Honestly this book was too creepy for me. Dark and twisty, it’s a story well told but wasn’t for me. If you like serial killers, psychological thrillers and things dark and creepy you would probably enjoy this book. It bounces between two perspectives with enough vivid imagery and enough left unsaid to give you goosebumps and keep you turning pages but it also might keep you up at night.
I'm not sure what I expected from this book, but it was better than I could have hoped for. That sounds bad, but y'all know I don't read the synopsis. It ruins the book for me.
The beginning of the story is pretty normal. A father and daughter run an exterminating business together. The daughter goes the only appointment of the day alone as the father goes to visit the mother's grave. It starts off slow, but as the story goes on, it gets more twisted and more warped. Like a snowball going down a hill. It gets weirder and goes faster down the hill. I freakin' loved it!!
When you get to the notebooks part of the story, it puts all the pieces of the story together. Everything will make sense, but it is dark and twisted.
I read the book and listened to the audio. I enjoyed both, so whichever is your preference, you'll enjoy the story.
Thank you to @patriciadunnauthor, @crookedlanebooks & @netgalley for a gifted eARC of this book. It is out NOW.
I'd rate this thriller a solid four stars. It's definitely gripping and kept me turning the pages, but it didn't quite blow me away. The suspense was there, and the plot had some twists and turns, but it didn't leave as big of an impact on me as I had anticipated. Overall, it's a good read if you're into thrillers, but it didn't become a favorite for me.
This was pretty silly. It was hard to get through because none of the characters acted like real human people and the plot was so unbelievable. That said it was a pretty unique premise compared to other psychological thrillers I've read so I'll give it that.
4.25/5
Her Father's Daughter is T.M. Dunn's thrilling debut novel, and while I was a little confused by the format at first, I quickly figured it out and loved it! Sections of the book are separated by acts as in a play which is a male viewpoint, and the rest is told from our FMC Linda's viewpoint. It took me a minute to figure out who the male POV was, but eventually, I caught on and... chills! There are so many downright creepy and suspenseful moments, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. While some would call this fast-paced, I thought it was on the medium side of things, which felt perfect for the storyline.
David Bendena & Cara Swingline narrate the audiobook, and I would be lying if I said I didn't love them both equally. Bendena killed it as our male narrator, and I loved Swingline as the voice of Linda. I highly recommend the audiobook and be prepared to not want to put it down. Her Father's Daughter is gruesome and gross at times, but what do you expect when the MC is an exterminator? That was such an interesting facet of the book, and it will thoroughly freak you out once you know how that came to be. I loved the twists and turns, and the fascinating and unique take on the serial killer trope! This just came out in 2023, but I hope we will see more from this author very soon.
Her Father's Daughter is an original story about a father and daughter exterminating team who contract with exclusive apartment buildings and mom and pop diners in New York City. Twenty-five-year old Linda, whose mother died three days after Linda was born premature, was raised by her father, Anthony. As the novel unfolds it becomes a creepy, suspenseful story of a deranged man with a repulsive family history. The suspense will keep readers glued to the pages.
I really tried to get into the book however it was a struggle. I found the pacing to be slow and boring and I couldn't really find myself being interested in the characters.
HER FATHER'S DAUGHTER By T.M. Dunn
Twenty-five-year-old Linda Donovan has spent her life working for her father, Anthony, at Donovan and Daughter Exterminators in New York City. On the anniversary of her mother’s death, her father makes his annual visit to his late wife’s grave while Linda heads to a Park Avenue apartment building to work solo.
When she arrives, she finds the body of an elderly resident, partially eaten by rats. The gruesome death not only speaks poorly of the Donovans’ exterminating services—it also points to foul play. When the cops show up, they demand to speak to Linda’s father. But despite her efforts to contact him, Anthony has gone off the radar.
As he evades a possible murder charge, Linda’s father records in five notebooks—and five damning acts—the story of how he met and fell in love with her mother, a previously untold history of familial abuse, tormented souls, and true love gone terribly wrong.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I’ll be keeping my eyes open for this author again.
This was the first of their books but it was so good and not what I was expecting.
I wasn't able to read this book because I was busy but I will rate this 5 stars to compensate. The blurb looked very promising, though. I will read this when I get the chance and I will edit my review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Linda lives a somewhat lonely life tending to her dad, Anthony, and helping him run his extermination company. Anthony never moved past the death of his wife, visiting her grave every year and leaving Linda to tend to the work while he’s gone. Upon arriving to the apartment of an elderly resident, Linda finds the woman dead and evidence that she has been eaten by rats. A clear sign of foul play given how fresh the corpse is, detectives are called in…and Linda can no longer get a hold of her father.
Working to find clues as to why Anthony would go missing after such an act and desperate to clear his name, Linda starts combing through Anthony’s things for any information she can find. She discovers five notebooks which tell Anthony’s sordid tale and unlock family mysteries that Linda could have never imagined.
This was a twisty and twisted wild ride! It was slow and foreboding, the author dropping crumbs of info to keep us guessing and invested. I just couldn’t stop reading and feeling a sense of dread for when the gauntlet finally dropped.
I enjoyed that instead of a mother/daughter relationship, we got a father/daughter. Linda and Anthony are clearly close and there is love between them, but the relationship is also closed off to a point and you get a sense that even though they are ‘close’ there is also trepidation and almost a level of fear between the two. I think the author did a great job at building Linda’s personality. You truly get the sense that she is a loner through every thought and action.
It’s hard to believe that such a creatively wound thriller could be a debut, but it is in fact T.M. Dunn’s debut novel. Really makes you wonder what could possibly come next!
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review. Her Father's Daughter was an excellent read. I don't like to give spoilers in my reviews. Title kept me interested with each page turn. I found it also to be different from other mystery/thrillers. Definitely interested in other books from this author!
“Her Father’s Daughter” by T.M. Dunn is a raw and edgy domestic thriller that weaves together elements of suspense, police investigation, and a deeply troubled family history. The novel unfolds from the alternating perspectives of Linda Donovan, the protagonist, and her father, Anthony, providing a multifaceted exploration of their complicated relationship and the dark secrets that bind them. The story begins on the anniversary of her mother’s death, a day that holds significant emotional weight for Linda and her father. The gradual unfolding of these dark secrets keeps the reader intrigued and invested in the story. Dunn’s writing style is engaging and often laced with dark humor, which adds depth to the narrative. The pacing is well-executed, keeping the reader hooked from beginning to end. Despite the challenging subject matter, the story maintains its momentum throughout.

It explores complex family dynamics, psychological trauma, and societal commentary in a way that invites discussion and introspection. Readers looking for a typical crime or psychological thriller may find this novel to be a departure from the norm. In conclusion, T.M. Dunn’s “Her Father’s Daughter” is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged domestic thriller that delves deep into the complexities of family, trauma, and the dark secrets that bind us. With compelling characters and a unique narrative structure, it offers a gripping and intense reading experience that lingers in the mind long after the final page. This novel is sure to engage readers who appreciate a domestic thriller with a deeper, more introspective edge.
Really enjoyed this read, twisty and dark! Her Father's Daughter is disturbing. It’s really well written with 2 parallel stories running alongside each other. Parts of the book are super disturbing!
As she reads notebooks her father left for her, Linda discovers that she doesn't really know her father at all and is shocked at the person he really is. I could not put this book down! It started off strong and got even stronger the further I got into it. There were so many unexpected twists in this story - I loved it!

Her Father's Daughter: A Novel by T. M. Dunn is a twisted psychological thriller that takes the reader on a journey through the dark events that were hidden in a family's closet. Linda has been working with her father, Anthony, at their exterminator business in New York. Things are fine until they uncover the body of an elderly woman and her father is the prime suspect in her murder. Anthony goes on the run and records a family history for his daughter in several notebooks. What Linda discovers in those books not only describes their shared history but also highlights terrible events that took place in the past. Only by learning more about her past can Linda hope to understand more about her present and future. This book does a great job of grabbing you early and refusing to let go. The narrative moves very fast, and the characters are realistic and engaging. Fans of thrillers and mysteries will enjoy this read.
Best book of 2023? Absolutely. This is a thriller like no other. It is fun, exciting, thrilling, sometimes gruesome, but the storyline keeps you hooked and you can’t help but stay along for the ride because you need to find out what is going on. A must read for all thriller lovers, you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review
Anthony and Linda are father and daughter exterminators. Or are they??.At the age of 25 Linda is about to find out who her father really is. This is a parallel story told from both Antony’s and Linda’s perspectives.
Anthony calls himself an actor who studies people and their lives , he then disposes of them and takes over their existence and their occupations. Anthony is a product of a cruel father and an absent mother.
Linda has been brought by her single father with love. He has been playing the part of an exterminator for the last 25 years. This is a grizzly tale not for the feint hearted.
