This was an enjoyable book. I’ll definitely read Rogue. Jumping around the different points of view really threw me off. I enjoyed the development of RJs character and even Sloane but all the other character POVs was tough for me.
If you enjoyed books like Gossip Girl, It Girl and Private years ago then this is definitely the book for you.
I liked the fact you got to see multiple characters point of views and man that cliffhanger! It took a little bit to get into the story but eventually I was hooked and finished the last 150 pages in a day.
I can’t wait to start reading Rouge next.
In this story we meet RJ, whose mother recently married Fenn's father. RJ has been to his fair share of public schools, but now he's in this new all boys boarding school for, well, misfits. Misfits, delinquents, all of them have one thing in common. They're rich. All but RJ.
RJ meets Sloane and he's enthralled by her. The thing is... she's off limits. She's the headmaster's daughter. This book has a lot of drama, and a lot of POV's/characters to follow. Not only do we get RJ, Sloane, and Fenn's perspective, we get their other two friends- Silas and Lawson.
Although I liked all the characters and it was an easy read, I was still a bit confused the multiple POV's. You really have to pay attention to see whose part of the story you're on. The ending was a bit jaw dropping and I wouldn't call it a huge cliffhanger, but it leaves you wanting so much more!

This was my first Elle Kennedy book but definitely not the last!
I liked this story. Some moments really made me laugh so hard and I enjoyed reading it.
Thank you to the publisher, Elle Kennedy and Netgalley for providing me with this copy.
This book is everything we wish our high school experience was like. Full of angst, drama, mystery, and illicit activities, Misfit has everything that will keep you turning the pages. It has fully fleshed relationships, both familial and romantic, as well as the typical antagonistic bullies. At times it is tragic and emotional, and I felt so deeply for everything that the characters have gone through. You’ll fall in love with every single one of these characters, and there is a full cast. I loved getting all the different points of view. It really allowed me to get to know everyone on a deeper level and it made me feel like I was a part of the group. The banter between RJ and Sloane is to die for. And, what can I say, I’m just a sucker for the broody loner type. I’m hooked into the mystery of Casey’s accident and the cliffhanger has me immediately going to get the next book in this series! This is a must-read and I can totally stand behind the hype for this one.
I fell in love with Elle Kennedys writing style during her Off-Campus book series, so I was naturally excited when I discovered she wrote a new series but I'm being honest and I didn't really liked this book. It was an okay read but I was a bit confused with all the character switching, but I will give book 2 a second chance and will still read it. I'm giving this book 3,25 stars because it was still very well written, I think it wasn't just my cup of tea.
I’ve read other books by Elle Kennedy that I absolutely adored but this one missed the mark for me. I was expected something a little different with the reference to Gossip Girl. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved this book! It's got an ongoing mystery, points of views from all of the key players, and all the drama and intrigue I've come to expect from a high school boarding school.
This book is mostly RJ and Sloane's story. RJ just came into a brand new family and brand new wealth. He was expelled from his last school because of his hacker tendencies, and is now at Sandover Prep, a boarding school for boys who've been cast out of other schools. Sloane's father is the headmaster of Sandover Prep, and her sister, Casey, was involved in an accident last year where she was drugged and her car found in a lake, but she can't remember anything about the accident.
This is such an interesting bunch of characters, and hearing from everyone's point of view is outstanding. Each of them seem to have their own secrets, and leaves you wondering if they had any part in the big mystery surrounding Casey's accident. The mystery isn't solved at the end of this book, which makes me think that we will learn a little more with each book, which I am completely here for.
I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of the series, and can't wait to find out what we will learn along the way!
Thank you to Bloom Books for providing me with a copy of this book.
When cyber-hacker, RJ, gets shipped off to boarding school to join his new stepbrother, he quickly falls for the headmaster’s very off limits daughter, Sloane. The story follows RJ, Sloane, and other students as they navigate the toxic social dynamics of an elite prep school.
TW: Mentions of drugging, mentions of underage sex, drinking, teacher/student relationship, mentions of parental deaths, mentions of parental abandonment
I might be showing my age here but did you ever sit down to binge watch Gossip Girl and just think to yourself...there is no way these "kids" are in high school? That's exactly how I felt reading Misfit. Most of these people are supposed to be seniors in high school but they have the worldly experience of people in their mid twenties. Don't get me wrong I was obsessed with Gossip Girl and I do love the angsty drama in this book but I just felt they were written at the wrong age.
Be that as it may, I found I did love a lot of things about this book. Sloane and RJ were cute, I loved how tough she presented...not giving an inch at first but then turning into a big puddle of goo once she let her guard down with him. And RJ...not the typical alpha male hero. He's the loner hacker who doesn't get attached to anyone. I did like the multple POVs, Kennedy gives a little bit of each character...just enough to make you want more. I'm interested in Casey (the only one I felt acted her appropriate age) and Fenn..there's something fishy there with the whole accident. And I am defintely concerned for Lawson, but boy does he make me laugh, he's definitely a self distructive cinnamonroll character. Silas can take a long jump off a short pier...what a douche bag.
If you love drama I don't think you'll put this down, it's very entertaining in that regard. You may be thinking, Mandy...if you liked it so much why did you give it only three stars? Look, three stars is good! It means I liked it but there were some things I didn't vibe with and that's okay...other people might! I just felt kind of ick reading this about 18 year olds...that's still a kid to me haha. So I'm probably not the target audience being the age that I am (I will no be devulging this information lol) Also the repeated misogony from the boys was overkill and starting to annoy me.
Overall a decent drama filled book and I will most likely read the second to see what happens with Casey and Fenn. Thank you so much to Bloom Books for providing me with an eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked it but I also don’t think it was that good?? I’ll try to elaborate.
At first, the book was good. I liked the “bad boy who likes to get in trouble” matched with “rebel girl” vibe. Kind of forbidden romance.
But then half way through the book i thought it was really predictable. It became a very typical highschool romance and “I won’t love anyone but then I started loving her” type of book.
And I’m going to be honest: I thought the book was somewhat cringe.
But the book was still tolerable. It was just too much like a Wattpad book. I would also like to add I didn’t really like any character per se. They were pretty unlikable.
The main characters are RJ and Soloane but half way through I kind of stopped rooting for them because it was obvious that they will end up together. And just to break them up a very silly twist was added that kind of didn’t make sense. But of course, they get back together.
But then there were these two other characters: Fenn and Casey— I thought they were interesting throughout the book and when I read the epilogue it spiked my intrigue.
So yeah, Elle knows how to sell the next book because yep, you guessed it, Rogue, her next book releasing this March is about Fenn and Casey.
But I really like Elle’s writing style so I know I will give her other books a shot. I’ve already read a couple like The Deal etc. and ended up liking them.
But if you give this one a try, you might like it !
happy reading x
I’ll be honest, I went in to this book with slight hesitation. Characters are at minimum in college if not adult for me normally so bringing it further down to high school I wasn’t sure if I’d be uncomfortable. Quite the opposite. It brought me back to my high school years and the characters are all so wonderfully relatable.
Being from New England myself, the location, the weather, the activities, it’s all so familiar and easy for me to fall into the story. Rj has such a smart ass dry humor personality, one I know I’d fall for too if I was in the book especially if I’d been dropped from public school to private prep school. Kennedy writes the characters so well that even the changing POV is seamless. You have the Mc, the sidekick, the screw boy, and the serious kid, it’s such a well rounded group. Fenn steps up and takes on the brotherly role he was tossed into, setting RJ up at Sandover with his friends. Just like from the off campus series, I’m hoping Lawson gets his own book of his swirling havoc he wreaks. Silas is the quiet serious one… Not only does the book have a cute romance, but also has a mystery that everyone seems to have a part in and we’re slowly unraveling what actually happened the night of The Accident.
I’m jumping right in to the next in the series Rogue. I can’t wait to see where Kennedy takes us next!
When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. For me it started off kind of slow, and the whole rich kids thing kind of turned me off from it, but I still wanted to give it a chance because I have heard good things about it. About 30% into the book, I couldn’t stop reading it! The characters started to attract me, the plot started to capture my attention, and I wanted to know more! The characters were a bunch of jerks at first, but then the author started to shine the light on who they were deep down and I really loved the character growth! The ending was amazing and in a way such a cliff hanger. I’m excited to read the next!
Elle Kennedy never disappoints me. I did struggle to get into this story at first, but once I was hooked I couldn’t stop reading. There were multiple POV throughout the book, not just the two “main” characters, RJ and Sloane. There was also Fenn (RJ’s step brother), Silas and Lawson.
RJ gets sent to a new prep school with his stepbrother. RJ has been through five different highschools, and figures it will only be a matter of time before he is out of this one. He has never felt like he belonged anywhere and knows he won’t start now. He is surprised when over time he starts to feel like he has real friends for the first time in his life, and not only real friends… a real love interest.
Sloane is NOT interested in dating. After surviving a traumatic and mysterious accident, Sloanes sister Casey has been Sloanes main focus. Until she meets RJ. RJ seems to have broken through her “absolutely no boys” rule and has Sloane crushing hard. But with all the secrets being kept, who can really be trusted?
This book ended on a cliffhanger, which just makes me thankful I did not read it until I had the next book, Rouge, waiting for me in my library. This didn’t just feel like a romance, but also like a mystery, especially towards the end. RJ’s personality was one of my favorites by Elle Kennedy. He was witty and had me laugh out loud. His banter back and forth with Sloane was also amazing. I really enjoyed Fenn’s story line too, and was rooting for him.
Being a teacher, one thing I can never get past is teacher-student relationships. I know it is just fiction and a good story, but It is always a hard no for me. That and the slower start is the only thing that has me giving this book four stars.
I have already jumped into Rouge and can’t wait to see what happens next!!!
Review will be posted on Instagram and Goodreads 3/2
This one was a lot of fun! I love anything set in an academia/prep school type of setting. The characters were engaging, the storylines were exciting and the spice was perfectly sprinkled in. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
RJ Shaw's life has just been turned upside down, his mother married a new man and that meant relocation was in order, Now their living in the wealthy man's home, he has step-siblings, and he's attending some rich kid prep school. Non of which is he happy about, it's his senior year and the last thing he wants to be doing is starting over. He knows he isn't the type of kid you usually see wandering the halls of Sandover Prep, he's hoping his time there will be short lived.
Then he meets her, the beautiful girl with smart mouth, and suddenly spending time within the walls of Sandover Prep don't seem quite so bad. But this girl comes with complications he can't afford...
Misfit is an addictive little page-turner that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning, I just couldn't bring myself to put it down! Between the pages of this one we meet Sandover Prep's newest student RJ and the beautiful temptation he can't stay away from. He knows messing with the headmaster's daughter will only bring trouble, but he also can't get over how much he likes her and her smart mouth. She gives as good as she gets and she keeps him on his toes, she's a keeper.
I loved watching these two dance around one another and taunt each other at every turn, they were quite the entertaining pair. Their forbidden little love story was funny, emotional, steamy and wickedly entertaining! I can't wait for the next one!! Highly recommend!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
This book takes you on a journey of healing between all the characters as they each struggle to overcome their past and their family lives. Some characters you see truly start to overcome their issues, while others dig further into their bad habits to avoid it. I loved the camaraderie between the boys and the honesty of the characters. The tragedies were most definitely not sugar coated. Then suddenly, after going thru everything with these characters, BAM, we’re left with a massive cliffhanger that I am definitely looking forward to resolving in the next book!
RJ and Fenn meet at their parents wedding for the first time, and are then send to a “troubled” boys boarding school. As Fenn shows RJ the ropes, RJ meets the one girl that is absolutely off limits. The headmasters daughter. As RJ and Sloane struggle to find their place together, the boys work to help RJ in the biggest fight of his life. Literally.
This book does have multiple POV and switches between 5 characters, so it can be hard to follow and a bit confusing.
This book does have a lot of triggers so be sure to check the authors site prior to reading. I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved the start of this one. The humor and characters were great in the first half of the story. As I read to the middle of the story it really started to lose me. The start of the story was so much better.
While I much prefer Kennedy's other works, this was still a fun read! Spicy, engaging and an east-to-follow plot make this a good after-work read when you're ready to just escape from the world around you. While the MC's are not super likable, they are engaging and their personalities shone off the page like floodlights, and they left me still wanting more when I turned the last page (figuratively speaking because I read this on my Kindle app ha!)
I recently have enjoyed the Avalon Bay Series by Elle Kennedy, so I was super excited to see this book on NetGalley. I wanted to explore more from this author and dive more into the YA/NA Romance genre. Unfortunately, this book didn’t do it for me. This book reminds me a lot of Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars, and it was hard for me to get into it. I work at a private school, and this book reminded me way too much of my students. The biggest difference for me with this series was the multiple POVs; there were at least 6 different ones. I’m not sure why, but this kept kicking me out of the story. I’m sure this would fit the need of someone else, but I DNF at 42%.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
