So juicy, addictive and I love kids behaving badly. Prep school, gossip, girl, and cruel intention vibes. Such a great start to a series.
"Misfit" by Elle Kennedy didn't quite hit the mark for me, despite being a fan of her work. While the writing was solid, I needed help to connect with the storyline. The concept of rich kids being sent to a school due to bad behaviour felt forced, and the multiple points of view became overwhelming. I appreciated the introduction of other characters but felt that their constant POV throughout the book needed to be revised. Despite these drawbacks, I'll give the next book a chance, hoping for a more engaging read.
Misfit by Elle Kennedy is the first book of the Prep series and it’s been a rollercoaster! RJ lands at Sandover Prep thanks to his mom's new marriage, and between dodging rich kid drama and breaking rules, he falls for Sloane, the headmaster's daughter.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I recommend Misfit because it’s a wild ride through secrets, love and prep school life! It’s perfect if you love drama and twists and a bit of a mystery. I can’t wait to pick up the second book cause I was left on a cliffhanger. I loved the book but I wish the POV’s were only between RJ and Sloane because it was a bit hard at first to keep up with each character’s perspective.
Read this if you like:
- A MFC standing up for herself
- Funny banter
- Reminds me of Gossip Girl
- Lots and lots of drama🤭
I hope you pick up Misfit for your next read!
Multiple points of view. Over the top boarding school setting. Teen drama. This was a deliciously fun read.
I love a good prep school story. While this wasn’t wildly impressive and did feel a bit long, it’s exactly the kind of book I needed right now. And it was good enough I’ll check out the sequel.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Elle Kennedy writes superb storylines with characters that are realistic and easy to connect with. Misfit is story that grabs your attention and holds it to the very end.

3.75 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the E-Book. Yes Im late to the party but Im here and loving it. This was such a fast paced YA book that had a little bit of everything. I enjoyed the different POV of all the characters even though it did focus more on RJ and Sloan. I loved all the side stuff that was going on and cant wait to read book 2
Thank you #Netgalley
Another great Elle Kennedy read. This series follows RJ, an eighteen year old, whose mother just married a man with an 18yr old son, Fenn. Their father sends them both to a all boys boarding school where Fenn has been attending. RJ is not looking forward to this experience or even getting to know his brother. When he arrives at school he quickly learns of the unspoken hierarchy of the students, who to talk to and who not to. When he comes across a cute girl while exploring the property, he had no idea what he was getting himself into. She is the daughter of the head master and ex girlfriend of a school bully. We watch as RJ navigates this new world, as well as perspectives of other students and Sloane.
Elle Kennedy can do no wrong in my eyes. She has a way of writing character you can help but follow allow with to see how it’s going to end. This book follow a little bit of forbidden love, and have multiple POVs which I always appreciate.
The cover is pretty basic compared to Elle’s other books but I think her name alone will get people to pick this up. It’s an easy to follow book for teens but I might rate it more as an NA book than YA. All around good story and would continue on in the series.
I have tried for months to read this book. Unfortunately, I never want to pick it up. I may be to old for rich, bratty kids at an elite prep school. I think there are too many POVs. Also, Lawson's character is so poorly written. He is oversexed, and it comes off as a sad LGBTQIA+ stereotype.
At this point, I have decided to DNF.
I expected this to be just one sex scene after another but I was actually hooked on the storyline!
I liked the characters and the author handed me a cliffhanger that's got me waiting for the next book!
This book has it all: two guys who don't know each other at all become stepbrothers and wind up attending the same boarding school. RJ meets Sloane and is immediately attracted to her. But she's the headmaster's daughter and off limits to all the students at this all boys school.
There is a little bit of a myster in the book: what happened to Casey, Sloane's sister? She's quite obviously going to be the heroine of a future book and I must say I'm looking forward to it.
There were a couple of gratuitous sex scenes and relationships that IMHO didn't need to be there but perhaps we're being prepped for another book. I enjoyed Misfit and will definitely read more of the series,
Thanks to Sourcebooks for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
A good introduction to a new series but with a lot of POVs which makes a little bit confusing at first.
However, Elle Kennedy knows how to write and the writing is so easy to read.
I really need book 2 because the end of this one? Oh my God. If you are looking for some college mystery with angst and a little bit of spicy, this book is for you.
Nothing wrong with it, I just didn’t enjoy Misfit as much as I did Elle Kennedy's BriarU and Off-Campus series, which are some of my current favourites!
This one was a little too young for me (I think I’m realizing now that college age is my cut-off) but I thought I’d give it a shot since it’s Elle Kennedy and I’ve enjoyed her more mature books. Thank you to Bloom and NetGalley for the ARC!
Is this the next literary hallmark of our culture? No.
Was this fun? Hell yes. This was a fun read, and it didn't need to be more.
It was okay. Didn’t love it and the plot didn’t really interest me but it wasn’t a bad book. I think that the audience is younger than me. Like 16-20 would relate more to it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-Arc copy of this novel. A wonderful romance, lots of fun.
I picked this one up after seeing parallels with Gossip Girl which honestly I didn’t really get! This new series from Elle Kennedy follows a private high school of rich kids and I struggled a bit with it. Unlike most of her previous books, this has a full cast of POV’s which made it a little difficult to follow and harder to get invested in the storylines.
I found Sloane and RJ’s storyline to be enjoyable and cute, but the other characters I thought were at times unnecessary and muddled what was going on.
I will probably give the next book a chance because there is a bit of a mystery element that is to be continued but this series definitely doesn’t have the charm of Elle Kennedy’s other works for me!
I loved every minute of Misfit! Shout out to Elle Kennedy for creating the perfect Gossip-Girl-meets-Pretty-Little-Liars vibes. I was skeptical of the number PJs POVs at first, but each character was so week written and unique, that I had no problem distinguishing between characters. Now if only I could pick a favorite!
Sandover Prep… an all boys boarding school for rich delinquents. RJ Shaw is the new guy in school and really doesn’t want to be there but when his mom decides to marry a rich guy, he doesn’t have a choice. I thought he was pretty funny in this book and the banter between him and Sloane Tresscott, the headmasters daughter, was hilarious! 👌🏻
We get multiple POV’s in this book so this story doesn’t just focus on RJ and Sloane, tho their relationship is one of the main topics of this book. I’m definitely interested to read book 2 with the cliffy/mystery we were left with and so ready to see the other characters relationships.😆😍
