A jaw dropping, insane, fast paced read. This was a wild ride for sure! What a creative plot. Amazing characters with some seriously creepy twists and turns along the way. You don’t have any idea what’s coming on the next page. So many “wait what!” Moments.
A page turner for sure.
Characters were beautifully written and relateable

This has to ge my favourite K.L. Slater book to date!
Whilst it took a couple of chapters to get going, once it did, I raced through it! I couldn't put it down. The sense of intrigue and confusion keeps the pages turning, and is extremely well paced.
I liked the characters and felt the protagonist's heartache whilst she grieved for her husband and dealt with the aftermath and fallout of his death. She thinks she knew him, but she was wrong. Slater has a great balance here of character development and plot, and I think it is difficult for authors to accomplish both equally well.
A great addition to the thriller genre and one I would definitely recommend.

Very interesting but a little slow at first. The author develops the characters nicely. Even though the story jumps around I didn't find it too hard to follow. The story picks up and wraps up nicely at the end. So overall I enjoyed the book as I have others from this same author. Thank you too Netgalley, the author and publisher for the advanced copy. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I so enjoyed this book and I could not put it down. Jennifer's husband, Cole, is killed in a car accident. Sarah shows up at her door with a baby claiming that she was having an affair with Cole and that he is the father. To make things even worst, Sarah tells Jennifer that Cole was going to leave her and that she let him borrow alot of money to avoid bankruptcy and that the house belongs to her. So Sarah suggests they all live in the house like one big happy family. The book is told in parts but really easy to follow

Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouter and K L Slater for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy of THE GIRLFRIEND..

I read this fast-paced psychological thriller in one sitting. It was amazingly intricate in it’s character development. The characters were real and believable. I couldn’t figure out who to believe and who not to trust. It was a true thriller in that respect with all the twists and turns you could anticipate - and more! Excellent read.

Highly recommend this book. I can’t resist a novel that is about someone’s former life coming back to bite them and someone realizing that their spouse or significant other is not exactly who they thought they were this whole time…

K.L Slater is the master of plot twists! I devoured this intense thriller over a couple days. Just when you think you know what’s going on there is an about face and you are left picking up your jaw off the floor. A quick, entertaining read.

What a page turner, so many twists right until the end. A wife having to cope with grief at losing her husband and the news of an affair, trying to hold it together as her life falls apart. Really enjoyed this book.

Another enjoyable plot in The Girlfriend. Jenifer is preparing for a Halloween party when police arrive with the devastating news that her husband has been killed in a car accident. What’s more devastating is two days later her husbands girlfriend and six month old so turn up and end up living in the house with Jenifer and her two grieving children because the girlfriend owns the house!!

This story line is like something from Jerry Springer, it made for entertaining reading and I look forward to the next instalment every time I picked it up. The thing with K.L.Slater plots is you know what you are getting - strange and unique plots that are fast paced and keep you turning the pages. It was a very sudden ending, which was a little disappointing but overall very enjoyable.

I really like K.L. Slater’s books and this one is no exception. Jennifer Fincham’s life turns upside down when she discovers some secrets that her husband has been keeping from her. Lots of twists, turns, lies, and betrayal make up this thriller. 4/5 stars

This is the best book I’ve read in 2022! I couldn’t put this book down and when I did- I kept wondering what would happen next. The author has a talent for keeping the reader gripped. The wife in this story has a lot to deal with having losing her husband. However when his girlfriend shows up on his doorstep claiming she owns the home and the baby is his, the awkward confrontation unleashes a lot of twists and turns. Absolutely brillaint!

Cole and Jennifer Fincham, along with their children Miller, 13, and Silvie, 5, are planning their annual Halloween party. It’s a huge undertaking and costs quite a lot of money.

Secretly, Cole is worried that the bottom may drop out of his business but is trying to hold it all together. But he is killed when his car crashes.

Jennifer and the children are devastated. She is shocked to learn that Cole had a girlfriend, Sara and son by Cole, who is a baby. He had cheated on Jennifer before and she forgave him, but now her world is turned upside down. Sara informs her that it was her money that has been propping up Cole and his business and now she owns everything that they had. She claims that she is being nice by moving in with them and not kicking them out. Thus begins the tenuous life of a blended family.

I am on the fence about my feelings for this book. While the plot is good, unfortunately, the characters failed to grab me and make me feel for them. I really didn’t like any of them except for Jennifer’s Mum, the voice of reason in the book. I like this author and have read many of her books. I just wish I could have connected with the characters a bit more. But as the author created such a good plot, I am giving the book 4 stars.
