This book was good! Drew’s character felt real and well-developed. The story was compelling, especially once Drew’s mom went missing. I was eager to know what happened next and the fast pacing definitely allowed that.

Just Do This One Thing for Me - Laura Zimmermann
Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

“Hilarious, heartbreaking, and sneaky suspenseful, Just Do This One Thing for Me is a timely novel about a rule-following daughter trying to hold her family together after her scammer mother disappears.

“Just do this one thing for me.” Drew's mother says it more often than good morning. Heidi Hill has been juggling shady side hustles for all of Drew’s seventeen years, and Drew knows that “one thing” really means all the necessary things her mother thinks are boring, including taking care of her fifteen-year-old sister and eight-year-old brother. In fact, Drew is the closest thing to a responsible adult they’ve ever known. When their mother disappears on the way to a New Year’s Eve concert in Mexico and her schemes start unraveling, Drew is faced with a choice: Follow the rules, do the responsible thing, and walk away--alone--from her mother's mess. Or hope the weather stays cold, keep the cons going, and just maybe hold her family together.”

I absolutely loved, loved this one! I loved the story of trying your best to keep it all together as your world falls apart and also loved the stories of how desperate people can truly do desperate things. I was definitely similar to Drew growing up in so many ways so especially loved her personality. I loved the dry humor and sass that Carna brought to the story. The reviews sprinkled through were so amusing, too.

I loved this book. I loved that it was about motherly "love" and childhood "responsibility " the fact that it touched on trauma and it was suspenseful. It was dark and light and full of questions and gave a real world perspective on the subject of how far will you go for your loved ones worth the added but what is really love

The novel "Just Do This One Thing For Me" by Andrea Askowitz is a gripping and emotional story that follows the life of Drew, a 17-year-old girl who has been forced to grow up too quickly due to her mother's constant shady hustles. The author does an excellent job of portraying the difficult choices that Drew has to make as she struggles to take care of her younger sister and brother while dealing with the aftermath of her mother's disappearance.

The plot of the story is well-developed and keeps the reader engaged throughout the novel. The characters are complex and realistic, and the author does a great job of showing the dynamics of a family that has been through a lot of hardship. Drew's struggles with her responsibility to her family and her desire to break free from her mother's schemes are portrayed in a way that is both heartbreaking and relatable.

The writing style is simple and straightforward, but it effectively conveys the emotions and thoughts of the characters. The story is told from Drew's perspective, which adds to the realism of the novel and makes the reader feel like they are experiencing the events alongside the protagonist.

Overall, "Just Do This One Thing For Me" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that explores the complexities of family dynamics and the choices that people make in difficult situations. It is a must-read for anyone who enjoys emotional and character-driven stories.

This was a fun, expected surprise! Drew was such a sympathetic character and I really felt for him. I thought this was a little bit suspenseful which added to the drama, and it was just so heartbreaking. I was so taken aback by the ending and when you found out where his mom went. I feel like this is one of those books where you're better off going in blind, so all I can really say is definitely add it to your list!

This book broke heart in more ways then one. As someone who comes from a broken family(not as bad as Drew’s) I felt for her. Especially the parts where she had to deal with a neglectful mother who had better things to do. I’m glad they had a happy ending. I also finished it in 2 days because I wanted to know what happened so badly. Overall, very well written and very well done.
