Amazing Romantic Story this a another book by Sandra Owens that had me hooked from the first page. Author has away of sucking me in to the world she creates and fall in love the characters that she writes. This story will capture you and the characters will steal your heart.
Kade and Harper story was more than I what I thought. Sandra making it really hard to stay loyal to one book boyfriend when she keeps writing heros so easy to fall for.
So if your looking for a thrilling suspense romance with humor that will have you turning the pages and keep you on the edge of your seat this one is a must read.
I love this book. I highly recommend this series . I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out. I love anything by Sandra Owens.
I'll start by admitting that I'm a fan of Sandra Owens K-9 novels, and I especially loved this one. I'm a sucker for a friends-to-lovers romance, and Ms. Owens really delivered that in Her Delta Force Protector, which gets 5 stars from this reader.
There was so much about this book I enjoyed from the very beginning, in which Kade learns that his best friend, Harper is somehow alive--he'd cried his eyes out 5 weeks earlier while attending the Celebration of Life held in her memory. Harper had to fake her own death after she got herself into a mess of trouble trying to find out what was going on with her roommate, Lisa, who'd undergone a complete personality change after hooking up with her new boyfriend--and she wouldn't even tell Harper his name. To say that Harper stepped into a nest of vipers is putting it mildly, and after one of them tracked her down, choked her into unconsciousness and broke a couple of her ribs, leaving her for dead, faking her own death seemed to be her best course of action. And that's just for starterss, so if you like romantic suspense, this novel will probably grab you just as it grabbed me.
Ms. Owens' previous heroes have had K-9 pals, but in this novel, the K-9 in question is Duke, a lovable, goofy, golden lab, who belongs to Harper, he's a military K-9 training drop-out, and some of Duke's antics and behaviors are laugh out loud funny--and a wonderful release from the suspense and tension of this story. He's been in the care of Kade's brother and his brother's family, which includes the utterly adorable 5-year-old "Pickle Princess," Everly, and it was wonderful to see her again in this novel. When someone starts shooting while Everly is playing in the yard, it's time for Kade and Harper to go into hiding and enlist the aid of some of the other past heroes we've met and new heroes to come. Handsome Kade's proximity to his beautiful best friend has some unintended consequences for them both, and there's no shortage of action, danger, suspense or sizzle to come.
In short, Her Delta Force Protector was everything I look for in a novel of romantic suspense, and if you're not already hooked on Ms. Owens' novels, I'm guessing you will be after reading this one.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.
This was such an exciting tjriller/suspense from a new to me author!
She did such an awesome job of keeping me on my toes or seat however you want to put it!
A lot of twists and turns that I wasn't expecting.
This book is another great story from one of my favorite authors! There is the element of danger, plenty of humor with fun dialogue and as always the characters are crafted so the reader feels like they are friends that you’d love to hang out with. It was a very slow burn (Kade held out for sooo long!) so if you like that in a story this one is for you!
Her Delta Force Protector,
is a thrilling, moving, funny,
sexy & suspenseful romance.
It keeps you on the edge of
your seat wanting to know
what happens next.
I truly enjoyed every page,
& every twist & turn in the story.
I loved Kade & Harper's chemistry.
So many great characters & dogs.
RECOMMEND!!
Harper was Kade’s best friend and when he hears she’s dead he can’t believe she’s gone for good. Kade has abandonment issues and Harper dying was the ultimate of being left behind. Low and behold she’s not really dead and reaches out to her BF Kade to help her when she’s in danger.
This book is another gem from a favorite author. There is the element of danger, plenty of humor with fun dialogue and as always the characters are crafted so the reader feels like they are friends that you’d love to hang out with.
This book is the second in a series but can be read as a stand alone but the reader should really read the first in the series as well just because its so good.. luckily there is one brother left so we have another book to look forward to
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Harper is Leary about her roommate and her roommates boyfriend. She is suspicious the boyfriend may be trouble. Harper couldn’t leave it alone and followed Lisa one night to see where she is going. She unravels a major illegal operation. She fakes her death in order to get away but the bad men find her.
Kade thinks his best friend is dead so when he gets a call from her he is stunned. As he starts helping her and realizing the danger she is in he realizes he feels more for her than just a friend.
As the two are on the run and investigating they can no longer fight their feelings but when things are over can their love remain or will they give up?
Very enjoyable, with a cast of lovable, relatable characters, and a hero with a penchant for joking but wounded in so many ways, “Her Delta Force Protector”, by Sandra Owens (Carina Press), explores the “friends-to-lovers” trope, in a deadly adventure where even the villains have a personality.
I liked the transition from friendship to love and how we’re shown how both Kade and Harper experience it differently. It’s great seeing them enjoying themselves just by being and laughing together.
Kade is a wonderful hero – really protective, stoic, alpha in a sort of easygoing way, but turning lethal when needed.
I loved having Kade’s point of view, realize the extent his self-image is conditioned for his troubled childhood.
The idea that he would make a bad husband and his general reluctance to commitment and love stem from the childhood abandonment events and the feelings of rejection, which he masks with a mask of joviality.
He’s a paradox in some ways, because he’s so good with his family and friends, including Harper, yet he’s extremely wary of a deep, meaningful intimacy.
It was fun to watch him beginning to see Harper in a new light, becoming more and more attracted, and trying to fight or downplay it.
I really enjoyed the balance between Kade’s serious issues and the humor, teasing and light banter.
I liked the Blue Ridge Mountains setting, the secondary characters and Duke’s personality as a smarter dog than anyone would guess.
As usual with in Sandra Owens, the characters, interactions and dialogue are entertaining. The affection, fondness, love between these vibrant, full of life people, is really great to watch, with the added pleasure of introducing one of the goofiest dogs ever.
I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. This is the second in the series of K-9 Defenders. Kade receives a call from Harper who he thought was dead but she is very much alive and terrified that someone is going to kill her. Kade is a Delta Force operator and he has the skills to keep Harper alive. Harper and Kade are best of friends but they are both fighting their feelings for each other plus Kade is trying to keep Harper alive because of what she saw. Harper was trying to help her roommate when she followed her and saw that they were forcing her to make porn movies and then when she went back to find more evidence, she saw that they killed another of their female leads. When they tried to kill her at her dad’s house, she knew that she needed to call Kade for help. This is when the adventure and romance begins between Kade and Harper. Enjoyable romance novel with plenty of action to keep you reading and wanting to read the next in the series.
Action, kidnapping, corruption, and a team of heroes that can save any day and not break a sweat. Second in series, but can stand on it's own. Solid storyline and characters you want to know. And yes, romance along the way.
I was looking forward to Kade and he delivered!
Positive thoughts:
- I loved the chemistry between Kade and Harper, and although Kade realy tried to fight it, he couldn't keep away from Harper. (and we get his hot and cold ways that only confuse and irritate Harper, but we know what's really going on in his head).
- We get some more of the lovely little Everly, she is just so adorable. I can't wait for the 3rd book with her and her fireman dad!
- I loved Duke, that goofy K9 that brought a lot of laughter (something I love to see in a suspense book, it tones it down when we need it).
Negative thoughts:
- I wish I got a bit more of Kade's Delta Force special skills, felt that part was a bit bland when the action bits came.
Overall:
- This is a suspense romance, with an awesome K9. Fast and easy read that kept me turning those pages, never wanting to leave.
- Sandra keeps you hooked with the suspense and the romance. And boy oh boy the chemistry was fabulous.
- I would say this book could be read as a stand-a-lone, but seriously you'll not want to miss the 1st book.
- Sandra kept the violence light and TW for rape were there but subtle.

Wow!!! This book is fantastic! It kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible to see what happened next. I loved Kade and Harper's story and was totally invested in wanting them to get a HEA ending.
Before that's a possibility, Harper has to deal with the bad guys trying to kill her. When she turns to Kade for help, lots of craziness and mayhem happens.
The star of the book, to me, is Duke. That dog comes alive on the pages and kept making me laugh.
Fans of the genre will love this book. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it's so good that you owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors ' list.
Her Delta Force Protector, the second in a series, is a good read that I put away in a few hours. It follows the middle Church brother, Kane, who is finally leaving special forces to live with his brothers in their childhood home. The heroine, Harper, is supposedly his best friend, and your story begins when he gets a call from her asking for help. Since she supposedly died a few months earlier, it's a bit of a shock.
But is it? For a guy who supposedly buried his best friend, Kane is pretty blasé about seeing her again. If I thought my BFF has died and then miraculously was given a second chance, I would've grabbed her up in a bear hug, alternating between wanting to shake her for scaring me and sobbing thanks to the sweet baby Jesus. Instead of it was just a little too pragmatic, almost as if the author needed to cut that part to make room for the suspense.
Anyway, once Harper and Kade are back in his small town, we get to see the characters we met in book 1 of the series, which is great. Thankfully, the author spares us most of the shenanigans that the colorful townfolk got into in the first book (it fit there given that the protagonists were the local police chief and the sheriff, but it would have been extra here). The time is instead spent building a plan to catch the bad guys who are after Harper and in Harper and Kade deciding to give friends-with-benefits a go.
If you know me at all, you know I just love love love the friends-to-lovers trope, and you know that the ones that reach five-star status are the ones where the moment the couple goes from platonic to physical is filled with wonder and a sense of homecoming. I don't entirely feel that Harper and Kade fully got there for me. In fact, the "best friends" demarcation is a little unbelievable here. Friends, yes, but besties? They've known each other just a year, and there's this expectation that once Harper is safe again, they'll go their separate ways. Physical relationship or not, that's just not BFF behavior.
All that said, I really like Kade and Harper as a couple. They do have chemistry, and I loved their ability to trust each other as well as to tease and banter. I just with the best friend part had played out a little more convincingly.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
It is really impossible not to enjoy this wonderfully thrilling and captivating book. Find a cozy spot, prepare your snacks and get sucked into this suspenseful story. I am suffering from the lack of sleep because I just had to read it at once.
