, and the author is now on my TBR list!
I absolutely loved this book! I’ve been in abit of a reading slump but this kept me engrossed the entire way through it. I felt on edge reading this which is a good thing with a thriller! I couldn’t wait to get to the end to see what happened and wow what an ending!
Love this authors work
Wow wow wow. This author is just brilliant delivering absolutely incredible page turners every single time..I loved loved loved this one. Just wow.
This is a wild story full of lies and deceit. When Jennifer’s husband unexpectedly dies, she worries about her grieving children. Not even a day later does a young lady, Sara, knock on her door with a baby boy
This Sara claims to own the house she lives in and also drops a bombshell about Jennifer’s husband Cole. The only way to fix things? Sara suggests, more forces, herself and her baby to move in with Jennifer and her two kids
Told in alternating character POV and timeline, this is a gripping domestic thriller with an ending you won’t predict!
Jennifer's husband Cole isn't perfect, but he tries. He works hard, has a successful business. and keeps their family safe. They are happy.
Or so she thought...
When Cole is killed in a car accident, Jennifer is beside herself with grief, and worried about her children.
But her nightmare is just beginning.
When a woman with a baby turns up on her doorstep saying that she is Cole's girlfriend and the baby is their Son, Jennifer is distraught. But what comes next is even more shocking.
Through some business arrangement that Jennifer has no knowledge of, her late husband's girlfriend actually owns her house.
Faced with homelessness Jennifer makes a decision that will come back to haunt her, but at the time, it is the only rational thing she can think of.
This is one of those that I don't want to share too much about, or give anything away...
It's a fast paced novel with lots of surprises! The Girlfriend is another great novel by K.L. Slater. and I can't for the next.
