First of all, thanks to Sourcefirebooks and netgalley for my ARC copy!
The Broken Hearts Club is a story of Imogen Finch, she’s the dayghter of a matchmaker and she wants to experience how to fall in love so she faked a relationship! But a year into that relationship, things changed. Like they always do and real love will now show itself to her.
This is my first book from the author and I must say, I am beyond satisfied and loved every bit of it! Yes there were times where in maybe they might’ve solved conflicts in another way but I am happy. I like the fact also that Imogen can “see” what love looks like in a sense of seeing rose gold, copper and teal depending on the love and heartbreak that people experience. Isn’t that fun? From fake dating, seeing love, and ohhh the artistic theme. If you love stories like these you would really want to read this.
Such a romance book and loving this book!! I was not very disappointed. This book is fully loaded with romance, family drama, comedy and YA
While reading through the book, all the characters were great. But this main character I instantly fell in love with and very relatable. All the challenges she endured and learned so much through to the end on finding love, taking risks, and getting heartbroken. She definitely know what her heart want. THE HEART WANTS WHAT IT WANTS!!! I was rooting for her. I definitely love this book. It wasn't boring. It was very entertaining!
Five stars and definitely recommend to read this book!
Thank you to Susan Bishop Crispell, Netgalley, and Sourcebooks Fire for the eARC! All opinions are my own.
This was a great YA romance novel! It was a cute, funny, quick read for me. I loved Imogen and Augusts relationship— it was a unique story for sure, with Mo having faked a relationship with August only for him to have shown up and decided he liked her and wanted to be in a real relationship with her. I loved that August & Mo were so sweet and fun with one another, for a YA novel it doesn’t shy away from sex but doesn’t focus on it to keep it cleanish but realistic. I also loved Owen and Gemma and all the fun they added to the story. I felt for Mo as she realizes love doesn’t have a strict blueprint, it’s not a linear progress, and broken hearts are part of love and life. Open and honest communication, forgiveness, and grace are hallmark to love. I loved seeing Mo & August realize this this and find love with one another.
Thank you for the ARC!!!
If you're looking for a heartwarming romance with a touch of magic, then "The Broken Hearts Club" by Crispell is the book for you. The story follows Imogen Finch, the daughter of a magical matchmaker, who has never been in love. She's content with her single life, but when she reconnects with the boy she's pretended to be in a relationship with for over a year, things start to change.
Tan's writing is both charming and engaging, as she weaves together a story of love, family, and self-discovery. Imogen is a relatable and endearing protagonist, whose journey of self-discovery is both heartwarming and relatable. Her struggles with finding her place in the world and her own identity are portrayed with sensitivity and humor.
What's particularly captivating about the book is the way that Crispell incorporates magical elements into the story without them feeling contrived or forced. The matchmaker's abilities are portrayed with a sense of wonder and whimsy, adding an extra layer of enchantment to the already charming story.
The romance in the book is both sweet and steamy, with a love triangle that will keep readers guessing until the very end. The chemistry between Imogen and both August and Ren is palpable, and their interactions are both funny and heartfelt.
Overall, the book is a delightful read that will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Crispell has created a charming world full of relatable characters and magical elements that will capture your heart. If you're looking for a romance with a touch of magic, then this book is not to be missed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Sourcebook Fires through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you so much!
Loved this adorable, heartwarming quick read! This YA novel gives summer-at-the-beach vibes and is a lot of fun. Highly recommended!
This book was the epitome of cute! I absolutely loved Imogen and related to her in so many ways, which made me connect with her so easily. Her character development was done so well and I loved the way that we got to see her views on love change over the course of the book. I loved August’s character so much, he was literally so charming and adorable. I thought all of the characters were unique— which is something I love to see in books.
My only real complaint is that I felt like the relationship development felt just a tiny bit rushed, but Mo and August’s relationship is so cute, so I’m not complaining too much!
I loved this book! The story is about a girl who is a daughter of a matchmaker and is convinced that she'll never find love. She is in a fake relationship with a boy who finds out and wants to be in her life for real romantically and another boy that she is crushing on which obviously created a very interesting story. Also, there's some magic!
The characters were so magnificently written and realistic. I loved seeing their character development. Imogen Finch is quite possibly one of the greatest names ever. This is a great coming of age YA novel with some magic thrown in. I think it was super cool that she could see other people's auras of their feelings. I do wish that that would have been explored more. The writing of the book was so beautiful as well. It was definitely delicately woven!
When the perpetually single daughter of a magical matchmaker reconnects with the boy she’s pretended to be in a relationship with for over a year, she may finally have met her match.
Imogen Finch has never been in love... despite being the daughter of a matchmaker. Her only relationship to date was a fake one with a near stranger named August Tate that she made up to stop people from asking about her love life. To fill the void, she’s channeled her obsession with love into her passion for photography, using her ability to literally see the rose-gold glow of a person in love to capture stunning portraits.
But when her adviser says her photography portfolio is “one note”, she’s desperate to diversify. After hearing her forever crush, Ren, was recently dumped, she decides to photograph the broken-hearted, starting with him. Imogen is hopeful she’ll finally find love and get the right photos. So, the last thing she expects is for the real-life version of her fake boyfriend to show up in town asking why they “broke up”. Before she knows it she’s juggling August and Ren and falling for the first time in her life.
I loved this story from start to finish. I felt a connection with the characters, and the plot was well developed. Will recommend this story to others.
This was a sweet story. I was rooting for Mo to get her happy ending. It was a fun read but a little unrealistic. It was a quick read that I would recommend to anyone who likes fun, light books.
I'm not a huge fan of love triangles, I tend to lean one way or another and can get frustrated with the characters. I didn't really feel like way with this one.
It was a really cute story about what can happen when the made up boyfriend shows up and you don't know what to do.
I didn't know what was going to happen.
Super cute summer read!
I think the teens at my library will like this one.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
I really loved this story. I could not pick up another book for a day because I kept thinking about this book. Imogen is so relatable and so likeable. This book is amazing. I absolutely loved it.
I just reviewed The Broken Hearts Club by Susan Bishop Crispell. #NetGalley

This was a cute summer read that I couldn’t put down! Highly reccomend if you love love triangles! I loved the characters so much. I finished in one sitting!
I love a good fake dating story. Throw in a matchmaker and it is a hit for me. I am easy to please with lighthearted romance books. This one was unique and had some fun twists.
To be completely honest, I took one look at the book cover/synopsis and expected a cheesy, predictable romance. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese (my favorite is gouda,) but The Broken Hearts Club was anything but predictable. Susan Bishop Crispell puts a fun spin on the fake dating trope with her reverse catfish, fake ex's story. The Broken Hearts Club is the perfect summer read: fun, cute and addictively readable.
Full review to come.
Growing up with a matchmaker for a mom, especially one who came up with a long list of Love Rules—which are basically just a series of dos and don’ts—Imogen think she knows all there is to know about love. Plus, given that she can see people’s love auras, she believes she knows exactly what love looks and feels like—even though she’s never been in it.
Until the boyfriend she made up comes to town and the boy she’s been crushing on her whole life breaks up with his long-term girlfriend and everything she thought she knew about love is called into question.
If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be messy—and not just because it’s about love, which is the messiest thing there is. The characters, Imogen especially, have very little depth to them outside of maybe one defining feature. For August, that’s his poetry. For Ren, it’s his surfing. And for Imogen, it’s the fact that she can’t make up her mind between both guys, leading to a very repetitive plot. She hangs out with Ren but can’t stop thinking about August, and she hangs out with August but can’t stop thinking about Ren. And really, neither relationship made sense because Imogen barely spends any time with either of them.
To put it simply, if you’re into love triangles, then this is the book for you, and if you’re not, then it probably will fall quite flat.
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire and Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
4.25/5 stars! This was a sweet YA romcom with a unique and special premise. Imogen can see the auras of those in love. When an art project requires her to find a new muse, Imogen pivots and finds herself caught between her art, her long-term crush, and her fake ex-boyfriend. I loved the story, but I wish the magic was at the forefront. It's mentioned as a minor plot point but I would have enjoyed having it featured further.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Such a great coming of age story that shows love no matter your age is messy and intense. It doesn't follow rules and you just have to follow you heart and make the decision that works for you. The characters change and grow with the story and that makes the storyline flow and keep the reader interested. I finished this book in one day, I was hooked
Review: This feels like a YA summer read (This is a compliment!), even though it doesn't take place in summer. A fun romance, that also touches on more serious topics, I would definitely recommend trying it!
I received an e-ARC from the publisher.
I received this book as an eARC from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire.
The Broken Hearts Club follows Imogen (Mo), the daughter of a matchmaker, who spent the last year faking her relationship with August. Hijinks ensue when August who shows up again after she fake dates and then dumps him wondering why. Can she keep it together while he is in town and finish and submit her portfolio to a summer arts program or will heartbreak get the best of her?
This was a quick, fun read. I enjoyed Mo’s descriptions of how she sees love and heartbreak surrounding people in waves of colors. That was something poetic about the descriptions. I loved all the talk about the cafe and baked goods, especially the Frankenbiscuits. I would recommend this book to friends who need a nice fluffy book.
Imogene creates a fake boyfriend online, never expecting that he would show up in real life. cute story, and a happily ever after.
